not if you slide the first room with a lever, and behind the walls to the right, go all the way down the hallway and reconfigure the room from behind the walls on top of the pool table, and then get rid of the tesla thingy in the big glass room, knock out the one person in the room, and use the elevator. everything should be smooth sailing from there, you just have to make sure from that point that you don’t get spotted or whatever.
@@ethanbaileylol2283 Exactly. Choke out Jindosh and put him somewhere safe, rewire the clockworks and they explode all by themselves. Fetch Jindosh and put him in the chair.

I managed Jindosh's mansion, clean hands, ghostly and on hard. The soldiers weren´t THAT hard to avoid actually. Only the one in Jindosh´s lab. fucked me while i tried to do the alternate non-lethal method for Jindosh.
The best way to get the Silence Achievement or at least the best way I've found is playing as Corvo(or as Emily in new game plus) then in the first room with the lever don't activate it instead shot the glass on the roof and sneak behind the walls then open a window and use possession to control a guard then go down the elevator go on top of the glass where Sokolov is being held and switch to the guard leaning of the balcony wall through the wall of light and go up the elevator and Eliminate Jindosh whatever way you want.
Late reply but, why necessarily new game + for Emily? I'm on my first playthrough right now as Emily and made my way through simply strangling & hiding the unavoidables. It was tricky but very satisfying to pull off.
+Mimikyu he's saying the easy way by using possession to basically skip some parts and possession is one of corvo's skills, but in NG+ she will get corvo's skills as well
If you get the clockwork soldier masterwork upgrade for your sword you can stealth kill from behind. Super useful if you have the right bonecharms and the right upgrades on the Time power. You can take out a whole room of clockworks very quickly, with no detections. For those trying to get Jindosh out of his little office square without alerting his clockworks, just possess him. You can get him in the elevator, knock him out, and stupid-ify him fairly quickly.
@@shams7037 It's a masterwork blueprint (the gold ones) and I believe it's called "Monkey Wrench" and you can access it late game for fun on your second playthrough
I found the easiest way is to get rid of them is the rewire tool. On one of their legs is a small "pocket" you can hack (You can see it in the video, even highlighted by text for a short moment). After that their friendly guys and you can rescue Sokolov without problems. You just have to be very quick to attach it, or attach it if they "sleep".
Yup, shock mines work great, maybe too great. Fully upgraded along with x4 bonecharm for increased shock area makes it seriously overpowered. You can easily knock out a room of troops and destroy all clockwork soldiers in the room with just 1 mine.
Get the bonecharm crafting power, cost 2 runes, totally worth it. Then crush all your existing bonecharms. When bonecrafting, you can assign up to x4 qualities to a single bonecharm. If you assign the same quality, you make it much more powerful, or add up to 4 different qualities to save space. Make sure to do a quick save before you attempt to make a new bonecharm just in case it becomes corrupted. You can reload and try again until you got a good one.
I always love it when a tutorial video gets straight to the point rather than spending 90% of the video blabbering on about stuff you don't care about.
If you get the upgrade which allows you to hurt robots with your sword you can just stealth kill them as any NPC you must be fast though to avoid detection or attack from the side, also make SURE you have the attack prompt on the side of the screen otherwise it will count as a normal attack, you will just hit normally the clockwork soldier and it will detect you. Also get the upgrade for both mines that allow multiple activations you can go up to three activations for the shock mine ( so you can potentially eliminate three clockwork soldiers with two mines, though I cant' think of a place in the game where there is up to three clockwork soldiers) and two for the blade one.
