Horrendous performance, as expected of Schiff on any baroque repertoire. His limp, sanitized, and overvoiced "pianism" even manages to underplay the damned tone clusters in the left hand! No tension, no excitement, just four minutes of emasculated, elevator-worthy piano noodling. Great job on the score video though

Sadly, I have to agree with you about this recording. Also, I have yet to find a recording on the piano of this piece which does it justice...

@@Vitali_Osandor Tall order with the twisted Muzak-like understanding of baroque keyboard repertoire that virtually every pianist is brought up with. One need only hear any of the more extroverted sonatas played by a decent harpsichordist to realize it has nothing to do with the sterile, feeble & creatively bankrupt manner pianists play Scarlatti. Where is the rhetorical phrasing? Nothing more than a couple rolled chords in the first few bars and measly mordents on the repeats? No diminutions? No dislocation? No inegalité? Reeks of lazy score-drone approach. Enrico Baiano on this same sonata does things the pianist would deem unfathomable and heretical, and boy does he succeed resoundingly at bringing out all the colors in it.
For pianists that are at the very least not scared of the occasional ornament, or going louder than mezzoforte, there's Michael Korstick and Lucas Debargue, the former of which actually manages to throw some real punch into his playing. Neither recorded this particular sonata, sadly.

limp? don't hear that compared to many 'specialists' who are HIP-bound but unimaginative

Wow, to dismiss a great artist's performance as horrendous, slapping on a score of derogatory adjectives, just because you don't like it. What a high and mighty critic you are !

This sounds quite lame and lackluster, especially when compared to recordings on harpsichord.
