      When I had a budget PC all i wanted was (at the time) a new PC and my case MUST have glass window so I could see the lighting coming off components. Finally build myself a new PC, it had everything I wanted. Turned it on, played with the RGB lights a bit. Turned lights off after an hour as I got bored of it.
      Build another PC and my only gripe with my current pc is that I can't turn off the RGB on my memory modules and the LED light that my PC is on (I typically know this because I can see stuff move on my monitor), because it's one big cable thing for the power switch/LED and so on (NZXT H710). I binned all other RGB stuff, never connected it lol. I do like looking inside my PC though.
      The only RGB I actually want is on my keyboard so I can see and colourcode everything. Even the RGB on my mouse is off.

      I will say, I went from LL to QL, and the LL have a higher rpm and slightly better static pressure spec wise. But for a case that's shooting for more rgb, they should of went with the QL. They are basically the same price retail as well.

    Just thought it'd be helpful to point out you don't actually need temperature probes if you're using a commander pro. In icue, you can choose which temperature source you want to use to control your fan speeds. I set a custom fan curve and I use my GPU temperature sensor #1 to read temps. There's a drop-down list that has every sensor in your build from motherboard to ram to GPU to CPU.

      If those covers that are rounded are not solid metal, be it aluminum or steel, it's a rip-off. But if it really is metal, then the price is okay. That Commander Pro is garbage, cause it requires a software running and the CPU is doing the work of reading sensors and feeding the fans with the PWM signal via the controller. It should be FULLY done independently via hardware, and a USB interface only to read out the sensors and resulting fan speeds. This can be done using $2 Arduino Nano... How do I know? Cause I actually did it.

    • @tobiasmaile5919
      @tobiasmaile5919 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      When you buy a Commander Pro it comes with 4 temp probes. Jay is mistaken here, calling this a Commander Pro when it really is a Commander Core. Only one spot for a heat probe on this bugger. So what Corsair is doing with this case is packing the outdated Core into a new pricey case to get rid of an outdated Commander unit. Most people will nowadays go for the Pro and Corsair most likely have a lot of stock of the Core version. Smart move marketing wise as the case does look slick but a bit of a downer really for that price.

    Yeah the multi logic in iCUE is awesome. I actually have a water probe and another temp probe outside the case, and I control the fanspeed for my radiator based on the delta of my water temp to the ambient temp. It's really nice because you don't notice the fans as much because it takes a while for the water to heat up so the fans just don't instantly ramp up from load.

      I have iCue and I haven't been able to find out how to do this? Is it just with the commander pro? In iCue when I go to set fan profiles I can only select one source for temperature.

    • @kyoudaiken
      @kyoudaiken 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do the same for $2 using an Arduino Nano and in addition to that, it is doing this autonomously without the software running. I can run my software to see the sensor readings, but the actual control is done on the Arduino itself. I don't get it why companies are doing it the way they do. It's probably still cheaper. But if your software crashes, the fans are not being controlled with new PWM values anymore and in worst case even stop spinning. Bad design.

    • @marc3793

    Still no case manufacturer has had the simple idea of doing hinges with different length pegs top and bottom. That way, when putting the door back on, you can locate the door on the longer hinge before locating it on the shorter hinge. It would make it easier and safer to handle delicate and/or heavy glass doors.
    Look at how tricky it was for Jay to put the door back on.

    The newest ICUE allows for temp setting to respond to specific components, the temp gauges are cool but they are kinda unnecessary due to the software's new options. I have the thermo probes installed, and I don't pay attention to them anymore since i can match any fan to any component, ie. top fans respond to gpu, or cpu, you can even pick individual bits on the motherboard if you want.

But my curve is unique to my set of components (3950x and RTX 3090 Strix OC), fans (six Noctua NF-Ax25), radiators (EK 480x60mm and 240x60mm), etc, and won't necessarily translate for different combinations. You don't need a probe to controls fans to work with GPU temps... You can literally configure your chassis fans to run off the GPU instead of the CPU in most bios's... Pretty sure iCUE, Argus Monitor and other software offer that feature as well.

    • @kyoudaiken

Even then I'm pretty sure you can assign a fan curve to VRM temps with Argus monitor. Just a poor explanation imo.

    Just a heads up for people confused about the iCue multi-logic fan curves Jay mentioned.
    You can only use multiple sensors for multi-logic fan curves on the Commander Core XT (comes included in this case and can be bought separately for any case you like). There is no "use this fan curve if the CPU is (a) temp but if the PROBE is (b) temp do this" Multi-logic on the older devices (commander pros and AIOs etc..).
    I guess with older devices if you wanted to use the temp alert section you could set it to run all the fans at 100% (and only 100%) if a temp is detected on a particular sensor, but that's not really a great solution.
    It would be cool if they updated the older commander's firmware to allow this but it might not be possible so I wouldn't hold my breath.

    Re: the temp sensor, you can use polyimide tape (which you'll commonly see inside laptops) for placing the sensor in a location near the gpu chip (such as on the backside of the board, where the chip is located) and get an indirect read of the temp of the gpu chip. There will be a delay and difference in temp as it takes time for the heat to transfer from the gpu into the board. Another method is to use a temp sensor in the coolant loop. Then base fan speed on the coolant temp. This though doesn't control the flow based on the gpu activity directly.

    Just FYI jay, you don't actually need to use temp probes to monitor your GPU temp with iCUE, they should actually be used for monitoring case air temps (or water temps!). I have 2 commander pros in my 1000D (the one it came with plus another i bought), and i have inlet and outlet air temps monitored, as well as 3 different temp probes in my water loop at different points monitoring water temps. The iCUE software can monitor off of GPU temp internally, so my fans are actually set to ramp up on one of my 2 front rads, and my top rad, when the GPU is under heavier load, and then the second bank of front fans also ramp up if the CPU is also hot enough, along with the rear fans for extra flow over the board
