  • We review Corsair's new 275R Mid-Tower case, following-up the predecessor Corsair 270R. The 275R is an $80 mid-tower case, with $70 for the acrylic option.

    Our review of the Corsair Carbide 275R enclosure looks at thermal performance, acoustics, and overall build quality. The case most immediately compares to Corsair's own 270R, SilverStone's RL06, and the now-dated NZXT S340. The Corsair 275R enclosure is an $80 case with tempered glass, or $70 for the acrylic version. The 270R is about $60, and often goes on sale for $50. That makes the 275R a tough sell, in theory, but we'll go over all of that in the review above.

    Just bought this case; Corsair corrected the issue with the Allen key screws - those are now standard thumbscrews which are used for glass panels; also the rubber grommets are now fixed to the case. The painting of the front panel is flawless and matches perfectly with the white of the rest of the case. To provide enough air-flow, I replaced the front fan with two Noctua static pressure PWM fans (one should never rely on the pre-installed ones). Overall, I was surprised in a very positive way by the excellent build quality and the cable-management opportunities - after seeing this video I almost did not order the case, but now I'm glad I bought it.

      Same here. Just replaced my 10 year old Antec 1200 full tower, for this one. Glad that I got it. I added 2x120mm fans to the front intake, and 2x120mm fans for exhaust on the top mount (So, 3 in and 3 out total). Very happy with cable management. Noise levels are much better than my Antec. My 8700k and GTX 1080 stay cool. I'm only using a Noctua NH-D9L heatsink for CPU. If I ever decide to overclock I'll look into an AIO cooler, but for now it does fine at stock.

    To play devil's advocate, you could put the case on it's side so the tempered glass is facing the ceiling. Then it won't fall off, the rubber pieces won't fall off, and you don't need a hook or anything. Then once you get the side panel off, you can stand it up normal. Not that big a deal if you do it that way.

They've since added thumbscrews that you can use in place of the allen screws (They don't sit almost flush like the allen screws, obv) and fixed the rubber grommet issue so they don't pop out and the glass doesn't fall anymore, just for those looking at this case in 2020. You are the first reviewer I have watched, that recognized publicly, the detriments of recirculating and by-pass air, when air is forced into and/or pulled out of an enclosed space by (a) fan(s) for temperature control. This fact is not overlooked in other industries. This errant air moved by a fan displaces an equal portion of, on the intake side, cool outside air drawn in, and on the exhaust side, warm interior air drawn out. The effective CFM of the fan is reduced! Is the installation of more/larger fans and or a larger radiator the optimum choice?
    On another channel, the reviewer was confused why the particular AIO radiator he used, was not keeping CPU temps down as he expected. It was obvious to me. There were holes you could put your fist through, above and below the front radiator, and the front panel was somewhat restrictive as well. The result was massive recirculation with the intake air getting warmer and warmer.
    By-pass exhaust air drawn through openings on the back side around the exhaust fan(s), needlessly cools that area, rather than drawing out hotter air from the interior of the case!

    • @OTechnology
      @OTechnology 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yea it seems like most reviewers have no sense of how airflow works...

    • @Aereto
      @Aereto 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      O!Technology
      And then there is the open air cases. The non-blower cooler cards would excel at dissipating heat into the ambient air than ejecting exhaust to the rear. Though such cases should not be used in locations where air quality is less than comfortable, where dust and smoke particulates will impair effective surface area of radiators.

      Slightly off topic but I figured I would throw this out there as its highly unlikely that it would be seen in the sea of comments. Why hasn't GN reviewed any Phanteks cases(recently at least)? I watch Dmitri over at Hardware Canucks(he is nowhere even close to as in depth as you are) for most of my case reviews and it seems that anything he calls out critical, they fix before release. I've owned the Enthoo Pro and the P400, both cases were fantastic. I would bet that the majority of Phanteks cases would trump the garbage that Corsair has been putting out in the past few years...

    Two improvements of the side panel from your review:
    - They have glued the rubber grommets to the case (plus 1)

    A mention of what they still needed to do for the side panel glass:

    This is a great case, no matter the price. I use two be quiet! Silent Wings 3 120mm fans in the "top" to pull air into the case over the motherboard. I use a 240mm Cooler Master AIO on the "front" with two 120mm fans to blow the hot cpu air out. I sealed off the fan slot in the back. Nothing in the case gets over 40C except for the CPU under load. Most of the time, nothing gets over 35C. There is a reason why there is 6 fan slots; use them. This case sits on its "side" when in use. My only compliant is that the Corsair fans are noisy and why I replaced them. The longer power supply shroud makes for better aesthetics and can be had for under $60usd. Nexus, your thermal testing means nothing if a case is not fully populated with fans and making no mention of the noisy fans seems silly after spending over 6 minutes rambling about the tempered glass allen screws.

