I'd also like to point out just how incredibly detailed the land is. Discourse always swirls around how outdated the land feels, but it rarely gets the credit it deserves as a well realized love letter to these properties. More people need to take time out of their day and walk through Sweethaven, exploring the ship, looking for gags and jokes along the lagoon and just listening to the sea shanties, which in my opinion, might be one of the most under-rated park soundtracks.
100% agree, while the properties may not be guests favorites it shouldn't take away from how well executed the land itself is! Relaxing down by the lagoon and just taking in the sights is one of the best parts of any day at IOA. Also love your channel man, appreciate you watching!
There is NO problem with this land. For nerds like me, I enjoy spotting all the obscure characters. For the general public, the theming is too notch enough to allow them to enjoy the experience, even if they're unfamiliar with the source material. Seuss Landing and Marvel SHI do this well also. My fear of seeing too many video essays with similar titles is that Universal won't watch them and come away with the wrong message. This area doesn't need a replacement. It just needs normal refurbishment.
I feel like replacing this area would be a bit unnecessary and a mistake since it’s one of the big areas in the park that sadly doesn’t get enough credit. Ofc most characters in that area are not that well known and most people don’t know who they are but most characters like rocky and bullwinkle, Popeye, Betty boop, etc. are still Iconic and able to notice. I just love the details on the park and it’s 2 rides Dudley do right and Popeyes. I do agree on putting modern cartoon characters in the park as a small retheme instead of retheming the entire section. But the best part about outdated characters is that most generations can learn about them since it’s history, They already replaced most of lost continent so losing toon lagoon aswell would be devastating. One thing is they do need to do something about that abandoned theater and put a new show in there or something.
honestly, I'd support Universal if they wanted to replace this land with a Nickelodeon world or something, but I still have a lot of love and respect for this land, for a few reasons: 1. The attention to detail in the theming: this land is filled with hilarious and fun gags that allow guests to have fun and play along with cartoon anarchy. 2. The IPs it's based off of may be a little dated, but they're an important our history: As an animation fan, I try to show respect to all generations of the medium, and while I may have not have grown up with most of the sources used for Toon Lagoon, I've grown to love a lot of them and know they play a huge role in both the cartoon and comic industy. Jay Ward's shows had a clever tongue and cheek sense of humor that inspired shows like The Simpsons. Popeye had amazing energy and timing. And Betty Boop was one of the first female cartoon characters with layers. And this land is the only place in the resort that provides them with a home, and you can tell the people behind it were fans. Both Dudley Do-Right and Popeye's rides understand the worlds and sense of humor of the series that their based on, especially Dudley with it's use of visual humor. And while I haven't seen that stage show, it looks like a fun little crossover that understands the sense of humor of all the shows used. So, if they did close it, my thoughts would be similar to my thoughts of Mickey's Runaway Railway replacing Great Movie Ride. I love the Paul Rudish Mickey Mouse Show, and I love the ride, with it's cartoon hijinx, it's amazing effects, and catchy song, but it's a shame that we had to say goodbye to such a wonderful tribute to cinema for it to exist. Especially when most of the films used are still being talked about to this day. But, I'm aware it's a theme park. They need to think about what is and isn't getting attention.
Toon Lagoon could add like a Garfield store, and it would fit right at home, and make the land more relevant. The characters all have so much history that removing them would be a crime.
I’m surprised Universal hasn’t considered retheming Toon Lagoon with Cartoon Network characters, considering they have a healthy relationship with WB compared to Paramount thanks to Harry Potter, plus CN has more shows they are more focused on compared to Nick, who only care about SpongeBob these days.
Sometimes I wonder what an alternate universe where The Funtastic World of Hanna Barbara got replaced with a Cartoon Network ride instead of a Nickelodeon ride. Not only would that parallel Cartoon Network move to more original content on television, while Yogi Bear and Fred Flintstone find a new home on Boomerang, but it would be an easier ride to update when the shows used go out of date. say what you will about the many faults Cartoon Network has, but at least they're willing to make new shows in comparison to Nickelodeon who tend to rely on SpongeBob too much, which I think was at least one of the reasons it closed to make way for Despicable Me. There just weren't enough popular shows currently airing to base the ride on in the early 2010s. With Cartoon Network, the first five years could be about adventuring with Dexter through Townsville, the Middle of Nowhere, and Ed, Edd, n Eddy's Neighborhood. Then they could update it with an adventure with Kids Next Door through the worlds of Samarai Jack, Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, and Grim Adventures. Next an adventure with Finn and Jake through the worlds of Regular Show, Gumball, and Steven Universe. Of course, in this universe the ride will probably close when David Zaslav is put in charge and puts Cartoon Network on life support, but I can dream, right? Just like how I can dream of a Treehouse of Horror refurb of The Simpsons Ride for Halloween Horror Night that's never gonna happen now thanks to Disney. 🙎♂️
@@kylemorello4787 of course in that Universe considering how Adult Swim is slowly taking control of CN we might have Rick and Morty travel through the worlds of Aqua Teen, Smiling Friends, and Pibby.
