The show runners either don't understand, or don't care, that Elves & Dwarves & Orcs are *not humans* with idiosyncrasies. From their perspectives, Elves are just pointy-eared humans; Dwarves are just short humans; Orcs are just ugly humans. They don't understand that if Celeborn *had* died, he would be waiting at the Halls of Mandos for Galadriel - & Galadriel would know that. It is not comparable to a modern humanist interpretation of marriage & love, where one can remarry without necessarily dishonouring their original vows: Elves don't live like humans do, & they don't die like humans do, so they don't love like humans either. The people running this series have no actual understanding of Tolkien's cosmology.
Artistically-never mind the Tolkien connection for the moment-this is the fundamental problem with this show: it isn't fantasy. The only time that it even attempts to transport the audience to Faërie is with the very artistic establishing shots of Númenor, etc. But everyone living there is an ordinary human. Ordinary people like you and me are not wholly 'good' nor 'evil'; good people do bad things, and for complex reasons; and bad people retain virtues like loyalty or love of family. And so these fantastic characters, who should be archetypes, and speak to _parts_ of our nature (for good or ill) are flattened to ordinary people speaking ordinary speech. In the end, it's just another superhero movie wearing fanciful medieval clothing.
Very good points! To add to that, or take your idea back to its basics, elves and dwarves are completely different species to humans! Tolkien goes out of his way to describe the elves as something similar to mythical faeries! They’re nothing like humans and this show is garbage.

Honestly a hug to pass the brooch would have been much more effective especially if he would have never taken the brooch off. So the audience would see the brooch pre hug and we would then see it missing post hug I also wondered (among other things) why she left the brooch. Since it’s elven made, I would have thought it’d be super valuable

That's a good point about victimhood, it's the modern version of plot armour. As long as you are a victim of something that gives you full moral authority to do whatever seems right to you regardless of how bad it is, and no one can hold you accountable, because.. victim. They've just mobilised that idea to help them portray 'evil' because they want people to sympathise with the 'evil' characters, and make it morally acceptable/grey for them to commit evil acts. Therefore Sauron isn't actually evil in modern 'lotr', he is just misunderstood. Same with the orcs, same with Adar. But the end result is that the supposed 'good' characters end up looking more close to our idea of evil because they are so self centered that they show no care for others. Basically, they royally f up the morality of classic lotr.

I don't believe for 1 second, that orcs would have burials. Orcs would celebrate the dead by eating them. Using their bones as armour. Neither would orcs allow a parley, but even if they did and you refused their request. Do you honestly believe an orc encampment would allow you to walk freely out with horses alive 😂 This show just gets worse. it's comedy. How bad it is.
literally called the "people of hate" multiple times in Tolkien's stories. They hate each other and everything else, undoubtedly even their offsprings, which is exactly why we do not see a single good deed from an orc in 50000 pages of lore. We see them blind Gwindor's brother and then hew his arms and legs before killing him in front of his brother. We see them pin Finduilas with a spear to a tree just because. We see them do unspeakable cruelty just to entertain themselves. Imagine an army of torturers and serial killers, that is what orcs are. Elves and men and dwarves are literally terrified of getting caught to an orc band in the wilderness because of what they would do to them. There is no reasoning with an orc unless you are willing to negotiate with the lives of many others to spare yours. ROP writers: Orcs have families and are oppressed. Travesty, nothing more.

It may be possible the Elrond lead the charge for the simple fact that he had to kiss Galadriel. Had Gilga-daddy led the charge, Adars psychic plan of revealing Galadriel would have been foiled because Gilg-daddy wouldn't have stopped the charge. Adar knew Elrond would and he played the script perfectly.

