In 2019, after 35 years of playing guitar, chemotherapy left me with nerve damage and I couldn't play for about 6 months. This would be perfect for people in that situation. I am mostly back to being able to play what I could before chemotherapy, but I might still enjoy this!

This machine is nothing more than a simple chord generator inside a ONE OCTAVE keyboard (it's basically a 500$+ toy for pretending to be a musician). With that money you could buy a better keyboard, get a DAW license, and get some course on harmony. (and you would probably still have some left)
The Harmonaig by Instruo does this, and is really good at it, but it's modular. TBH I'm pretty sure it's not terribly hard to cycle through voicings in both Elektron (I know my syntakt can do it) and the Polyend Play. But I share your observation that, in the main, it seems to be overlooked or undervalued by manufacturers.

I feel the 2020s is a golden era for retro gear. Everything feels so toy like. Like you want to play with it. It really stands out. My favorite retro style was actually from alien in 1979. The nostromo was designed by the same team as the millennium falcon. But you will notice that on the ship a lot of swiss industrial design was in place. A dipping bird on the dining table. Plastic containers for the cereal. Stackable plastic coffee cups. Look into alien isolation, and you will see. Everything is very tactile.

When i first saw this in the reveals, i initially questioned its utility beyond just the idea stage (like all chord machines) and wondered how ya'll would spice it up! Pleasantly surprised, this looks really cool and a lot of new ideas on the table! So many different ways to use it not just as a writing tool but an actual instrument!

Idk seems like that all the functions are either integrated in your daws piano roll or in some midi controlling vst. Also if the price point would be over 500 bucks a piece you could get a Maschine mk3 as an midi controller which even offers knobs and a multitude of features.
Yeah but this is a hardware synth not a midi controller. The idea is to not use your computer. If you're happy with just using your daw that just means this product isn't for you sorry
I had the same reaction. Like don’t get me wrong I’m all for building functionality into the hardware of an instrument and not needing to use your mouse and keyboard as much, but it doesn’t seem like this synth is actually doing anything that groundbreaking
Ah yes another idea machine. Everyone knows that all the primary dilemma facing modern musicians is an overabundance of gear/plugins, but a chronic dearth of ideas. Probably all great music has been created from this struggle, now that I think about it. Maybe if Vangelis had an omnichord instead of that big dumb thing with all the knobs and sliders, he wouldn’t have needed to waste all his time on “ideas” for the BR soundtrack. I think it’s good to make things that make ideas because it takes the pressure off of any idea-generation for the mechanism itself. Hopefully there will be a version 2 with a digital multi-fx algorithm and a sampler feature because those are essential to content creation - oops, I meant to say ‘music’

This product is a start of a very cool idea. It could have a 16pad beat pad on the left and a midi controller on the right with knobs ontop. the beatpad could store chords, arps and sequences, while the keyboard chooses the pitch.

The voicing wheel is genius. Playing with voicing is the achilles heel of most chord generators, this makes it super easy.