Literally working on a Rick and Morty attraction (It's a pitch) Start off like a Star Tour motion simulator and ends up in a rollercoaster sequence and let's you out in the middle of a gift shop. "It's a simulator Morty!"
I didn’t believe it when you said this was your first video… Great job! This was incredibly interesting to watch and you have a strong presentation style! Keep making videos like this!
Eventually when Universal has the time to get to Toon Lagoon it’s going to be so long from now it’d be funny if they just never do anything to it. Long live Toon Lagoon.
I absolutely love the land. While I’ve never been the biggest Popeye or Jay Ward characters fan, I enjoy them for what they are. I just wish Universal would add a dark ride and a flat ride of some sort to the area. That amphitheater is just rotting away. What a waste of space.
I really hope they keep Ripsaw falls at the least, the theming and story on that ride phenomenal, I believe it was intentional to have the outdated comics since day one, when the park opened as you said these characters were 30+ years out of their air time and were outdated then, it’s history lesson with fun basically, the 2 rides there got me into watching old cartoons from time to time
The current generation doesn't know who these characters are and are unfamiliar with the material. Maybe it's for the best for it to be replaced with something more recognizable. That tracks with universal's pattern
@@metallicnole4514 Oh hell no! People in this generation still know those characters, and this land preserves history, replacing it would be a huge mistake.
@@Talesoftheokefenokeefan09 Universal hasn't cared about preserving history. The studios park looks nothing like it was back in the 90's. They have a history of replacing older attractions with newer ones with ips more recognizable to the current generation. They would have gotten rid of et if it didn't piss off speilburg.
I'm happy this video was recommended to me! It had both a professional and fun vibe and I liked hearing your thoughts on Toon Lagoon's future! I look forward to more videos!! 😄😄
Great video! Your figment video was on my front page, but im not a big figment fan, so I never looked into it, but this was a great video for someone with a channel just starting out! Im definitely going to watch your other videos!
I really really like toon lagoon, it feels so diferent from everything else on the park. And the rides, what more can you say they are great. I hope they don't change them any time soon.
My one visit to Universal back around 2015 was so heavily focused on the Harry Potter stuff that I feel like I gave the rest of the resort short shrift and barely scratched the surface. Here, I mostly remember the underwhelming street of monuments to King Features comic strips nobody cares about, and the utter *glory* that is Popeye and Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges, the wettest raft ride I've ever encountered. A low and a high.
Unfortunately those Ip's are dead due to Activision mishandling crash and spyro. The only non nintendo video game franchise to use is sonic the hedgehog.
Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls is one of my favorite rides in the entire park. The ride is fun and well taken care of, as it still looks new every time I go to Universal Studios, which isn't very often to begin with. Perhaps Universal studios should expand Toon Lagoon and provide more themed rides and shops in the area. I also think Dudley Do-Right should have merchandise for sale again, as everything related to the ride or characters, if I can find them online, is extremely old.
Same for me! I notice a lot of the animatronics and effects on the ride have been fixed almost like new as of August 2nd, the snidely on the tracks before the dark drop has a lot of movement now , Dudley in the canoe is moving again fully, and more , Nell that’s on the tracks is still missing probably getting restored. They definitely are up keeping this ride
This was such a well done video! Even though I don't personally reallt "connect" to the land, it's personally one of my favorite areas of the park jsut for the atmosphere. Also I absolutely love just standing on Me Ship, The Olive and adding to the unfortunate drowning of the raft guests below me.
I have 0 issue with the fact that these characters are ones I only vaguely know and definitely don’t connect with- those rides are IMPECCABLE and the vibes are strong as all get out. Ripsaw Falls was my number one favorite ride during my trip to both IoA and the OG park.