I have an Amazon account because of cheap shipping and I order stuff from Amazon frequently. That's probably the majority of people who have Amazon to begin with. The worst part of Gil Galad showing up, leaving then showing up again is that if he was there at the meeting. He would have complained about not killing Sauron to which Addar would have said he’s here. Why they didn’t then team up and kill Sauron I don’t understand. Like fundamentally don’t understand. They show the orcs have one fear and are ‘decent people’ but they won’t tell people that’s all they are doing? All the elves want is the end of Sauron. Why wouldn’t they team up!
The show will finish with no Celebrian. But I'd wager 50/50 around the end of episode 8 season 5, Celeborn will come riding in, saying "I've been held in an orc dungeon all this time, now you've defeated the enemy, I'm free..." Then of course we cut to Nori and Gandalf founding "The Shire".
I am more and more convinced that Adar is going to be Celeborn. They've given him an elven ring for some reason. It drives back corruption. He'll go back to being a regualr elf.
Very good point. The friction between those big blocks of stone weighed down by all this stone above them would be enormous. Even if they could brace this 'ravager' machine well enough to prevent it from being pulled towards the wall, it would probably end up snapping in half. Even if it did manage to pull some stones out, its parts would need frequent replacement as ropes would snap and wooden beams would crack after a while. The logistics of constructing big siege weapons that would actually threaten serious fortifications like these were enormous for a society and an army at a medieval sort of level of organisation. They would need days or weeks to construct them with lots of mishaps on the way. And smaller, portable artillery would not be able to threaten those fortifications, only enemy fighters. Which also reminds me of the unthinkable feat of transporting all those trebuches and catapults from Mordor to Eregion!! A medieval style army would build them on site, not transport them for hundreds of miles. And if they did transport something it would be in pieces, maybe of the most technically challenging parts, and then assembled on site, using some additional local material for construction. Great conquering armies of antiquity and the Middle ages made things on site. Alexander didn't transport a host of catapults to Tyre, Hannibal didn't cross the Alps with a bunch of siege machines tagging along, Julius Caesar didn't run around Gaul with his famous super wall breaker. The Arabs and the Mongols used local artisans and local materials to besiege cities. And those sieges usually took weeks or months. But we can't have that here because the plot needs for this to happen in a day. At least in the lore, Eregion was besieged by the army of Sauron himself and he had the One Ring already, so there were supernatural forces in the mix. As someone mentioned, the easiest thing for the Orcs would be to blockade the city and then build tunnels underneath the walls and then set fire on the wooden supports and collapse them. They have already shown to be very proficient at tunnel building and it would fit with their style of warfare: a mix of trickery, surprise and ambush and use of a large manpower for relatively low-tech but well-tested solutions. The use of High-tech, convoluted siege engines would fit more with a technologically advanced society like Numenor. And don't get me started on the ridiculous power of those siege engines. Not only do they cause enormous destruction to city buildings far beyond the city walls, even reaching Celembribor's forge on this enormous tower on the other side of the city, but they can actually cause part of the huge rock wall behind the city to collapse enough to dam the river. Have the writers seen the rocks a real rebuchet can throw? This should have been like throwing pebbles at a brick wall with your hand - you may cause some scratches but you won't make the wall collapse. Unless Adar is now a geologist and he found the "weak spot" of the rock formation. To be honest, Peter Jackson made many unrealistic and frankly ridiculous choices in how he depicted battles in his movies, but at least most of them were in the Hobbit, in the battle of five armies, with the 'twirly-wirlies' (or whatever they were called) to the Elves jumping over the protection of the dwarven shield wall to fight the horde of Orcs (and negating the value of said shield wall in the process). These writers have copied the worst bits from the Peter Jackson movies and clearly don't know anything about historical siege warfare. I think they wanted an equivalent to the wolf-head battering ram (Grom?) from the siege of Minas Tirith, something scary and destructive. But that was a simple machine, just a big trunk with a metal head suspended from a swing and moved by the manpower of trolls. And it was used against the gate, not against a 3 meter thick wall. Anyway...rant over.
