i was literally shocked to look at the view count and see that this didn’t have 1M+ views and you don’t have 100k+ subscribers?? this was so well produced and something i’ve been wanting to see. you’ve earned a sub and I hope this blows up.
I love documentaries like the Imagineering Story. It’s a great documentary but it’s also company propaganda. The analysis of the call and response between Disney and Universal since the 90s like this is what is needed. Theme park nerds know most of the story, but the common person doesn’t realize this arms race
I grew up in an Orlando suburb so it is interesting to learn this history. I couldn’t imagine Disney without Animal Kingdom, so I’m glad this all happened 🤷🏽♀️ Thanks for your hard work 😀
Incredibly well done video essay! As someone who watches a ton of them, it was really refreshing for new to me information. Subscribed and looking forward to the next!
Great video and absolutely love your style, you nailed nerdy and I'm here for it. Love seeing a new channel smd can't wait to see you grow. Keep going my friend, great content
I don’t think Disney’s yet to equal the impact that Wizarding World had for Universal. The detail? Sure. But the actual feelings and impact? I don’t know for sure. Maybe it’s just because I’m not as big a Star Wars person as I was formerly a HP one. But the thing they did succeed in, in my opinion, is making the original sections of Wizarding World seem smaller and less stand-out in Current Day. Maybe the Orlando one with its additions still has that sense of awe but I’ve been to a couple of the other Wizarding Worlds now that still just have the first section and each time I’m like “god this is still beautiful, but I swear I remember this being bigger…”
1st of all, amazing video! 2nd: Imagine where we would be today if Igor had this kind of passion about parks and innovation that Eisner had. I find igor’s style so bland and safe compared to the fearlessness and creativity that eisner led the company with.
It really seems like despite Disney being at the top of the theme park industry, they don’t necessarily lead it. As in they rarely push the boundaries of what a theme can be and instead prefer to stay in their safe money-making bubble. Universal has had a desire to beat Disney for decades which has pushed them to make massive steps in innovating the industry, which only then would Disney do the same in response. Disney has only been reactive to Universal’s moves, which may eventually lead to Universal finally beating Disney. If it weren’t for Harry Potter, then Pandora and Galaxys edge wouldn’t exist. Disney would have to take a proactive approach and make sure competition can’t catch up if they want to stay at the top.
There was actually bad blood between MGM and Disney funnily enough. To make a long story short, MGM didn’t understand the scope of the agreement they signed with Disney especially the production heavy focus of the “gated experience” which led to a legal battle between the two. MGM’s idea of the partnership with Disney was basically just getting paid by Disney to use their name only on the park and select movies in the great movie ride. Whereas Universal was asking them to pay a substantial amount of money to help build shared studios that MGM had no plans to utilize. It’s a really interesting situation but I felt like it was a bit too much of a tangent to include in this video
I think a more successful direct example of Disney creating a very solidly built immersive land after Universal did wonders with Wizarding World would actually be CARS LAND at California Adventure, more so than Pandora (or at least a more direct comparison as Cars Land opened in 2012, much sooner after Harry Potter than the 2015 opening of the Avatar attraction)
I think Cars Land is a very unique situation with it being planned as being heavily themed to the same inspirations as the movie series with the property added in later. I think it's interesting that even with Cars Land's success Disney went a different direction in the ideation of future immersive lands. Instead of more directly trying to recapture Universal's formula they had an interesting formula themselves by building a land around shared inspirations and using that to guide the project.
love the topic and your lighting is amazing! You obviously put a lot of hard work in for the research and the execution of this video. I'm from the west coast but this level of vocal fry is a bit too much for me 💔 i will try again without headphones. I'm only commenting this because I'm probably not the only person, and i think if you maybe spoke more with your diaphragm (i think? I'm no expert) that it would really go a long way. Anyway what do i know. You should definitely be proud of yourself for this work though!!
hey I have a video idea, so there is a channel called VincentVision and he did a short series called "my perfect islands of adventure" he did the same for the orginal park and halloween horror nights, I was thinking you could do the same for the disney parks "my perfect magic kingdom" ect
since you seem like someone reasonable how would you rank the 6 universal and disney florida parks mine (this will give disney adults a heart attack): 6. universal studios florida (way too many screen based dark rides but i love the harry potter land and rip ride rockit) 5. magic kingdom (literally so much concrete and sun, i hate fantasyland and the only decent land is tommorrowland bc i like space mountain and tron, the other rides are mid and foreign versions are typically better) 4. epcot (because im not that into food, the queues are crazy, but i love gotg coaster, mission space and test track) 3. hollywood studios (becuase of galaxy's edge) 2. islands of adventure (because of the 3 amazing coasters and harry potter land) 1. animal kingdom (because of immersiveness, everest, pandora, and all the shade and water in the park)
Great video! I think a lot of the stories about JK Rowling’s initial conversations with Disney and how she came to an agreement with Universal are all highly apocryphal and should be taken with a generous grain of salt. The stories are mostly all based on old rumors from theme park forums, and there is scant reliable information that backs up any of it.
I feel like I'm the only one who isn't impressed with Epic Universe. While the Disney parks aren't aging gracefully, neither are the Universal parks. Both companies are greedy and would rather grow infinitely rather than enrich what they've already built and established. Building more resorts to own more foreign markets and adding extra parks to add days to vacations, while everything else rots. Also other than Dark Univese land, Epic universe looks kind of lame. Also it should be called epic European-verse because every land is some sort of take on European culture. - Gothic European land - Parisian Gothic land - Dragon European land and European Cartoon castle with Italian plumber land, all built around European mythology land. It's a little redundant and honestly not that epic or universal. Luckily they have a tacky, generic, overpriced, Asian restaurant attached to the hotel from a parallel dimension, to balance things out though !
A 40 minute video essay on Eisner?! You win my subscription fair and square 😂
I'm gay too hidey