I’ve been going to this land since I was 5. I remember when I told my dad I had decided to conquer my fears and ride Dudley. I had no idea who that was, my dad told me about the stories. It was a nice bonding moment with us. And I really didn’t care that I was unfamiliar with almost all characters but recognized a few. To me it was just this fun, cartoon land. All the photo op spots where you can stand under neath the strips of words to look like you’re in a comic, the silly fountains around…to this day as someone who is now 30 and still doesn’t know much more about these guys it’s just fun to me. I would be devastated if they re themed Popeyes. I feel like the charm, quirk, and just straight up fun of the rides is what makes them great. I don’t want universal to start doing what Disney does, and tear down things they think are irrelevant for the latest IP cause they assume we can only enjoy something that way. (I’m still so freakin bitter they replaced maelstrom with frozen). I feel they eventually will do something here, probably not until the rides are at their expiration date because they’re kind of busy right now with a whole new park and other priorities outside of it 😅 honestly I’d rather them tear down kong and put something better there then mess with toon lagoon. And do anything with that Amphitheatre. Its the majesty building of IOA if you are from Orlando you get it 😂😂😂
If they do keep Toon Lagoon they need to at least start replacing some of the lands icons to more modern comic strip characters. Popeyes is the only character that is somewhat still relevant but the next generation of kids probably wont remember it. In my opinion just get rid of it all together. If Universal still wants to keep the theme of Islands being a land made up of worlds from literature then I suggest having Toon Lagoon be replaced with Shonen Jump/Manga characters. Specifically One Piece and Naruto. Have most of the land go to Naruto with comic strip turning into the Hidden Leaf Village and then have the back portion which houses Popeye and some other smaller shops and quick service restaurants house a small One Piece attraction. Ripsaw Falls will of course become a Naruto attraction either having the space be torn down completely for a brand new ride or having the attraction updated and revamped. Then later on they can make expansions with the Toon Lagoon theater and put another possible attraction using another big Shonen Jump IP.
I had that same thought as well, but even there some details I would've changed. First off, I also think having an land based around Shonen jump and anime in general is an good investment for the long haul. But rather have it replaced the marvel area instead as there's still interest of cartoon from its "golden age". And there's evidence for it, ranging from tv/movie revivals to even an toon-centric channels like MeTv toons, Boomerang, etc.. because if that's the case, then why not redo the cast with character that both the public and companies still engage with; and treat that area with the same mindset as with dark universe, since no care that much for the monsters till now with HHN And now a possible an MCU-style collection of movie project that'll happen later on. Tdlr: toon lagoon should stay but keep up with the times whenever possible. (Maybe add snoopy and Felix into the park, and a dark ride for woody too where the Amphitheater is).
@@fazver917 It’s a better investment to have marvel stay at the park because of the fact that if Superhero island is replaced the Marvel license deal will expire and Disney will get the rights to use Marvel characters in the Orlando parks. Also unlike the comic strip characters, Marvel clearly still has a pull with modern audiences. I do however like the concept of Snoopy and The Peanuts characters possibly replacing Toon Lagoon but the problem would come with the Peanuts brand already being licensed out to Knott’s in the West Coast and Cedar in the Eastcoast. Even though it may not seem like it, Toon Lagoon sits on a pretty big plot of land with most of it being taken up by Dudley Do Rights and Popeyes. Universal could easily either completely demolish the land and build a Lord of the Rings area or could retheme the land to what I said before but like the guy in the video, that also seems like a bad investment. Time will tell either way but it doesn’t seem bright for Toon Lagoon.
@@tallerwarrior1256 well honestly, much I wrote was on an whim since I've barley have time to thoroughly research it (work-related stuff). But I agree overall with what you've said, there in deep water now (pun intended).
I think your point about water attractions being closely related to the infrastructure of the park, protects and prolongs the life of these attractions more so than any other attraction type. I'm not an engineer but that point made sense to me. With that said, a retheme is probably the better route. Maybe go all in on the skull Island motif and turn Dudley's into some sort of escape from skull Island. And Popeyes could be rethemed to battling Godzilla. You could even add a fire element, which would be awesome.
It's pretty odd that Dudley Do-Right is at Toon Lagoon when all the other characters are from comic strips, and Dudley, Rocky and Bullwinkle are more remembered as TV show characters.