The "we should fight for our friends" commentary was referenced earlier in the season when Narvi established the Doors of Durin with Celebrimbor. Basically, Celebrimbor came to the dwarves and offered a solution to their problems with the rings, and I guess in theory open in-arms with friendship, which is why they established the Doors of Durin. The problem is, though, that Durin IV specifically calls it out--"Sauron is manipulating us to try and control us". Er, well, wasn't that done in cooperation WITH THE ELVES?! Shouldn't you be angry and Celebrimbor for giving you this cursed object that turned your father evil? That's the problem with how they handled the rings being corrupting SO QUICKLY. This would make far more sense had it simply solved the problems in Kazadum for now, and they're in open friendship at the moment. But it also means less screentime for the dwarves because nothing is happening with the dwarves, so they have to have Durin III go crazy sooner from the power of the ring. The other option, of course, would be having the dwarves having a LONG friendly relationship with Eregion, which they had in the books. They were friends for a long time, with Celebrimbor and Narvi both being very close friends. Elrond was never friends with the dwarves, it was Celebrimbor and the elven smiths who were. This would also make way more sense in context, but instead they placed Elrond into that role. So we have a "rushed" friendship between elves and dwarves literally happening this season, and the whole thing was orchestrated by Sauron to forge rings from Mythril.
"she mentioned she's still married" She said her husband (Celeborn) ran off to war and never returning (implying she thinks he's dead). In Tolkien lore she's 100% still married, though. Not only did Celeborn not die in the lore, but even if he DID die, he was reborn in the Halls of Mandos and so she would be reunited by returning to Valinor/Aman. Which, notably, her brother Finrod would ALSO be there. Which she should know. So she shouldn't be desiring go to on a roaring rampage of revenge for her brother's death. The showrunners invented this plotline with Galadriel for failing to realizing who she is. Now, some elves HAVE gone on revenge plots due to their family members being harmed, so this does happen. Dying certainly does have to be painful, but its also the emotional toll it takes on you. Eladdin and Elrohir, who were left out of the LOTR films for some reason, have a revenge plotline against orcs because orcs one time kidnapped and brutally tortured their mother... Celebrian (who doesn't exist in this show). Celebrian was so damaged by this she returned to Valinor to heal. (In other versions of the tale she's out right killed, but I think this is the main plotline explained in The Silmarillion and maybe the Appendices.) The different, however, is that Eladdin and Elrohir are fairly young for elves, at probably around 1000-1500 years or so. Galadriel is already over 3000 years old. If it was Celebrian going on a revenge streak, while lore inaccurate (Celebrian is clearly shown to be an elegant and beautiful elven maiden princess, not some sort of warrior princess), it would at least make more sense due to her being a young immature elf.
The theory that the "beast" they're talking about being the Watcher in the Water is REALLY stupid and makes NO sense. Because Narvi is clearly discussing a threat to the entirety of Kazadum; that isn't the "Watcher in the Water". I don't think that's what Disa reacted to, either. The Balrog just caused the water to shake when it roared out. The Balrog is powerful and dangerous enough to destroy Kazadum, but the Watcher in the Water... requires water. So it couldn't possible destroy Kazadum on its own. It literally cannot be the Watcher in the Water that's being teased here. (Plus Season 1 straight up showed the Balrog, and that's also what Sauron saw in the flames.)
@@jrconway3 Yeah, Celebrian as a MC would make a better story. It could let them have the Elrond romance, have Galadrial in a suppotive role, even have some parenting friction. We know very little about Celebrian so she's a hole in the Lore to fill.