dude you saved my ghostly run. i was hiding under the table in the entry room with sokolov and there were three camping me, so i stun mined one to death, shot the head off another, then shot a bolt near the headless one so the other would go check it out, and in their fight the headless one died while taking off the head of the other, so i was able to sneak past it and escape. you're a homie
I'm doing no-kill and no-detection with Emily ; I just bring them on the lower part of the room (the lager room with balcony and Jindosh on the top), then destroy the head of one of the clockwork soldier with the crossbow. At this point it'll attack, and if you're lucky they're going to kill each other. Try to stay hidden meanwhile (not that easy, I used a lot of the blink). After that it's easy to blink to the balcony and neutralize Jindosh. (Sorry for my English :D)
Little tip, if its just nonlethal youre going for here, hitting them once or twice with a sword enables them to get knocked out by hand when their health gets low enough
There's a way to upgrade your sword with gold blueprints where you do more damage to clockwork soldiers (or witches, it's your choice) and it allows you to assassinate them silently just like any other enemy
A thing to add is that if u drop assassinate it with its head on, I found that it often detects me afterwards straight away. Don't know if this relates to it hitting u but often it doesn't hit me but still counts as a detection.
Yes, I've found that a drop assassination with the head on always registers a detection. Probably because the clockwork is still alive and therefore knows that you're right there.
Soulstealer56 I found that if I crouched and moved away immediately after the air assassination (at least on the sleeping ones) It would not detect me. I mostly just stuck stun mines on them or near them to kill them, seemed to only need one for me on very hard
I don't remember exactly but I think I used to do double air assassinations(so when I do the first one and remove some of its parts, I immediately do the empowered jump, following up with another drop assassination)
Great video but just to add; after you shoot the head off you can go behind it and perform an assassination, doesn’t count as a detection. Maybe this wasn’t in the game at the time or you weren’t aware but you don’t have to wack the back plate off in order to stealth deathblow them
Thanks for the video! I picked this up over the holiday break and wanted to do a non-lethal, stealth run and was having no trouble until the clockwerk soldiers. Now I kill them all with my sword
you can also use a grenade and sneak behind something after throwing it, that usually takes off the head. Really useful for the last 3 bots since they all attack each other.
Another way to kill them without losing stealth is using Corvos stop time ability and destroy the backplate and main oiltank. If you do it before time starts again the Clockwork won´t detect you.
You know you can use a rewire tool on them too ? They become friendly and if they don't get discovered by any enemy they destroy themselves after few seconds.
I remember first time I was going to let Jindosh live, but before I could teleport to him I tried to silence the robots beside him by shooting off their head, and they just went berserk on Jindosh and killed him
I don't know if it's worse to oppose a clockwork soldier or to rely on it for protection. One malfunction and you're dead. Worse yet, they're less than careful with their blades, so even standing too close to one could easily spell death
My preferred strategy is attaching a stun mine to a bottle or glass (or a piece of fish) and throwing it at them from above or behind cover. If you have the stun mine upgraded to have multiple charges, you can even take one out with a single mine because it’ll shock them twice. You can also just walk around with the mine attached to a throwable object and it’ll automatically zap anyone you encounter before they can even detect you if you manage to get within a few feet of them first. It’s like an improvised stun gun/stun grenade.
Easiest way is to use stun mine with 3x use upgrade. just put it on a bottle and throw it towards clockworks or enemies. Best strategy when a group of enemies keep sticking together without leaving.(hypasia mission and duke abele mission)
Thank you, I was playing it last night and it totally freaked me out. I did not really know what I should do and then I fought one and killed me really fast 😅
I know this video is nearly two and a half years old but one note to make is I'm pretty sure even without the hardened crossbow bolts upgrade you can take a head off with a really well placed shot from behind into like, the "stem" that holds the head up.
Corie Fegel or you could've not pulled the lever, shot the glass on the roof, get through the level with jindosh knowing you're there, all you gotta worry about is one clock work machine in his room, the other one should be not activated
I was able to drop kill these guys so much, it’s just the best and most fun way to deal with them. Honestly it’s the reason I never understood why people acted like they were such a difficult enemy.
with the clockwork soldier's head off, you can just sneak directly to it's right SIDE leg (where it's possible to rewire its panel) and the game shows you that you can assassinate it by showing the attack button graphic. then ince you press it, it goes through the assassinate animation.