I think it is a unique placement that makes it appealing for Paramount to work with Universal on if it is the case. I think people look at Universal Kids as an immersive park when based off what we know so far I’m expecting it to be very similar to what we got in Dreamworks Land with well constructed playgrounds, shows, and lightly themed rides.
Nice video content and a refreshing narration style. It's so nice to have a creator who isn't shouting and going over the top when describing this genre. Keep up the zen presentation style, please
Honestly I couldnt even tell that you were new to this. I fully expected to see at least 10k subs and a bunch of other videos. Maybe its just because i really like universal and found the video super interesting :^)
Toon Lagoon is saved by having two of the worlds better water rides and also being available when the Florida heat comes. I have always had a soft spot for Toon Lagoon since I grew up watching Popeye reruns on cartoon network. Toon Lagoon works as a love letter to the past and it's keeping these characters alive when the rest of pop culture has left them behind. Retheming the land wouldn't be worth the cost since are popular and menus can simply be updated to fit the current theme if Universal wants to bring higher quality fare to the land.
I grew up watching a lot of old tv because i spent a lot of time with my grandparents, so when i went to Toon Lagoon, it felt like a loveletter to old cartoons and comics. As a kid, i sort of imagined it was where all the old characters went to retire. I think keeping that feeling is important to honor what came before. I see a lot of people in the comments suggesting to retheme it with Spongebob and other Nickelodeon IPs, but i really disagree. If i were to retheme it, I'd probably keep the more iconic characters. Popeye, Betty Boop, and Dagwood will stick around but I'd also see about striking a deal with WB to expand the selection with Hanna-Barbera and/or Loony Toons characters (with their classic designs). I feel like this is a happy medium. If they want to keep the comic theming too, they could also look at adding Peanuts or Garfield. I apologize if some of these characters are already in the park. It's been over a decade since I've been there, and my memory isn't the best
When I clicked into this video, I thought it would be hot take city. But nope. Well-reasoned, well-articulated, well-edited, and entertaining. No need to pivot-keep finding interesting stories and angles and I think you’ll do great.
I absolutely LOVE the idea of a park themed with older cartoons ans comic strips, and someone that grew up watching the oldies on this compilation tapes. It's an unpopular opinion I'm sure since less people will recognize these IPs but it's so refreshing to see compared to the overuse of modern day IPs that trend for a year or two before people move on to rhe next tying. These old IPs are timeless.
As for what I would replace it with… the rides themselves seem decently popular, and iirc the land is directly connected to the water system, so I’d like to keep the water rides intact, just rethemed. But as for what to retheme it to, it would make sense to update it to a property similar to how these characters were when the park launched- child friendly, yet nostalgic- with the added bit of being actually relevant to modern kids and their parents. Preferably with a water element to it already, since this land is primarily water rides. And it wouldn’t hurt if this property, if not directly Universal owned, was at least already in the park, if only through a store or something. What I’m saying is this land should obviously be rethemed to SpongeBob. And we seem to already have a SpongeBob land in the concept art of the Kids Resort.
I can appreciate your arguments. Well stated. I would say that universal kinda sucks at paying tribute to their own history. The only original ride left in the original park is ET. Which kinda sucks. It’s a great ride but it’s sad to see all the old staples gone. And the new IPs that have taken over the parks are not so great to me. Harry Potter takes up way too much of a footprint in the two parks. AND it’s getting more space in the new park. Whenever they lose Marvel, it’ll be a huge loss. They need to do better. Nintendo land seems to be the most promising prospect for the new park.
Classic monsters both pays tribute to universals past as well brings something fresh and new that’s my most anticipated land for Epic. But I completely agree about universal sucking at paying tribute to their own history
Yeah Dark Universe is really exciting in terms of how different it is from the new theme park lands we've been getting since The Wizarding World opened.
@@KobraKai2388 oh no I’m with you on that part that had some amazing rides Jaws back to the future etc they definitely don’t try to play on nostalgia like Disney does
According to the Universal Kids Resort art we've been given, they're dedicating an entire land to SpongeBob over there, so unless something changes Paramount doesn't have too much issue with pairing with Universal.
Toon Lagoon and Jurassic Park very much fot the theme of literature. The T-REX attack on the "river raft in the lagoon, and the eventual escape down river" in JP in the novel are one of the best sequences in the novel that were unfortunately left out of the film. It was the main motivation for the JP River Adventure.
