A lot of umpires will give the hitter that's upset a chance (or more) to walk away, but Narvaez kept at him, though he absolutely has a point. That pitch was about 2 1/2 inches of the plate

The leash is usually proportional to how wrong the umpire is. That one wasn't even in the "expand your strike zone with 2 strikes" range for the hitter. That's a spot where a base coach should run in to protect the player.

I'm an umpire. I love how you educate fans about the rules. But in this video and more and more many others you are an apologist for umpires. Why mention they are a combined 0-8 at the end -- to suggest they were arguing only because they were frustrated to be losing? Why do you complain about the camera angle -- to suggest he maybe did go around? What do you expect the guy to do, top of the 9th, down by one, get's called out on a pitch "not even close"? Your videos are great analysis, but you are winning the battle but losing the war (including to Jomboy): more and more fans hate us umpires, think there is no accountability (except losing the playoff games), think we don't know what we are doing, and want us replaced with machines.

I don’t think it is ridiculous to suggest that there is no accountability for umpires. Can anyone seriously say that losing playoff games is an equal punishment to what a player would experience if he was equally bad at his job? One gets fired, the other misses a few games and has his job back next year.

    • @tysonh424

Umpires have less on the line with the call made. I mean, look at Angel Hernandez. He'd be selling insurance if he was playing and as bad instead of umpiring. Yet, he's still umpiring at the highest level.
I do not want to see robo umps, but I would like to have some calls be verifiable, especially ones that can clearly be seen by replay. I'd also like more calls to have a chance to be over turned by the crew. No system will be perfect, but this one can definitely be improved. I mean, there's what, 6 umpires on the field and we seem to be getting worse?

Arenado went around. It’s a judgment call, so no amount of camera angles is going to make the call “wrong” objectively. Arenado has been playing long enough to know that his wrists breaking (what it looked like he was complaining about when he got tossed) has absolutely nothing to do with it. When you make a half swing, even if you attempt to pull back, you are risking a strike. And he got an extremely long leash to argue a call that wasn’t even wrong.

Been watching your videos for a few months now. You are a total umpire apologist. You are obviously not a fan of the players or managers. When a player or manager (or even an announcer) is wrong, you go to your little highlighted rule book and explain in painful detail why they are wrong. When an umpire screws up (which you rarely show, by the way), your explanation is never "that umpire is having a really bad night and totally blew that call" but rather something weak like "well if they would just use the tech we recommend they would get the call right." Yes, players and managers are often wrong about calls and argue when they shouldn't. But umpires are wrong just as often, yet you never seem to have time to post those videos and present a fair criticism of the umpires. And then in this game when De Jesus has a really inconsistent night behind the plate, you throw in some totally unnecessary smartass comment like "Arenado and Narvaez were a combined 0-8 on the night" as if to say their frustration with this crew was entirely because they had a bad night at the plate. Now moving on to another channel with a more complete analysis of controversial calls and ejections.......not just those in which the umpires are always the good guys and the players & managers are always the bad guys.

One reason I think channels like Jomboy are "winning the war" is comparatively few people care about the "why behind the what" of these calls, they just like to stick at the "that was absolutely horrible!" and "the Jomboy video justifies my anger" level and leave it at that (and Jomboy's approach is to feed that 'the umps suck' mentality)
I've commented on numerous Jomboy videos with links to the CCS video of the same play to no avail. Jomboy has even admitted in some videos he doesn't know the rule but then bashes the call that was 100% textbook accurate. [like a dribbler down the 3B line that is rolling back fair, swiped away by pitcher, but called fair because half the ball was over the line...Jomboy saying "was any of the ball touching the line? waaay too hard to see" when the rule is "on or over the line"]
I saw a different video of this ejection from MLB's website that showed both check swings from the side angle and on the second one Jim Edmonds saying "oh my gosh that's worse than the first one!" and the funny thing is in the second check swing Nolan goes even further around, so yes "worse [hold up] than the first one."

@@tysonh424 Tyson I'm not here to argue with you but he is arguing balls and strikes. He was given his say when the original call occured. He came back out and continued to argue. He simply didn't stop and Porter tossed him. The RULE states you can't argue balls and strikes. I understand you think it is a bad call ( judgement) and that is fair but at some point he needs to stop. In this case he didn't and Porter got him.
