By the way, Emily's Far Reach can snap on to the clockwork soldier's legs and upper body, allowing you to perform a drop assassination without you having to be above it. Also, there is a master crafted upgrade that allows you to deal "sword damage" against clockworks and also enables you to instantly kill the clockwork if you strike at his legs while undetected.

Another tip you did not mention is to use the Crossbow upgraded with Hardened Crossbow Bolts. These are able to in one shot to head knock of their head and take out their visions, basically acting like a first drop assassination. You can also use a Stun Mine upgraded for multiple charges. Best thing is these methods also work for a Ghost/Stealth run, while the standard drop assasssination combo will get you detected.

GamerDares wins depends how you do it you could sneak up on them and you won't but if you're doing low chaos your better off avoiding them I did a full low chaos playthrough and I just avoided them

Corvo and Emily clockwork assassinations animations are différents, so there is a total of 8 animations.Note that the sword upgrade comes late in the game so you ll not be able to use it in the clockwork mansion.
Btw, when their arms and head fall off, they start emitting a discharge, regardless of where they are, but will die to pistol charges. However, they will not move at all.
I find a double charge stun mine stuck on them very effective as it gives you enough time to knock the back panel off and hit the tank as long as you swing before the short lived over heat cools down as the cool down only lasts a few seconds with both charges
Never really had any issues with them (spamming grenades, targeting whale oil in arms, etc), but one interesting thing I found was that on mission 9 (spoilers), when you have to get the elevator back online by filling a can with whale oil to then power the elevator, you can use the dispensers of cans/oil to make a ton of whale oil cans to throw at the clockwork soldiers upstairs. It's super cheesy, but satisfying. I learned a good deal from this video though, thanks for making this.
To all those advocating stun mines: Springrazors work just as well, and can also be upgraded for an additional charge so it takes only one to kill a clockwork.
If your planning on using a re wiring machine on it be extremly careful since if your trying to go for a certain run these things will go after everything and I mean everything including civilians or servants.i learned the hard way when I was in the dukes mansion and I re wired one of them and the soldier instantly started to go after both the guard and the servants which shocked me because I thought they would only go after the guards but nope they don't discriminate.
On my first playthrough of the game, i just spammed time stop and either ran past them or it i needed to do something in the room with the soldiers, i would shoot 2 shots at their head to disable them and just sneak around, this will probably save me a lot of trouble on my Emily run though, thank you!
FYI, before I knew had to do any of these things I rewired the first light wall and had the first 3 chase me in, killing them instantly. I then had the dormant one in the hall do the same and, when rescuing Solokov, 2 more appear at the entrance I dispatched them the same as well. After that the Wall went out, but that was 6 Clockwork deaths with little to no damage on me. Not as fun but very effective.
AWESOME AND TOO EASY TRICK: use corvo's blink and the abillity to stop time while not moving while using blink, then look up and teleport so you can you drop assassinate 2 times and BOOM then its done!
I believe a single charged strike to the head knocks off the armor and the whale oil canister. I know for a fact a single crossbow bolt does the job, as that's how I dealt with most of them. 2 quick shots to the back plate with a pistol is also a real nice way to get rid of em. One for the armor, one for the canister. 1 crossbow bolt will not take out the canister on armor on the back though, you have to use 2.
I use blink and teleport by looking above their head. Its especially easy if there is a ceiling. Look at the ceiling with blink, and aim with that blue indicator thing. Then you can drop attack them after you teleport.
Just hold down your block button and attack the arms when it's overheated and cooling down. Works like a charm. Or just knock the head out with an air assassination and far reach/blink away. As long as you're crouched, you're golden. Can confirm that these tactics are perfectly useful in Very Hard
Yeah, I just said "screw that" when I played through that mission and played with stunt mines, granades, sticky granades and stop time ability. It was fun^^
I remember the first time I fought those mechanical devils. I was legit scared for my life, and would resort to hit-and-run techniques, preferring to retreat while I continued to pound damage on them. The minute I realized how to kill them, they suddenly began infinitely less scary. :P
the best way is, if you have excess bolts, just shoot a bolt to their visiory sensors twice and that'll get them blind too. The first one will knock the helmet off, and second one will actually destroy the visiory sensor.
Important to note: Clockwork Soldiers will not emit an electrical discharge if eliminated via drop assassination or stun mine. A useful stealthy approach is to drop assassinate, creep away, then drop assassinate again.
CopingFawn except that drop assassinations will alert him, as seen by the gameplay stats. It's best to knock the head off at a distance or lure him into traps.
Drop assassinations only alert them if you make a sound afterward (which he did in the video). If you crouch before taking a single step (which he didn't) then you will remain undetected. I used this method a total of seven times during my ghost playthrough and I was never detected.
I was soo scared b4 I got stuck in a room & forced to fight it out. My technique was > 1 crossbow to the head, then power stab each shoulder 2 times. it blows up.

i found sometimes during combat block their attack, jump, look down and strike it will count as a drop assassination and will instant kill them
