The Michael Eisner Domino Effect
Michael Eisner's jealousy is well documented, but just how much of an impact did it have on the theme park industry?
In this ✨short✨ video I try to explain that... did I do a good job? Idk at this point I've been working on this for months, I've lost the plot completely.

    I heard rumors that Universal is interested to acquire Microsoft into their brand similar how they did with Nintendo the reason why Universal is interested to acquire Microsoft is because to one of Microsoft game franchises Minecraft into the Universal Parks if they wanted to have a Minecraft theme land somewhere in Universal Orlando Resort it would have to be over at Islands of Adventure by replacing either Toon Lagoon or Dr. Seuss Land

    I found it interesting how you said that the Figment who is on the ride today, according to some fans, is not the same Figment from the original ride. I know, for me, this is not the case. But that's only because of...well...my imagination. You see, I made a little headcanon that goes like this: When Journey into Imagination closed, Dreamfinder left EPCOT in order to continue searching the universe for sparks of inspiration. Because people still needed to be taught the power of imagination, however, Dreamfinder left Figment behind at the Imagination Pavillion and told him to continue teaching people about imagination while he was gone. Essentially, he left Figment in charge. Fast forward to Journey into (Your) Imagination...everything goes up in smoke (figuratively) because, to put it simply, the Imagination Institute lacked imagination. Figment, realizing he can't keep his promise to Dreamfinder from the shadows like he initially planned, reveals himself to Dr. Nigel Channing and the other scientists (hence him being called a "discovery" of the Imagination Institute in Journey into Imagination with Figment). In the current version of the ride, at least on my timeline, Figment has been asked to keep to the shadows for the Imagination Institute's open house. At first, he's ok with complying as the Institute has changed quite a bit since he was "discovered". After seeing that Dr. Nigel Channing still believes imagination must be "contained and controlled" (to quote the ride), however, Figment realizes he's going to have to give the scientists (and, through taking over the open house, us) a lesson in the power of imagination...the very same lesson Dreamfinder taught us before he left EPCOT all those years ago. Through this headcanon, I'm able to see Figment as the same character he's always been. The only thing that makes him different from how he used to be is the fact his experiences at the institute have changed how he goes about teaching Dreamfinder's lesson as well as help him to grow and mature in the same way we do. In other words, Figment's grown up to become a bit of a dreamfinder himself. A dreamfinder that Dreamfinder himself can be proud of. Sorry if this is a bit long, I just thought it's be fun to share this perspective as it, in a way, defends this ride's version of Figment. Thank you for making this video. I found it very interesting to learn just how many things from Journey into Your Imagination were salvaged for the current version (I already knew about the butterfly illusion and the upside-down house, but I didn't know all the other things you mentioned). I hope you continue making videos like this. Thanks again for reading my comment. Have a great day.

    I enjoy Toon Lagoon. They weren’t cartoons of my generation, but they are of my mom’s, which I think does make it relevant. Plus, I think it’s nice to have theming that isn’t pushing the latest IP at you.

    It really seems like despite Disney being at the top of the theme park industry, they don’t necessarily lead it. As in they rarely push the boundaries of what a theme can be and instead prefer to stay in their safe money-making bubble. Universal has had a desire to beat Disney for decades which has pushed them to make massive steps in innovating the industry, which only then would Disney do the same in response. Disney has only been reactive to Universal’s moves, which may eventually lead to Universal finally beating Disney. If it weren’t for Harry Potter, then Pandora and Galaxys edge wouldn’t exist. Disney would have to take a proactive approach and make sure competition can’t catch up if they want to stay at the top.

    • @B-Mode

      I think it is a unique placement that makes it appealing for Paramount to work with Universal on if it is the case. I think people look at Universal Kids as an immersive park when based off what we know so far I’m expecting it to be very similar to what we got in Dreamworks Land with well constructed playgrounds, shows, and lightly themed rides.

    If Universal approached every Studio in Hollywood, how is it that Disney partnered with MGM? Was there any "bad blood" between Universal and MGM?