I think the "darkness" in the mines is the Balrog. In the ridiculous scene where they "revealed" it, Disa is singing to find her little orb and the water vibrates sympathetically, but the Balrog roars back causing the water to vibrate differently.
The dwarves are pretty generous in how they’re willing to sacrifice an entire army for a dude they wouldn’t even allow in their city 10 minutes earlier
The wooden machine that can pull chunks out of a ten-food-thick (according to the script) curtain wall with tons of stone above reminds me of the first episode of Six Million Dollar Man, which I saw after learning a bit of physics. Steve reaches up and with his superhuman arm, pulls a grate out of the ceiling. "Wait," I said, "Shouldn't he just end up doing a one-armed pull-up?" The engine simply isn't massive enough (and isn't braced) to do anything but pull itself towards the wall. If such a machine were practical, you can bet that it would have been used historically.
Love how those horses have heavy fake armor on their necks, backs and flanks ... where all it does is weigh them down ... and absolutely NO armor in the front, where the orc spears are pointed. Brilliant costume design!
Granted, it wasn't to ROP's extent but in the first "Gladiator" film they do have a few horses charging downhill through the woods in that initial battle scene against the barbarians. Maximius himself leads the charge shouting "Roma victor!" while om horseback
It is actually depressing and disheartening to watch this show, knowing how hard I work every day for the money I take home after taxes. To then know all the money spent on writing and filming this crap is insane. They should have just lit the money on fire and live streamed it while dancing around the fire with cringey woke signage and face paint chanting the Acolyte's greatest lines while simultaneously kicking puppies and slapping kids.
In a real medieval battle seeing a caged captive you actually want to rescue would be a godsend. Its like a superior nfl offensive line getting excellent push. The horses are pushing the enemy line back past the cage and no way guy will stab the captive over fighting for his life
One thing I would comment the writers messed up with that line when Adar said to Elrond about Melian the Valar? seems like writers didnt know Tolkien lore? also Valar is plural , the singular is Vala, and Melian is not a Vala, she is a Maia ( singular form of Maiar), which is a lesser being than Valar. if you wanted to know Maiar, Sauron is one of them, just like Gandalf, fallen maiar like Balrogs and the like
The orc not only sees the broach.. he assures Adar he is unarmed..implying a search -yet Elrond has the dang ring around his neck! Why is the ring even there?! None of this makes sense!
Invade Novgorod instead. That will at least get us a movie with great battle scenes to a magnificent score (and one that actually shows people forging weapons and armor).
My guess, Prince will stop king from releasing the Bigdog, but then we cut to another fake/out of it "still being awake", and that confrontation will actually happen season 3.
Gil Galad and Elendil injure Sauron severely in the books, at the cost of their own lives, allowing Isildur to sweep in and cut the ring off his finger. Neither ROP Gil Galad or Isildur (who ig has time to “develop?) convince anyone that they’re up to this task