1 year late. that is ability for the Monkey Wrench upgrade, you can actually do a assassination with their head on if you manage to sneak up to them undetected. you are able to take them out from all angle's too
OMG That last kill... lmao I wish I'd thought to try that. I'm just doing this mission now, really hating the mansion in general but wanted to do a blind run. I'm planning on stopping time when I get to the boss (i went up once by accident already lol) and re-wiring his bots while they're frozen to see how he reacts, since he seems to comment on everything you do (plus only seems fitting to kill him with his own machine).
i used slow time with the stop time ability to take out multiple at once and there easily avoidable so of the many clockworks in the house just dont agro em. you can also take em out by getting close and putting rewire kits inside em so they wont attack/detect you.
To remind everyone that if your far enough from a clockwork soldier it won't detect you when you shoot it's head off with a bolt but I can see how that's hard to do with the first clockwork soldier but I usually pass that clockwork soldier In the beginning lol
You missed my favourite way to take care of them, which is with makeshift grenades- stick a springrazor or shock mine to a bottle and throw it at the thing. Exactly the same as the shock mine tip you showed, but much more versatile
Yes, did miss that one! Thanks for mentioning it. It's a really good idea. (Someone else mentioned it a while back and I made a follow-up video about it.)
I never used grenades or the pistol in the first game because I wanted to play stealth and I always thought it was annoying having all those cool weapons and not being able to use them. But in this game at least I can use grenades and the pistol without being detected as long as there is no one close and the npc dies from one shot/grenade so I'm not detected, and you can do this amazingly close to other enemies (at least much closer than I would have thought). So one arrow to remove the head and then throw a sticky or regular grenade and the clockwork is done.
Idk if this has been put here before but I find that without the hardened crossbolts you could still knock the head off with one shot by aiming for the back of the head
I can suggest my approach of that you break the head off the clockwork soldier, and use the rewrite tool on its leg. This will cause the clockwork soldier not to become ally towards you (Because no head), but will make it to die on itself after some time.
0.0 I never tried drop assassinations because I assumed it just wouldn't work on these guys... This makes things trivial for me, jumping on ppl is my tried and true method.
The easiest way for me at least is similar to yours. I shoot the head off and then focus strike the back panel and immediately back away in stealth mode and then focus strike again on the whale oil canister in its back.
I also found hiding under the table by the main entrance allows you to peep out, shoot the arms off and hide back under the table quickly. The clockwork soldier can't detect you while you're under the table. Not sure if it works with other tables. Also if you go behind the walls, you can open windows, shoot them when they're not looking and instantly hide from their sight.
Also you can kill jindosh when you first meet him if your Emily you need domino and decoy abilities you can link jndosh to your decoy then kill the decoy
You can still evade clockworks easily just like you said with the crossbow, but you don't nessecarily need the upgrade. two shots to the clockworks's head is enough to stop it and it will rely on very close audio cues. so basically don't run near them. easy as that
I swear one time I did like a one-hit stealth kill on one during the Jindosh level, having to do with the panel on its chest. Haven't been able to replicate it since.
I have just finished the game with ghostly and shadow achivements on every mission. It is quite a lot of fun to use the power of time stop and then sneak behind a clock soldier, pierce it back with a sword and shot a small white fuel tank under its armor with pistol (it is its power source, so it instantly dies). A lot of fun, enjoy :)
killing clockwork soldiers does not count as a kill. but if they notice you it counts as a detection. i have gotten the clean hands achievement and shadow achievements. and the easiest way to kill them ( in my opinion) is to drop on them and jam your sword in them. it doesn't waste stun mines :D
This made me laugh! The things you can do to it is hilarious. thank you. Very helpful dude, thought these guys were a lot tougher than the ordanary enemies but it turns out they're stupidly easy! Lol with the Dishonored games, I always go stealth and currently with 2, going non lethal. when I rescued Anton, I thought it was intense being closed in with that Clockwork.
HOWEVER keep in mind if you forget and leave a headless Clockwork just standing around it will kill ANYONE who it detects including servants and guards potentially spoiling a non-lethal game.

So one arrow to remove the head and then throw a sticky or regular grenade and the clockwork is done.
sidebar...i also once managed to rewire one with one of those tools to fight on my side...never managed to replicate it tho!
thanks for this!
There's a rewire panel on one of the legs. You might need to crouch to access it.