I think you’re right I’ve been on the island of the adventure since it opened and May 1999 and I think it’s time for an overhaul for some of the islands. Don’t get me wrong. They have great things great rides. I think it’s a time for an overhaul an upgrade, and hopefully will work on that their epic universe opens
Half the problem with those characters not resonating, is the decline in newspaper comics. The funnies page is a shambling corpse, comics outliving their creators, being ghostwritten by corporate hires, bland jokes that read like all those "wife bad" memes mocking boomer on social media. The most exciting thing really to shake up the comics page in recent memory was the demise of Dilbert after the creator said racist statements. To be fair it's not all that bleak, there have been some standouts in the last few years (Cul-de-Sac was great until the creator's diagnosis with a terminal disease and his eventual death, and Pearls Before Swine even managed to rangle Calvin & Hobbes' creator out of retirement to do a few strips) but even these good comics are hampered by the decline of newspapers in general. The medium of the comic strip is just sinking on newspapers as the industry struggles to stay afloat. Of course there are webcomics, but the freedom of the web offers bigger issues in both getting characters to resonate with a big audience and keeping the content of the comics dare I say, theme park friendly. Unless we're talking about comics that are the butt of jokes like "Loss" I can't think of many webcomics that have as big cultural impact as their older newspaper comics. Yes, something like Sarah's Scribbles or Litterbox Comics have fairly robust followings online, but how many people would be rushing to a park to meet those characters? How many indie webcomic creators would be willing to even license their characters to a theme park to begin with anyways? The web has a funny way of both bringing comics to a wider audience, and then siloing the fanbases into their respective corner without always being aware of what else is out there.
If anything Toon Lagoon is deserving of an expansion or an update of sorts. They don’t need to close down any attractions, they should just take more advantage of the classic IPs they own or have the license to like the Jay Ward characters, Betty Boop, Popeye, and the like making more attractions and experiences themed to those. Adding some other characters even some that are as recognizable, if not more like the Harveytoons (like Casper), even implementing other recognizable would be a nice touch. I find it odd that Universal has the theme park rights to use Scooby Doo but they only utilize the characters for meet and greets and merchandise. There hasn’t been a dedicated attraction to Scooby Doo or the Hanna Barbera characters since The Funtastic World of Hanna Barbera closed long ago. If they added a Scooby Doo or Hanna Barbera spot to Toon Lagoon, there would be a bit more interest. They’d likely have to cut away pieces of Jurassic Park, or Marvel Super Hero Island or something but it could possibly work.
I’m gonna be real, I went to Universal Orlando for the first time in 2014, before I got into my true “parks fandom” era and with no real prior knowledge of what was or would be there. I had no idea that Islands of Adventure was supposed to be literature related. I had a blast and nothing felt out of place. I don’t think the “man, this doesn’t fit the theme” really is an issue for the majority of people
Yeah the overall theme of IOA has dissolved since opening and the average guests just see it as a collection of properties, just goes to help Toon Lagoon stick around for longer
This was really enjoyable! I can honestly say I never knew a lot of this about Toon Lagoon-I usually have a camera or two with me so water rides are often lower on my list and it’s kind of the cute land I walk through to get to something else, but I do appreciate it. (Once when I had family in town like waaaaay back in the early 2000s, my brother and husband and I went on Dudley Do Right and got beyond soaked-we went out to eat after our day at the park and we were still soaked and absolutely froze in the restaurant’s AC, ha!) Awesome video and I hope you do more. Got a sub from me! 😊
the worst thing about toon lagoon is that both of its attractions are water rides, and not everyone wants to get soaking wet which is especially true of universal water rides lol
My thoughts for a potential retheme property: Lord of the Rings. Turn the main street into Hobbiton, Sweet Haven into Mirkwood. Popeye's becomes the barrel escape scene from the Hobbit. I don't know what they would do to replace Ripsaw, but I'm sure Universal could think of something.
having grown up with popeye and dudly doo right and some of these other characters they're great for comic book nerds to see if anything they should make the land bigger with the removal of the marvel part and make hulk into a little nemo coaster make it like the incredacoaster is with static figures on it and have a simple animatronic of little nemo in bed because he's in a dream land that's his comic idea and the spiderman ride could be rethemed to a Garfield ride.
Wonderful video! The vocal fry made it a bit difficult to listen to. I know it's a popular vocal inflection choice but if it's an affect it makes watching the video a bit difficult.