All the Tolkien TH-camrs are done with this show except for 1 Nerd Of The Rings loved this episode and is shilling so hard its really quite sad 😂. This show is an absolute joke of a disaster 😅.
How did they come to a hard stop? Now what would have been hilarious is if they came to a hard stop, flew over their horse's heads, hit the city wall, and make a big hole. Thereby showing Adar and the orcs how it SHOULD be done. Instead Galadriel is in a cage. Might I point out that the cage is probably where she should have been throughout the entire season 1 and 2. That would have saved a lot of crap and pain for the viewers. Plus the trebuchets, how are they reaching almost legendary distances to chip a bit off the entire mountain? Are they like Exocet missiles? Out in the Gulf we used to say that you can see an Exocet coming for hundreds of miles, but can do f**k all about it. And treating with Adar, no. Elrond sucks, as a soldier I wouldn't follow him to the toilet and with Galadriel I would be "Meh do it, cut her tongue, then maybe we'll all get a bit of peace. She can be the Silent Lady of the Wood." Even through death Elves remain married. So even if Celeborn was dead, his fëa would have flown to Mandos and he is re-embodied by now. So Galadriel is still married.Elves bond and marry for life. And through death, the bond remains.
They've given up pretending to be doing anymore than using Tolkien's character and place names. Just a matter of time until we see a lingering gay kiss between the Blue Wizards.
I don't think I've ever seen such a motorically written show, not Acolyte, not Kenobi, not Willow, no matter how laughable Disney productions are, all pale in comparison to the Turds of Power. Well done! Clap!
Just my 2 cents, Its been pointed out in social media and by other youtubers, that battles are just subpar, Yes the visuals are great i dont have doubt about it, but it seems like the showrunners just have no clue about battle strategy at all, the trebuchet that can shoot that far and destroy a massive rocky mountain to dam the river is just beyond ridiculous, if its really that powerful that it can blast a rocky mountains like that, why not just use it to the Eregion walls instead? also the idea of using ravager to pull the walls apart is silly, I think they just wanted to have something original and not copying Peter Jackson's LoTR but in all medieval and fantasy epic story, they could have just used a battle ram and go straight to the gate instead of trying to break the walls, not to mention when the river is drained, its muddy and it will snare any infantry and those orcs will struggle to push that ravager into the wall. I have noticed Amazon is quite sneaky as well in season 1, Eregion city doesnt have fortification walls surrounding it, it just buildings towers, and beaches, ( you can google its everywhere), and the river is pretty wide too, like more than half a mile just by looking at the image and now in season 2 the city suddenly have walls all around and the river width seems to be reduced especially on teh side where now you could see those massive rocky mountains. I just think Amazon assume the audience wont notice it, but thanks the internet, many notice it that too. Other battle strategy like cavalry charge is just beyond silly, that cavalry charge is actually quite epic to watch at the beginning, but then it stopped midway because Galadriel is there, why can't the cavalry just charge to the side around it and just steamroll the orcs? oh an not to mention in the beginning of the charge there is Gilga Daddy and Elrond , but why Elrond lead the charge? not the High Elven King instead? and then a parley?? During the parley, Gilga daddy is no where to be seen where was he, I wonder? Only Elrond and Adar instead. I find this is probbaly just a failure in editing becasue Gilga Daddy probably shouldnt be in the first charge and later he came during the battle near the wall, because if you paid attention later on during teh fight when Gilga daddy arrived, Elrond was asking why the high king is here in battle as its not save, if Gilga Daddy wasnt there in teh first cavalry charge , all of those battle scene make more sense but sadly it didn't.
This show is hot garbage, but I do still like Adar. At least there is some mystery there. But yeah, why is he being such a gracious host when Elrond is standing there telling him to F off in his own tent? With one other guy? Too forgiving when he shouldn't be, which likely means he'll meet a stupid end when he should have better. Ugh.