    I really appreciate your review of the lower budget cases. I've watched a lot of your videos and will continue to. Between LTT, Bitwit, and you, I have learned how to understand every component in a pc and install them myself. So yeah, first off. THANK YOU! This is my first Long comment on any of the channels and that is primarily because well.. I am honestly a gorilla. I have large Thumbs and index fingers and i understand their reasoning behind allen screws. Allen screws are actually easier to remove then any other, and just like you said, once everything is installed, its not comming off anytime soon. As for the rubber grommets, Simply don't remove the screws all the way. Unscrew them from the threads, then leave them in the panel. They will hold the gromets in place. For consumer ready aesthetics, which is almost as important as performance, those are the best ones that could have been used without going to some strange star, or torx bit. If you know(or knew) that the side panel was going to "Fall" when removing the screws then remove the top ones first. This comment is from a very beginner PC enthusiast that wants a Sleek, minimalist, easy to clean and maintain case that doesn't break the budget. also, the side panel cant be clipped by the feet or else they wouldn't be able to be mounted completely underneath. I am purchasing the Corsair Carbide 275R because of your brutally honest review so THANK YOU. Please don't get me wrong when i say i think your opinion is like a Ferarri mechanic working on a Honda. And this comment is for anyone else reading the comments, somewhat new to the scene, looking to upgrade from their windows case that they have been stuck with for the last few years.
    If anyone has another recommendation for a case that's similar, please let me know.
    I

    No understand why all the hardware channels attack this beautiful case in such a way!, the side glass mounting is awesome, I love the industrial look of the flat Allen screws, and the cleanliness of the frame less floating glass, for God sake, just assembly your system in horizontal position!!!, as most people do!, also no one seems to observe the most beautiful detail of this case, the very sexy Hi-Fi type feets, that was the selling point for me, they are not made in an awful cone shape like in Fractal, these ones are made in a cylindrical shape, and they are wide!, perfect, thanks Corsair!

    Just built a machine for a friend and I found it a really nice little case to build in for something semi-budget.
    No allen screws with the newer version, just large thumbscrews with rubber washers. There are also stand-offs that hold the panel in place on the new versions.
    I'm not that fond of the top dust filter but everything else I really liked for the price. (Oh, also the SSD tray wouldn't quite fit a Crucial MX500 SSD but no biggie, the HDD trays will accept an SSD screwed in. Literally no other problems!).

    I just ordered this case for my new build as I liked the look and the cable management along with the hard drive locations.From your review it would seem I made a bad decision.I hope not,I guess we'll see. I love how critical your reviews are always... no fluff, no sensationalizing, not much bias (if any?)... that being said, this comment/question is directed to @Gamers Nexus, but anyone can weigh in on how they think the (FINALLY) changing landscape of the CPU market will effect the game developers.
    What do u think will be happening in the game development world, regarding optimizing upcoming AAA titles (and hopefully more) for 6-cores and higher, now that they have hit the consumer desktop platforms in the form of coffee lake and ryzen?
    Developers have generally optimized games largely for 4-core machines in the past decade or so. That, combined with poor scaling for higher core/thread counts (with a few exceptions), translated into very diminishing returns for those who had opted in to the Intel's HEDT or X-series CPUs, and were using the machine predominantly for gaming.

    I just did a build in this case taking into account the very good info in this video. Found a couple pleasant surprises. They now have a studs that hold those rubbers pieces for the glass in place and as result also hold glass. Still use same screws for glass but found 4 thumb screws easy enough. Running i5 10400 with tower style cooler from deep cool, 1080ti and 6 120mm fans, 3 front and 2 top intake with back exahust, i seen pretty close to the numbers shown in video, 52c over ambient on my gpu and 46c over ambient on my cpu. My results were based of 5 runs of furmark gpu stress test and cpu burn for 1hour each run. Great aid when considering working with this case.

    FWIW I got this as part of a pre-build but I have significantly changed things. I have a 2600x cpu with the H110i platinum SE AIO cooler on it (chosen specifically because of the all white radiator, white housing and white blade fans - with rgb after all it is a gaming pc :) and white braided swivel mount hoses to match the case. The radiator would not fit up top because my RAM is just a few mm too tall. Initially it had Trident z RGB but now i have installed Trident -z Royal RGB (which is also too tall) on Asus x370 pro mobo . So the radiator had to be vertically mounted in the front (pull config drawing air in). I left the rear fan alone and took the stock fan from the front and placed it up top exhausting upward and also took the fan that was on the gammax 400 deeepcool cpu heatsink (140mm I believe ) and placed it up top as well. GPU is an Nvidia RTX 2070 Super Founders Edition mounted vertically. Temps seem to be okay but the fans do tend to ramp up adding some significant noise. Particularly the gpu fans as I have added a custom fan curve more aggressive than the Nvidia curve to try and make sure my gpu temps don't go above 78. Overall temps are okay - gpu a little warm, cpu stays nice and cool with the AIO . I think I am going to try placing the two top fan as intakes drawing air in and making a significant poaitove pressure case and see what that does but soon I plan on changin out the top two fans and the rear fan for the all white special edition LL120 3 rgb unit. I would say the build quality is good - all my paint matches and well lined up. I have the allen key version but have allen key bits in my pc tool kit that fit in my ratchet head so that is easy (although my dog somehow decided to run off with one when I was installing my AIO so I only have 3 screws holding my panel on atm. Aestheticall with the all white case, white AIO and the gammax fan is white with cool rgb custom lights the build really looks sharp.

      However if You need/want to open the case once it's been built (and possibly even while it's running) it's usually standing under a desk or some other "dedicated space" then it's quite likely not that easy/convenient. Especially if You don't want to be forced to disconnect all cables.