I feel Toon Lagoon should get a fresh new look Krabby Land Pandemonium Cartoon Circus will be SpongeBob, squidward, Patrick's house Comic Strip Cafe - Will be Krusty Krab Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls - Will be rock bottom Roller coaster with water Wimpy's will be “Mrs. Puff’s Boating School a ride that looks like a better Goofy's Sky School Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges will be re theme of SpongeBob
I personally think Toon Lagoon has a nice charm and has some awesome rides, its a nice area to cool down. Although I am hoping with Dudley's retheme the line for it will be better. It is scorching in one particular room towards the end of the line and its incredibly slow. If anything they should begin rethemeing the lost continent. I LOVE the theme of the lost continent and I miss a lot of the stuff in it but it never really had much in it to begin with, the theme is and was amazing, but now there is literally nothing but Mythos and a few stores. I hope that they can retheme the lost continent without totally revamping it.
A revamped Lost Continent is needed and hopefully next in line at Islands of Adventure... however... if they touch Mythos it will be devastating for me
Yeah I will give Universal a lot of props for how much they’ve put into maintaining ET recently. So much of that ride is looking the best it has in years now!
I know I’m a month late but a Sanrio/hello kitty land seems like it would be immensely profitable. Don’t get me wrong I love toon lagoon. But with hello kitty not only skyrocketing in popularity but having a breakout game and tons of imagery based around islands, beach themes… it makes so much sense. Why the hello kitty store and meet and greet but no land?
I would not be surprised if that replaced the Jay Ward themed attractions since Universal Pictures sold Rocky and Bullwinkle and the others to WildBrain.
@@B-Mode UGHH How did I skip that or miss that.. GOOD JOB!! Love this content. Orlando resident here and fully agree. It is what it us until further notice I suppose:) Now, how do I get Epic preview tickets!! LOL
I think Universal should replace Marvel Superhero Island with a DC comics themed attraction. Because Disney owned the rights to Marvel. Universal also had been showing WB-related attractions like Wizarding World of Harry Potter, a Friday The 13th themed haunted maze in Halloween Horror Nightsand even the characters from Scooby Doo.
What I really mean they should replace The Marvel Superhero Island instead of replacing Toon Lagoon. Now I can understand why people were fond by Toon Lagoon
Original they were going to use the looney toons characters but when WB demanded an outrageous percentage on each ticket sold Universal told them to f off and they decided to go with flycher characters instead. WB then made a deal with Six flags instead.
10:13 and even more considering that Transformers the ride 3D is still pretty much the same since the early 2010's even though the ride became outdated 2 years after when Age of extinction hit the theaters and even more when the Bayverse was completely rebooted when Bumblebee and more recently rise of the beasts hit theaters
i mean this was built in the 90s and these characters were irrelevant then too. Popeye had a movie that bombed a decade before. Bullwinkle had a movie that bombed a few years prior. And i can guarantee nobody outside of maybe some silent generation folks cared about Dagwood, Marmaduek, Blondie, whatever. Comic Strips were already shrinking by that point anyway in the newspaper. They were already an incredibly small/niche part of the culture. Minus maybe Garfield. In a way I think Universal mightve known this going in. I mean they HAD to have. I think it was always meant to be an easy entryway to the park with a nostalgic feeling a la Main Street. Like you said, too attention grabbing it would stifle crowds.
Irs not weird, people thinks it's weird because they don't understand the comic references. Sadly people don't read sunday comics anymore nor does TV channels air these older cartoon shows like rocky and bull winkle. If they updated to modern cartoons in comics like garfield, (keep popeye and Betty boop), Tom and Jerry, Hanna barbera, they the world would be lit
Toon lagoon is the best themed area besides Lost Continent, don’t touch it! Especially Popeye (the best raft ride in the world) and Dudley-Doo-Right “the best water ride in Orlando.
Yes, I didn't want to complicate the video too much with it but my general thoughts is Nick/Paramount is approaching Universal Kids like they do their parks at the Mall Of America/American Dream. They aren't destination parks themselves so they're not competing with their destination resorts and allow them to get their properties in a new market. This is just my thoughts but I just hesitate to think Universal Orlando will get a Bikini Bottom land anytime soon.
I'd also like to point out just how incredibly detailed the land is. Discourse always swirls around how outdated the land feels, but it rarely gets the credit it deserves as a well realized love letter to these properties.