Cheap flimsy walls can be yanked dwon by a lot of graple hooks but not massive stone walls. Considering they're using torsion catapults, the odds of them knocking down the wall were slim. It woudl take a long time of bombarding. Battering the gates of seige ladders is the only thing that would work. The daming the river with rubble isn't going to make a dam that lasts long. The river behidn it will overflow it. Water will be peentratign throughthe rubble, too. In a few hours, a flood woudl be sweeping through and killing all those orcs. Taking this city is not something that can be done fast wtih the orc forces. Even more hillarious, the original establishing shots for the city show it not having walls. The walls just magically appeared this season.

Costructive criticism is useless because these people already know what they want to make and will not listen to you and me as fans, they actually hate the source material and tolkien fans in general, they wanted to take the story and change it to how they see the world. Making a good show would have been extremely easy, just follow the source material, a way smarter person already wrote everything for them they only had to adapt it like Peter Jackson did. There's no rooting for anything here. Watch the many interviews and see what they actually say and how they brag that they're changing the Tolkien world.
I disagree, I think they "love" the books, but also they think that a good show "keeps the audience guessing" so they have to make it all different. - Moreso however, is their pathetic fan-fiction approach to the changes, - like some total douche being given a star trek show and insisting that Spock and Kirk are in a gay tension romance, because "wow, imagine that!" They honestly think their fan fiction is "good". And no, I don't think they understand the books/stories. They just love them because "battles" and because "imagination" and "reputation". Themes are lost on them. They are not credited writers. But we know they only got the job because JJ Abrams phoned Amazon on their behalf.
@@JackChurchill101 I don't think anyone who was a LotR fan hoped RoP to be a failure, but that doesn't mean that being slavishly optimistic is to anyone's benefit either. LotR isn't great because it's set in Middle Earth. It's great because it's a well crafted story. RoP is just a badly crafted story, regardless of its setting. There's no reason why anyone should be rooting for something to succeed just because a gigantic corporation spent hundreds of millions of dollars to buy the rights to make a series that is constructed in the same setting, especially since the construction is so shoddy on so many different levels. I can understand the appeal of being a contrarian to a stance on a side of a perceived culture war, but you're missing the mark if you think Amazon deserves any credit or support for this project. I think misplaced optimism isn't any better than misplaced pessimism in this case. You make the statement: "I mean we all win if something is good" but if we are to take that thesis as having merit, we also have to accept the inverse can also be the case, that 'we all lose if something is bad'. And with RoP... we all lost.
This episode is so far the worst for me, it seems showrunners are just very clueless, I also think they seem to have editing error with battle scene, especially with that cavalry charge . do you remember before the charge started, we could see Elrond and High Elven King Gilgalad? sorry I mean Gilga daddy? and then cavalry charged occured and then it stopped which I think is just stupid because those horse riders behind the front flank will just trample on them..but still they managed to stop nonetheless because strong woman Guyladriel is there....and then the most stupid part a parley....where we could see Elrond and Adar tried to negotiate......my question is didnt we have Gilga daddy in the beginning before the charge? So where the hell is he? suddenly he is just disappear?? if he was there in the beginning he should have led the charge not Elrond and he should be there with Elrond and Adar during the parley, but nope he is not there, and then after that parley, they resumed the fight and still no Gilga daddy.....not until its night time, then Gilga daddy appeared with some soldiers with him and did you see Elrond's reaction? he was surprised and asked why High King is here in battlefield? which is quite understandable because its dangerous....so all of these didnt make sense at all which led me to believe they most likely did some stupid error in editing that scene. Gilga daddy shouldnt be there in the first cavalry charge. If he isnt there, then the latter scene where he appeared at night to help Elrond and the troops will make much more sense...This episode is just made by some amateurs who have no clue about battle tactics and strategy. Also thanks to internet , I could see how Amazon is really messed up big time by sneakily changing the topography and the looks of Eregion, first season city have no walls around it, second season the city have walls lol....also season 1, city is surrounded by a much wider river with no massive rocky cliff mountains on the side, while in season 2, teh city is surrounded by much narrower river on teh side where the rocky mountains sit, so that Amazon could do their ridiculous scene of op trebuchet that can shoot for miles and destroyed a rocky mountains to dam the river. If that;s the case wouldn't it better to just use that trebuchet to smash the walls, I mean it can destroy mountains of giant rocks, so it would be strong enough to penetrate the walls right? lol no need stupid ravager, also that scene with asian elf taking like multiple arrows is just trying to copy cat Boromir scene which I think is not necessary because no one cares about her, as we didnt get her backstory unlike Boromir.
Sometimes it looks like all these nonsensical, dumb, outrageous things were made for a reason. That uncontrollable rewriting the entire book for the script reminds me of communists, their fanatic style of revisionism and rewriting history. But the horrible quality of everything and in all directions, all this visual and verbal bs which inevitably attracts attention, causes a reaction, generates discussions - it seems like even negativity somehow benefits them. As a Tolkien fan, I just want the simpliest thing - an accurate, respectful, cinematic illustration of the original. Not a neo-marxist/woke version, nor a postmodernistic version. Sadly, looking at this modern Hollywood, we will not see something normal in the near future.
BTW, I appreciate this channel's creators for their adherence to Tolkien lore and how they find the logical fallacies of the RoP series. But maybe they should avoid social commentary because some of it is laughable. The line that "poverty doesn't cause crime, poverty gives you the ability to cause crime more easily" is one for the ages. It is very callous and shows a lot of ignorance, or maybe some sort of ideological blindness. Yes crime is a choice, but poverty will also make crime less of an abominable solution in comparison to the alternative of ongoing poverty and destitution. Poverty will lower that moral threshold that you have to cross to engage in crime. Yes, it is a choice and most people choose not to do it and prefer to work hard and honestly even if they are poor, and what happens? Most of them stay poor. Some people will improve their conditions and very few will actually become rich with honest hard work, but the majority will stay poor. Well, some poor people can't stand that, or don't have the moral and community support to avoid the lure of crime and engage in crime either because they want to get rich quick, or because it is prevalent where they live and it makes them part of a community or group, gives their life meaning. And most of those eventually end up dead or in prison. Of course, this is also an oversimplification that doesn't do the topic justice, which goes to show that it is too complicated to be written off with simplistic assertions. And there is of course moral depravity and crime in rich people, as they can use a lot of deceit and rule bending in order to maintain and increase their wealth, even when their activities are not strictly criminal by the letter of the law. But it is unfortunate to use the analogy of poverty and crime when speaking about the orcs. Makes me wonder if this TH-camr actually understands Tolkien. The orcs are not stand-ins for poor people who are criminals. Tolkien may have been an upper middle class social conservative, but he hates allegory and more than anything he is a Christian and he tells a moral tale. They represent absolute evil but maybe also the evil of moral depravity in humans. Tolkien's evil characters are a personification of a situation of moral decline, hence they also destroy nature and everything he considered beautiful in the world, whilst their works are all tainted. Tolkien's writings are a sort of Christian romanticism. To consider the orcs analogous to poor people engaging in crime is some sort of American, ultra-right, libertarian ideological interpretation which is very far from what Tolkien was trying to say. I am not saying the above because I am a fan of the show, I find the show deplorable. But this particular line offended me so I had to register my objection.