this is such high quality and really well presented. great video!
Great video essay! Its shocking that your under 1k subs with the quality of these videos. Keep up the great work!
Thank you!
there are so many video essays on the Eisner erai really enjoyed how you went about telling this story! a fun new approach i really enjoyed watching!
i really really hope you do more of these long-format video essays, this was so fun to watch!
high quality content keep up the good work, criminal how low the views are.
appreciate it!
This was so well laid out, I love it! I love hearing MGM and not Hollywood studios 🤩and chefs kiss on the glasses change when talking about HP😆
Great video. So much credit goes to Universal's superb Creative team and the freedom (and budgets) they've been given to bring their visions to life.
Great video! Loved the subtitles, the outfit change, and the vinyl changes. Lots of great subtle visual jokes. All this on top of a great video essay!
Glad someone noticed, keeps things fun when filming
@ yeah man, they legit made me laugh. Can’t wait to see what your next video is!
I grew up in an Orlando suburb so it is interesting to learn this history. I couldn’t imagine Disney without Animal Kingdom, so I’m glad this all happened 🤷🏽♀️ Thanks for your hard work 😀
Amazing. Love this. More essays please!!
Love these types of videos! seeing how a small choice can create such a big domino effect is just crazy!
That's exactly why I wanted to make this video, there's just something satisfying about seeing how a decision plays out long term
Damn, subtitles and all? Easiest subscribe of my life.
We need more videos like this
this is actually my favorite topic ever, here before u blow up!
Great content! It may have taken a long time, but it was worth it! I hope to see new videos from you soon! Congratulations!
Thank you so much! Hope to have the next video up within a week or two!
Great job
If Roy E. Disney were alive today, he would oust Iger and make major changes to the company.
This video is so well done! Commenting for the algorithm
this was an incredibly well made video, keep it up!!
thank you so much!
very well done, excellent editing. Enjoyed the whole video.
Algorithm boost
Incredibly well done video essay! As someone who watches a ton of them, it was really refreshing for new to me information. Subscribed and looking forward to the next!
I'm glad I brought some new information to the table!
Cool video! Looking forward to more
my favorite niche topic of the last couple years (disney vs universal) just keeps getting better
Great video and absolutely love your style, you nailed nerdy and I'm here for it. Love seeing a new channel smd can't wait to see you grow. Keep going my friend, great content

Looking at the other Wizarding World Orlando’s is definitely the most grand in scale and makes it the immersive land it is
Had they focused the Star Wars land on specifically the original trilogy, it could have.
This was great, I feel like I’m seeing the beginnings of a future big TH-camr
here before this goes viral!
The creator is Harry Potter - THEY 💀
I grew up in an Orlando suburb so it is interesting to learn this history.
Just discovered your channel! Love the name!
Thanks! Glad to have you here!

7:00 The perms are out of control
I would say something about them but, my generation made the bowl cut a thing so I should probably keep my mouth shut
Amazing video

Amazing Video love How You Talk About Epic universe Orlando Florida keep making more TH-cam videos all the time bye 🦋🌈🎉
If Universal approached every Studio in Hollywood, how is it that Disney partnered with MGM? Was there any "bad blood" between Universal and MGM?

*How the HELL do you only have 1k!?*
AND YOU DO SUBTITLES IM GONNA HAPPY CRY
Yay! I'm glad people appreciate those! I know they're probably still not 100% correct but one manual pass is better than just the auto-captions by far
@@B-Mode Totes, I need subtitles a lot of the time and those really helped! I appreciate accessibility! :3
Well, they better figure out how to restart it again soon cause they are not very fun anymore
Great Job! You deserve more views. I hope it happens for you

It changes a lot but today I’d probably say
1. IOA
2. Epcot
3. DHS
4. DAK
5. USF
6. MK
THE [creator of harry potter] is so funny to me
Subtle right? Lol
"The creator of Harry Potter" is so shady and I'm so here for it.
Let's be clear, he was the best Disney CEO that is still alive and needs to come back
Agreed
I love the dedication to keeping She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named directly referenced as little as possible
i want to watch this, but the vocal fry...
The Toy Story lands are lazy

Hell yeah I'm all for that