I'm so glad I got recommended this! You have the perfect vibe for these kinds of videos and I hope you do more
This was awesome. Glad I’m getting in early
In 25 years Toon Lagoon has undergone 0 changes because it is without flaw
Toon Lagoon could add like a Garfield store, and it would fit right at home, and make the land more relevant. The characters all have so much history that removing them would be a crime.
I think another theme park may have the rights to Garfield presently. But the idea sounds good.
The Cartoon Network hotel could be its own story, like Nick they seem to dip their toes in themed entertainment but not make the leap into it
Sometimes I wonder what an alternate universe where The Funtastic World of Hanna Barbara got replaced with a Cartoon Network ride instead of a Nickelodeon ride. 🙎♂️
The possibilities of rides are so big. Imagine an Adventure Time ride…gosh that’s a million dollar idea right there.
The theming is great, love having ips that aren’t as known. Not everything needs to be the most recently relevant thing. Lagoon needs major work tho
I really hope they keep Ripsaw falls at the least, the theming and story on that ride phenomenal, I believe it was intentional to have the outdated comics since day one, when the park opened as you said these characters were 30+ years out of their air time and were outdated then, it’s history lesson with fun basically, the 2 rides there got me into watching old cartoons from time to time
Replacing this land would be a HUGE mistake for Universal, I would never come back to the park.
It'd be way more advantageous to remove marvel superhero island and replace it with a far superior DC island.
@@metallicnole4514 somebody needs to start a petition to keep Toon Lagoon forever.
I'm happy this video was recommended to me! It had both a professional and fun vibe and I liked hearing your thoughts on Toon Lagoon's future! I look forward to more videos!! 😄😄
Thanks so much! Be on the lookout soon... like really soon
Great video! Your figment video was on my front page, but im not a big figment fan, so I never looked into it, but this was a great video for someone with a channel just starting out! Im definitely going to watch your other videos!
Glad you liked it!
Sad that Islands of Adventure has two huge stadiums that just sit empty.
It's a last remaining remnant of late 90s quirkiness. I love it for that
I really really like toon lagoon, it feels so diferent from everything else on the park.
One retheme that could work would be basing the land around more cartoony video games like Crash Bandicoot and Spyro
Unfortunately those Ip's are dead due to Activision mishandling crash and spyro.
The only non nintendo video game franchise to use is sonic the hedgehog.
Crash actually used to be at the park but not at islands of adventure
I like toon lagoon for being simple like the times in which they came .
Incredible editing and production. Definitely earned a sub from me. Keep up the good work
I hope they don’t change it because I’m a huge classic cartoons fan.
They need to turn the unused theater into a new ride ... The Neutronator!
Justice for Toon Lagoon
Its the majesty building of IOA if you are from Orlando you get it 😂😂😂
I-4 eyesore😂
this is such a good video! i love how chill u are keep making videos please :)
@@fazver917
It’s a better investment to have marvel stay at the park because of the fact that if Superhero island is replaced the Marvel license deal will expire and Disney will get the rights to use Marvel characters in the Orlando parks.
What are your thoughts on the rumored SpongeBob land coming to Universal Kids in Texas?
I think it is a unique placement that makes it appealing for Paramount to work with Universal on if it is the case. I think people look at Universal Kids as an immersive park when based off what we know so far I’m expecting it to be very similar to what we got in Dreamworks Land with well constructed playgrounds, shows, and lightly themed rides.
Man, toon lagoon sounds awesome. I’m not a big universal fan, but this seems super cute.
Nice video content and a refreshing narration style. It's so nice to have a creator who isn't shouting and going over the top when describing this genre. Keep up the zen presentation style, please
Appreciate it!
Honestly I couldnt even tell that you were new to this. I fully expected to see at least 10k subs and a bunch of other videos. Maybe its just because i really like universal and found the video super interesting :^)
Thanks, I really appreciate the support!
Just noticed that this channel only has 2 videos so far. Keep it up! You got some great ideas!
710 SUBSCRIBERS????? this is too good for a channel with 710 subscibers, wow
@@c_friiiyou’re right. I forgot about that. That’s cool at least.
Nice vid man
Toon Lagoon and Jurassic Park very much fot the theme of literature. The T-REX attack on the "river raft in the lagoon, and the eventual escape down river" in JP in the novel are one of the best sequences in the novel that were unfortunately left out of the film. It was the main motivation for the JP River Adventure.
I bet this guy doesn't even know about the secret smoke spots near the ship..smh But you're right
I love ripsaw falls but it was closed for the season when I went there. It does need some upgrades for sure.
