Nighthawk Customized Colt's Pre-War Government Model- My "First" Custom

- Continuing down the path of some of my first handguns, this 1919 Colt's Government Model may be one of the most important. It was my first custom gun, my first pre-war Colt's, and the first gun I ever considered to be an "heirloom" piece. In the wake of a dismal "graduation due to the world shutting down, this was a gift to myself, the first college graduate in my direct bloodline.
Before anyone gets too riled up, this pistol was NOT in its original condition when it was sent to NHC back in 2020. I DO NOT advocate for customizing historical firearms in original or "close to" original condition.

Love that pistol and story 🇺🇸 thanks Eli
Love the humor you tossed into this video. It is what made me look for your channel after the top 5 1911 video.
Thank you so much!
Yep, me too!

Ramble on, Eli! The more you talk, the longer we get to admire that fine piece.
Besides, when you know the backstory about something, it makes it more interesting. And this piece already starts off interesting because of it’s vintage. The story makes it more so. It personalizes it.
Keep ‘em coming!
I'm a fan of the Harrison retro fixed sights. They look great on the older guns.
They are FANTASTIC. Especially if you want the "look" of old sights but the performance of new.
You chose well. The people right down the road from Wilson Combat build one of the finest 1911s actually ever built.
Finally! Been waiting on this.
I know!!
Wonderful 1911 young man. That is a wonderful modernization restoration. It looks likes it's done a proper job for the most part carrying the original personality (The original wood grips were as unforgiving as they were consistant). I got mine as an heirloom. Has a crazy story behind it dealing with a lot of the sins of America from within. It should have been DRMO'd and sent to scrap, but instead was issued to the African-American soldiers. And that's where my family's story starts with it.
Eli Nighthawk should continue to make this model and call it the “DUCKWORTH”
That is definitely done in good taste!
My mother's maiden name is Browning, and yes there is relation descended from a brother of JMB. Been carrying a 1911 since I was 16. I'm now 54. The hammer dipped in blood got me. Good stuff. I'm also a two tour US Marine combat vet. I feel your pain, and love for the 1911. Semper Fi.
I have several 1911s, There is nothing like a 45 1911 and I carry it in a crossdraw. I was fortunate last Fall to be able to purchase a NightHawk TRS Comp. It is a whole nother level of stupid good. My favorite 1911 is my Dan Wesson. I just sent my Colt Gold Cup Trophy to NightHawk for customization.
I’m a little older than you. My first 1911 I shot as a kid was a 22’ commercial. So when I got old enough to buy a pistol I looked for a 1911. I briefly owned a pretty nice 19’ commercial. I noticed with both it and the 22’ some serious peening on the slide stop notch. I’m still a young man so I traded the 19’ for wwi black oxide and wmk carbonia blue ri colt wwi reproductions. I wanted to own guns I wouldn’t worry about shooting. With the soft steel and the original recommended service life of 4000 rounds do you worry about shooting your gun? That’s such a good looking 1911 for the slide to give it up and crack…the 22’ is a family member’s. I hope to own a 22’ commercial someday but other than checking function don’t plan on shooting it much. Nothing feels better in the hand to me as that 22’ commercial that was my great grandfather’s….
I saw a nice alchemy this weekend at a gun show but he was asking enough I could order exactly what I wanted cheaper direct from you guys. It felt and looked great though…
That’s a beautiful pistol man I love that classic look. Very well done!
Beautiful build. I have a 1960 Sistema 1927 I’m looking to build similar to this. Trigger job re-blue hand fit barrel. Do you have any shops you would recommend?
wooo DUCK!
Great video i have a pre war Colt all original and in a few weeks picking up a 1944 all original Ithaca. A few years ago nighthawk started refabin new Colt classics as several articles in combat handguns magazine. Being i have 2 Classics one will be a WW- 2 clone and the other a national match from post WW-2 . Back in the day as I've seen in magazines soldiers had their wives or a pinup girl engraved on ivory grips. My best friend and i had birthday at the range this week and we shot our 1911's and his WW-2 M1A Garand in 30-06 !! Yes i got hammer bite!! 😮😅
Very cool! My first custom 1911 was a Springfield Armory professional model.
Just saw the video you were in on 1911 syndicate. Dude you are awesome and funny I’m subscribing 🤙🏼
Great video
Looks like a masterpiece
Beautiful pistol….I love that finish.
Pretty cool 😎 👍👍
Brother, you are the best! 😂😂
HAHA, well, thank you!
You definitely did that one up right nice 👍🏻👍🏻
The Fist of the Republic!!
Right? Wtf is he talking about? Fist of democracy? Gftoh
Hey everyone I'm actually fixing to purchase my first 1911, my uncle says that as far as cost and value he says I should consider a Dan Wesson, my question is how much should I invest in something like this?
What is the price point you're looking to invest in?
@@1776_duck I'm thinking 1,500 should be enough right?
@@G.W-01 Sure! Dan Wesson is who I would look at in that price range!
@@G.W-01Dan Wesson Valors can be had in that price range. Probably going to be the stainless steel models and not the duty treated ones, but keep your eye out. I have a couple used 9mm Valors coming in, one is SS and would be in your price range.
She’s a looker. Ya done good sir.
I have a colt from 1919 all beat up, i wonder how much it would cost me for a job like that.
@@Hidalguense this cost $3100 in 2020/21, I imagine it’s more now.
Boom, what a beautiful piece. I love those pre-war wide hammers, And the grip stocks on that 1911 are so sexy they could make babies all by themselves. Thank you for sharing
Eli, you should put ring hammer on that. It would amazing with a Ring Hammer.
Oh, absolutely not, ring hammers are only appropriate on post-1945 guns.
I can verify that this statement is 100% accurate.
Awesome pistol
6:10 No son ! Don’t apologize for nothing you did wrong. This is what old dogs call story tellin. Have at it 💯
Great video my colt1911 is Dat 1913 and shoot Great
Lost me with all the rabbit trails!
Hoot to shoot needs to be on some Alchemy or 1776Duck swag
😅 what kind of friends do you have , that you wear a gun to their wedding 😅
This is America, isn’t it?
The cool kind.
Harrison parts.
I really enjoy these videos, just discovered them. Coming from an emotionally attached gun owner lol
You and my son inspired me to recently purchase a 1911. I have not owned one since the early 90s. I grew up shooting my dads Remington Rand. Then in AFOSI we carried modified WWII 1911s. The slide and barrel were cut to a Commander length. The grip was cut to an Officer's model length. And, they added an ambidextrous safety. Mine was also a Remington Rand. That pistol went everywhere with me from Bolling AFB, to Yongsan Army Garrison, and finally to Lackland AFB. I loved it. I bought a Colt Officer's model during that time frame. Ramble on Duck! It is entertaining. th-cam.com/video/LzGBQerkvWs/w-d-xo.html
It's not like today when men are being women. 😂😂😂 love it.
Excellent gun and story, bud.
"Not, ya' know, men bein' women sometimes like it is today."😆
I think that your sidearm should be exemplary because you need it to get to a long gun, and yours is sick. I’m looking for an excuse to spend the money on a Nighthawk
The fist of democracy? I think you've lost the plot, sir. And by sir I mean...
just a joke, don't think about it too hard.
@@1776_duck that's a relief. Thx for clarifying.
@1776_duck
It was a great statement, and MOST of us got it and loved it.
😂 Man, I enjoy hearing your commentary and views on America and topics.. You’re a young dude but you sound like a Gen X’r like myself … You had me rolling with that “back when a man was a man and NOT maybe a woman, in America” … 😂Ain’t that the mother fudgin truth…