    • @B-Mode
      @B-Mode หลายเดือนก่อน

      There was actually bad blood between MGM and Disney funnily enough. To make a long story short, MGM didn’t understand the scope of the agreement they signed with Disney especially the production heavy focus of the “gated experience” which led to a legal battle between the two. MGM’s idea of the partnership with Disney was basically just getting paid by Disney to use their name only on the park and select movies in the great movie ride. Whereas Universal was asking them to pay a substantial amount of money to help build shared studios that MGM had no plans to utilize. It’s a really interesting situation but I felt like it was a bit too much of a tangent to include in this video

    Great video! I think a lot of the stories about JK Rowling’s initial conversations with Disney and how she came to an agreement with Universal are all highly apocryphal and should be taken with a generous grain of salt. The stories are mostly all based on old rumors from theme park forums, and there is scant reliable information that backs up any of it.

    I love documentaries like the Imagineering Story. It’s a great documentary but it’s also company propaganda. The analysis of the call and response between Disney and Universal since the 90s like this is what is needed. Theme park nerds know most of the story, but the common person doesn’t realize this arms race

    I feel like I'm the only one who isn't impressed with Epic Universe. While the Disney parks aren't aging gracefully, neither are the Universal parks. Both companies are greedy and would rather grow infinitely rather than enrich what they've already built and established. Building more resorts to own more foreign markets and adding extra parks to add days to vacations, while everything else rots. Also other than Dark Univese land, Epic universe looks kind of lame. Also it should be called epic European-verse because every land is some sort of take on European culture. - Gothic European land - Parisian Gothic land - Dragon European land and European Cartoon castle with Italian plumber land, all built around European mythology land. It's a little redundant and honestly not that epic or universal. Luckily they have a tacky, generic, overpriced, Asian restaurant attached to the hotel from a parallel dimension, to balance things out though !

    I think whatever the songs could be they should be "rock and roll" songs. Disco and some pop is not rock and roll, and although fun on the ride, when Quill says "no one is going to keep rock and roll from existing" and then a disco or pop song starts, it doesn't seem like the best fit.

    I’m gonna be real, I went to Universal Orlando for the first time in 2014, before I got into my true “parks fandom” era and with no real prior knowledge of what was or would be there. I had no idea that Islands of Adventure was supposed to be literature related. I had a blast and nothing felt out of place. I don’t think the “man, this doesn’t fit the theme” really is an issue for the majority of people

    • @B-Mode

    I think a more successful direct example of Disney creating a very solidly built immersive land after Universal did wonders with Wizarding World would actually be CARS LAND at California Adventure, more so than Pandora (or at least a more direct comparison as Cars Land opened in 2012, much sooner after Harry Potter than the 2015 opening of the Avatar attraction)

    • @B-Mode
      @B-Mode 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think Cars Land is a very unique situation with it being planned as being heavily themed to the same inspirations as the movie series with the property added in later. I think it's interesting that even with Cars Land's success Disney went a different direction in the ideation of future immersive lands. Instead of more directly trying to recapture Universal's formula they had an interesting formula themselves by building a land around shared inspirations and using that to guide the project.

    It’s ironic that Universal Orlando spent SO LONG desperately trying to catch up to Disney…and tread water….Until Wizarding World! And ever since, Universal Creative has been pretty soundly TROUNCING Disney, building new innovations much quicker and are about to open an innovative brand new park, the first new park in Florida in 2 1/2 Decades, and leaving Disney at least four years away from being able to answer the challenge with a whole lot of expansions that it was obvious were hastily planned!

    I don’t think Disney’s yet to equal the impact that Wizarding World had for Universal. The detail? Sure. But the actual feelings and impact? I don’t know for sure. Maybe it’s just because I’m not as big a Star Wars person as I was formerly a HP one. But the thing they did succeed in, in my opinion, is making the original sections of Wizarding World seem smaller and less stand-out in Current Day. Maybe the Orlando one with its additions still has that sense of awe but I’ve been to a couple of the other Wizarding Worlds now that still just have the first section and each time I’m like “god this is still beautiful, but I swear I remember this being bigger…”