Having not watched this rubbish i have to ask was the cage that Galadriel in made of metal? If so we can assume it's fairly strong and so likely she wouldn't die during the cavalry charge... So why do the elves stop? Just continue with the charge and kill all the orcs and Adar and then just release her. Job done.
Orcs had a spear on her neck. But it was stupid, horses stopped 2 feet away from them and they stopped in an inch so in normal reaction time if they were to kill her they would have.

From their perspectives, Elves are just pointy-eared humans; Dwarves are just short humans; Orcs are just ugly humans.
They don't understand that if Celeborn *had* died, he would be waiting at the Halls of Mandos for Galadriel - & Galadriel would know that. It is not comparable to a modern humanist interpretation of marriage & love, where one can remarry without necessarily dishonouring their original vows: Elves don't live like humans do, & they don't die like humans do, so they don't love like humans either.

Artistically-never mind the Tolkien connection for the moment-this is the fundamental problem with this show: it isn't fantasy. The only time that it even attempts to transport the audience to Faërie is with the very artistic establishing shots of Númenor, etc. But everyone living there is an ordinary human. Ordinary people like you and me are not wholly 'good' nor 'evil'; good people do bad things, and for complex reasons; and bad people retain virtues like loyalty or love of family. And so these fantastic characters, who should be archetypes, and speak to _parts_ of our nature (for good or ill) are flattened to ordinary people speaking ordinary speech. In the end, it's just another superhero movie wearing fanciful medieval clothing.

That's a good point about victimhood, it's the modern version of plot armour. As long as you are a victim of something that gives you full moral authority to do whatever seems right to you regardless of how bad it is, and no one can hold you accountable, because.. victim. They've just mobilised that idea to help them portray 'evil' because they want people to sympathise with the 'evil' characters, and make it morally acceptable/grey for them to commit evil acts. Therefore Sauron isn't actually evil in modern 'lotr', he is just misunderstood. Same with the orcs, same with Adar. But the end result is that the supposed 'good' characters end up looking more close to our idea of evil because they are so self centered that they show no care for others. Basically, they royally f up the morality of classic lotr.

literally called the "people of hate" multiple times in Tolkien's stories. They hate each other and everything else, undoubtedly even their offsprings, which is exactly why we do not see a single good deed from an orc in 50000 pages of lore.
We see them blind Gwindor's brother and then hew his arms and legs before killing him in front of his brother. We see them pin Finduilas with a spear to a tree just because. We see them do unspeakable cruelty just to entertain themselves. Imagine an army of torturers and serial killers, that is what orcs are.
Elves and men and dwarves are literally terrified of getting caught to an orc band in the wilderness because of what they would do to them. There is no reasoning with an orc unless you are willing to negotiate with the lives of many others to spare yours.

It may be possible the Elrond lead the charge for the simple fact that he had to kiss Galadriel. Had Gilga-daddy led the charge, Adars psychic plan of revealing Galadriel would have been foiled because Gilg-daddy wouldn't have stopped the charge. Adar knew Elrond would and he played the script perfectly.

The worst part of Gil Galad showing up, leaving then showing up again is that if he was there at the meeting. He would have complained about not killing Sauron to which Addar would have said he’s here. Why they didn’t then team up and kill Sauron I don’t understand. Like fundamentally don’t understand. They show the orcs have one fear and are ‘decent people’ but they won’t tell people that’s all they are doing? All the elves want is the end of Sauron. Why wouldn’t they team up!
The show will finish with no Celebrian. But I'd wager 50/50 around the end of episode 8 season 5, Celeborn will come riding in, saying "I've been held in an orc dungeon all this time, now you've defeated the enemy, I'm free..."
Then of course we cut to Nori and Gandalf founding "The Shire".
I am more and more convinced that Adar is going to be Celeborn. They've given him an elven ring for some reason. It drives back corruption. He'll go back to being a regualr elf.

Barding in fantasy stories is largely for show and it's worth in a historical context is largely dubious, so fair play to them.