This is a very helpful video, good jambalaya
Idk if this has been put here before but I find that without the hardened crossbolts you could still knock the head off with one shot by aiming for the back of the head
It's always funny watching the Clockwork Soldiers fight/kill the NPCs in this game.😅
As Corvo, I just sneak in to it's blindspot for 1 hit kill when prompted.
The bigger piece of advice is the stats page to see if it was stealthy or not!
I always ended up trying to do the drop attack only to find out if the head is still attached that it takes 2 drop attacks to finish one of them lol
An easy way to tell if you triggered a detection is the harp(?) noise that plays.
_Hardened bolts_ ! Damn!! I didn't buy those before I entered the mansion... Guess I'll have to waste all my other weapons resources now...
I can suggest my approach of that you break the head off the clockwork soldier, and use the rewrite tool on its leg. This will cause the clockwork soldier not to become ally towards you (Because no head), but will make it to die on itself after some time.
I didn't know you could destroy their heads so easily! Thanks for the tip
Imagine how many times his screen had to reload to make this video
you can also invest in bend time till the point where you can stop it allowing to kill it effortlessly.
Crossbow bolt to the head, jump assassination to finish them off (can use blink or agility for good effect)
Just got back into the game and this is great study material
Use the Monkey Wrench Master upgrade plan for the sword. Sneak up on the side and you can one-shot assassinate the Clockwork like any other enemy
Pro tip: don’t interface with them at all if you’re trying to be stealthy. Just sneak around and use the high road above their line of sight.
You can still evade clockworks easily just like you said with the crossbow, but you don't nessecarily need the upgrade. two shots to the clockworks's head is enough to stop it and it will rely on very close audio cues. so basically don't run near them. easy as that
what is with its weakspot metioned in the game itself? this little plate on the front wich you can pull off?
Chris Marthini Not the one on the right leg but on its right chest.
Julian Themann No, that's a little number plate you can pick up when the CS is destroyed.
Nova Solarius Yeah noticed that lately. there is even an Achievment for that
Julian Themann There is, yes. Wound up figuring that out by getting it. Would've preferred more coin though.
if you have not found your answer you can knock off their back plate and it reveals a little white tube that if you stab it destroys the robot
And that, is how you correctly AND safely, eat a crab.
I swear one time I did like a one-hit stealth kill on one during the Jindosh level, having to do with the panel on its chest. Haven't been able to replicate it since.
It's also important to know that killing clockwork soldiers don't actually count as a kill
Just subbed, thanks for the awesome video, just got the game and was wondering about these enemies, they seem, difficult, haha. 😅
You're welcome! It's a fantastic game.
thanks. was struggling with that
you could also get monkey wrench upgrade that let's you stealth kill clockworks but doesn't tell you
I have just finished the game with ghostly and shadow achivements on every mission. It is quite a lot of fun to use the power of time stop and then sneak behind a clock soldier, pierce it back with a sword and shot a small white fuel tank under its armor with pistol (it is its power source, so it instantly dies). A lot of fun, enjoy :)
Thanks for the tips, mate. Helped a lot.
brilliant tips, hope i can get a few to work
killing clockwork soldiers does not count as a kill. but if they notice you it counts as a detection. i have gotten the clean hands achievement and shadow achievements. and the easiest way to kill them ( in my opinion) is to drop on them and jam your sword in them. it doesn't waste stun mines :D
This made me laugh! The things you can do to it is hilarious.
thank you. Very helpful dude, thought these guys were a lot tougher than the ordanary enemies but it turns out they're stupidly easy! Lol
with the Dishonored games, I always go stealth and currently with 2, going non lethal. when I rescued Anton, I thought it was intense being closed in with that Clockwork.
If you get the monkey wrench upgrade to your sword in the shop you can just straight up kill them in stealth mode
True, although IIRC you can't get that upgrade until quite late in the game.
HOWEVER keep in mind if you forget and leave a headless Clockwork just standing around it will kill ANYONE who it detects including servants and guards potentially spoiling a non-lethal game.
Great guide! Thanks, this helped a lot :)
They notice me when I try to sneak, had to toss grenades at em.
This was such an awesome mission
