Weekend with Ken Hackathorn; Episode 1: Wilson's LE Comp
It's no secret I am a MASSIVE fan of comp pistols- but that wasn't always the case. I picked up this LE Comp from a great friend of mine, Paul, who warned me about how well these old comp guns shot. I quickly confirmed his warnings and became a bit obsessed with the LE Comp. On today's episode, I visited with my good friend Ken Hackathorn to talk about the LE Comp and how trends are always cyclical- especially in the gun world.

New Gun Day!
มุมมอง 6K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
There really are few highs that compare to getting a new firearm. It's honestly an addiction. This week- Alex Greenman from @45.automatic on IG heads to North Carolina in search of Duke's Mayonnaise, Cheerwine, and GUNS. We got some new things, passed on some cool things, but had a good time all around!

During WW2, the American manufacturing effort pulled together to mobilize for war in a way no other country has done before or since. Because of this, we see firearms from civilian manufacturers like GM, Rockola, and Remington Rand.

In a world dominated by Euro-Trash 9mm, we as Americans have lost our way when it comes to non-.45 ACP handgun cartridges. We had it SO right in 1929 with the Super .38- so why don't we see this cartridge anymore?

“As someone who has always been drawn to older guns, I have been searching my entire life for ‘the perfect 1911’. This journey would send me across the four corners of the web, searching high and low for a gun that spoke to me in a way that appeased both my love of hard, heavy range days and my vintage emotion simultaneously. A gun that embodies the timeless, classic atmosphere, but with some o...

Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless, .32 ACP- My Second Favorite Handgun
มุมมอง 6K3 หลายเดือนก่อน
It would only make sense that my second favorite handgun is a John Moses Browning design, but what doesn't is the fact it's essentially a "sub compact". For those that don't know me, I absolutely hate "small" handguns- unless they were designed by JMB. The Colt's Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless, exudes class, sex appeal, and is an enjoyable gun to shoot. Let's walk down a brief overview of some of...
Alchemy Custom Weaponry Quantico- It's "Gangster"
มุมมอง 13K4 หลายเดือนก่อน
It's exciting to finally be posting a video with a gun built by the company I work for. Alchemy Custom Weaponry is one of the premier semi-custom 1911 makers in the world and it is an honor to be employed by such a patriotic company. With that said, you better believe this is a biased video, as I obviously work for the company, but have also been a fan since long before working here. The AGW Qu...

The SAA and the 1911 are equally some the most important pistols of all time, love the 10mm round, beautiful pistol mr duck 🫡
Ecstacy of Gold, love it
No words, just straight 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Money tends to be the limiting factor in such decisions. 😂
My dream pistol. Don’t rub it in. 😂
Nicely done, Brother 😎😎🤠
That is a cool mix. Is it a separate cylinder, and what is its year of production

I have two LE comp guns fron that era, a .38 Super stamped Wilson Combat and a two-tone .45 built by the late Charlie Mills. Old times.
Beautiful, love the hard chrome frame and blued slide 🔥 Swenson's are awesome
N-frames! Yes! Model 19s are sissy guns.

Swensons...ahhhh. Do one of these for an Alchemy restomod, please. Bonus...and kinda deal breaker for me, if you can add a K-38 rear sight! I'd buy one like that. And add my Alchemy mammoth ivory grips I've been saving to it. :-)
I think saying gangster IS gangster and if you ain't down then you're nothin' but a wankster......
There you go kids, one of the legends… He don’t care if you have a light or not. These guys have learned the hard way. I would say if you have a light on your handgun, then you should also have one clipped to your pocket, don’t learn the hard way. Also he just said you WILL shoot better with a dot… BUT YOU HAVE TO TRAIN with it. So, if you have a dot and you haven’t even put 500 rounds minimum through it… then something is probably wrong. Thanks men!
Nobody needs him to tell us what we should be doing. thats the point. its called freedom. fudds need to move on and go back to yelling at kids to get off their lawn
That gun brings back memories. That was "The Gun to Have" when I started shooting USPSA in the late 80's. Back then it was a two year wait for one. One of the guys in my area, was a sponsored shooter for Wilson Combat and he let me try one out. Fantastic gun. Thanks for the video!

Why do you wear your watch backwards?
@@aaronbouchillon5541 I’m not sure, I always have.
Yes, top five wish list next. Assuming you can near it down. Also maybe some railed guns if possible. Great video!
@@johnbuntin7188 I like the idea of a top 5 “wish list” guns. Screen recording this comment now (so I remember)!
I am a single action revolver guy but I do want to get a few 1911 something blued get a little bit of engraving done on it and be able to beat the crap out of it what do you recommend rock island or ?
In the market now what would you get for 9mm 1911 now in the $800 - $1800 range?
Ken you don’t need a light on your gun hackathorn speaks. Not interested. Not one bit
Great video. I think Ken Hackathorn is great. You have got a new subscriber. At 70 years old I still shoot and carry only the 1911.
Try the HKS-A speed loaders, not the older ones, big difference. No rattling at all, none and they load perfectly even without training (tried my first the other day first time).
Wonderful stuff! Please keep making videos like this. We need to preserve 1911 history
Bro, great presentation of the material! But if you are talking about weapons and showing them, then be so kind as to have bright lighting! What can you see in this twilight??? I understand that all these halftones and the play of light are very much appreciated by videographers, but you are not filming yourself, but a weapon, and the viewer wants to look at the weapon better and preferably from larger angles.
Cool info 👍
Love to see it
Agree on the lights on guns. You kust show the baddies where you are....
Mike plaxco was one of the first in the development of the comp and made it popular too, won nationals in 1982, steel challenge and second chance all in 1982 with the plaxco comp
Glad to see the tactiturds haven’t run Ken off of TH-cam Completely. Good to hear from him again!
Hurry! We need episode 2!
Next week I think I’m posting a Milt Sparks video!
Great video Eli.
Thank you very much!
Amazing team up, I miss the Wilson combat videos with him and Bill. Keep the content going!
I also miss the Gun Guys episodes, which is why I decided I had to make my own!
Look forward to more! Treasure trove of information and history
Excellent conversation. Back in the day I worked part time in a gun shop about an hour away from where Ken lived in Ohio. About once a year he would pop in and see what we had going on. The whole place came to a stop as we all would listen to Ken talk about guns. Watching this made me fondly remember those visits.
He is the King of Storytelling.
.45 super when
Man that must have been awesome to hang with a legend.
One of, if not THE best weekend of my life.
Yes elitists enjoying acting like everyone else is the problem. sounds fun
Shot Mickey Fowler s comped 38 supers way back when, like shooting a 22.
Alchemy’s new gun line…LE comp

Nice video I love 1911’s and people who really is famous on that platform if you interview Rob Leatham would be. Very interesting video hopefully one day it happens
Maybe one day!
Great video. Hopefully one day you can sit down and chat with Ken and Bill Wilson. Between videos like this and Wilson’s The Gun Guys, it’s awesome to document this history before it’s too late.
That is the main reason I am doing these videos- to document as much history as possible!
early ipsc was real guns with real stages .. i quit in 1990 as the b/s game guns and stages that were never going to be real ..
Yes I wish Uspsa would make the stages how they were in the 1980s in the hay days real props, doors and walls even cars on the stage, now it just seems there all about the money