I would hate it if they got rid of Dudley and Popeye from the rides.
I agree that area of the park is in need of a re theme idk what they would change it to.
Also love how calm your vibe is!!
Appreciate it!
This may have been said before, but if you were to transform this entire land - I got one answer:
Bikini Bottom.
I’d say bikini bottom would fit better in epic universe
Great first video
Please keep Toon Lagoon forever please! 😭😭😭
Great video. I like the way you explain things, and I totally agree with the entire video.
Toon Lagoon has two of the best water rides in the world, you said it! Completely agree
Great video!
I did the Popeye ride for my eighth grade field trip and we had to dry off in one of those hurricane thingies
I really wish they had an area themed to Casper. How cool would a haunted house dark ride be if it were themed to Casper?
Family friendly expansion to Dark Universe?
Little bro bro, toon lagoon rocks for old heads and young heads alike
Thanks so much, definitely relate to not riding water rides because of my camera lol
the worst thing about toon lagoon is that both of its attractions are water rides, and not everyone wants to get soaking wet which is especially true of universal water rides lol
Too much toon, not enough lagoon
having grown up with popeye and dudly doo right and some of these other characters they're great for comic book nerds to see if anything they should make the land bigger with the removal of the marvel part and make hulk into a little nemo coaster make it like the incredacoaster is with static figures on it and have a simple animatronic of little nemo in bed because he's in a dream land that's his comic idea and the spiderman ride could be rethemed to a Garfield ride.
I would be fine having ripsaw become a SpongeBob attraction but I would be livid if Popeyes closed
Both rides are great. Retheme the land, but Keep the rides.
Wonderful video! The vocal fry made it a bit difficult to listen to. I know it's a popular vocal inflection choice but if it's an affect it makes watching the video a bit difficult.
Thanks for the support! I wish it was an intentional choice lol but trying to be more cognizant of it in upcoming videos!
I feel Toon Lagoon should get a fresh new look
Krabby Land
Pandemonium Cartoon Circus will be SpongeBob, squidward, Patrick's house
Comic Strip Cafe - Will be Krusty Krab
Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls - Will be rock bottom Roller coaster with water
Wimpy's will be “Mrs. Puff’s Boating School a ride that looks like a better Goofy's Sky School
Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges will be re theme of SpongeBob
I personally think Toon Lagoon has a nice charm and has some awesome rides, its a nice area to cool down. Although I am hoping with Dudley's retheme the line for it will be better. It is scorching in one particular room towards the end of the line and its incredibly slow. If anything they should begin rethemeing the lost continent. I LOVE the theme of the lost continent and I miss a lot of the stuff in it but it never really had much in it to begin with, the theme is and was amazing, but now there is literally nothing but Mythos and a few stores. I hope that they can retheme the lost continent without totally revamping it.
A revamped Lost Continent is needed and hopefully next in line at Islands of Adventure... however... if they touch Mythos it will be devastating for me
Well at least Islands of Adventure, still has most of it's opening day attractions. Unlike Universal which only has ET.
I would not be surprised if that replaced the Jay Ward themed attractions since Universal Pictures sold Rocky and Bullwinkle and the others to WildBrain.
i love the intro and pfp everest is my favourite ride at disney lol
Loved the video do more please!
Nice video! Can we see some HHN Orlando content in the future?

Toon lagoon is my BABY my fave island and do rights' is literally my favorite of ioa 😭😭 (< went before hagrids opened up)
Original they were going to use the looney toons characters but when WB demanded an outrageous percentage on each ticket sold Universal told them to f off and they decided to go with flycher characters instead. WB then made a deal with Six flags instead.
I never quite understood why wb went with six flags over universal for the dc ip
Six Flags has had the rights to the Looney Tunes since 1984
I love this land.
Why do you only have 260 subs? lemme be your 261st
I l o v e Lost Continent, forever mad I never got to see it in its full glory
Keep it up 👍
Isn’t universal kids rumored to have a SpongeBob land?
Yes, I didn't want to complicate the video too much with it but my general thoughts is Nick/Paramount is approaching Universal Kids like they do their parks at the Mall Of America/American Dream. They aren't destination parks themselves so they're not competing with their destination resorts and allow them to get their properties in a new market. This is just my thoughts but I just hesitate to think Universal Orlando will get a Bikini Bottom land anytime soon.