Very good point. The friction between those big blocks of stone weighed down by all this stone above them would be enormous. Even if they could brace this 'ravager' machine well enough to prevent it from being pulled towards the wall, it would probably end up snapping in half. Even if it did manage to pull some stones out, its parts would need frequent replacement as ropes would snap and wooden beams would crack after a while.
The logistics of constructing big siege weapons that would actually threaten serious fortifications like these were enormous for a society and an army at a medieval sort of level of organisation. They would need days or weeks to construct them with lots of mishaps on the way. And smaller, portable artillery would not be able to threaten those fortifications, only enemy fighters.
Which also reminds me of the unthinkable feat of transporting all those trebuches and catapults from Mordor to Eregion!! A medieval style army would build them on site, not transport them for hundreds of miles. And if they did transport something it would be in pieces, maybe of the most technically challenging parts, and then assembled on site, using some additional local material for construction.
Great conquering armies of antiquity and the Middle ages made things on site. Alexander didn't transport a host of catapults to Tyre, Hannibal didn't cross the Alps with a bunch of siege machines tagging along, Julius Caesar didn't run around Gaul with his famous super wall breaker. The Arabs and the Mongols used local artisans and local materials to besiege cities. And those sieges usually took weeks or months. But we can't have that here because the plot needs for this to happen in a day. At least in the lore, Eregion was besieged by the army of Sauron himself and he had the One Ring already, so there were supernatural forces in the mix.
As someone mentioned, the easiest thing for the Orcs would be to blockade the city and then build tunnels underneath the walls and then set fire on the wooden supports and collapse them. They have already shown to be very proficient at tunnel building and it would fit with their style of warfare: a mix of trickery, surprise and ambush and use of a large manpower for relatively low-tech but well-tested solutions.
The use of High-tech, convoluted siege engines would fit more with a technologically advanced society like Numenor.
And don't get me started on the ridiculous power of those siege engines. Not only do they cause enormous destruction to city buildings far beyond the city walls, even reaching Celembribor's forge on this enormous tower on the other side of the city, but they can actually cause part of the huge rock wall behind the city to collapse enough to dam the river. Have the writers seen the rocks a real rebuchet can throw? This should have been like throwing pebbles at a brick wall with your hand - you may cause some scratches but you won't make the wall collapse. Unless Adar is now a geologist and he found the "weak spot" of the rock formation.
To be honest, Peter Jackson made many unrealistic and frankly ridiculous choices in how he depicted battles in his movies, but at least most of them were in the Hobbit, in the battle of five armies, with the 'twirly-wirlies' (or whatever they were called) to the Elves jumping over the protection of the dwarven shield wall to fight the horde of Orcs (and negating the value of said shield wall in the process). These writers have copied the worst bits from the Peter Jackson movies and clearly don't know anything about historical siege warfare.
I think they wanted an equivalent to the wolf-head battering ram (Grom?) from the siege of Minas Tirith, something scary and destructive. But that was a simple machine, just a big trunk with a metal head suspended from a swing and moved by the manpower of trolls. And it was used against the gate, not against a 3 meter thick wall.

The "we should fight for our friends" commentary was referenced earlier in the season when Narvi established the Doors of Durin with Celebrimbor. Basically, Celebrimbor came to the dwarves and offered a solution to their problems with the rings, and I guess in theory open in-arms with friendship, which is why they established the Doors of Durin.
The problem is, though, that Durin IV specifically calls it out--"Sauron is manipulating us to try and control us". Er, well, wasn't that done in cooperation WITH THE ELVES?! Shouldn't you be angry and Celebrimbor for giving you this cursed object that turned your father evil?
That's the problem with how they handled the rings being corrupting SO QUICKLY. This would make far more sense had it simply solved the problems in Kazadum for now, and they're in open friendship at the moment. But it also means less screentime for the dwarves because nothing is happening with the dwarves, so they have to have Durin III go crazy sooner from the power of the ring.
The other option, of course, would be having the dwarves having a LONG friendly relationship with Eregion, which they had in the books. They were friends for a long time, with Celebrimbor and Narvi both being very close friends. Elrond was never friends with the dwarves, it was Celebrimbor and the elven smiths who were. This would also make way more sense in context, but instead they placed Elrond into that role.
So we have a "rushed" friendship between elves and dwarves literally happening this season, and the whole thing was orchestrated by Sauron to forge rings from Mythril.

She said her husband (Celeborn) ran off to war and never returning (implying she thinks he's dead). In Tolkien lore she's 100% still married, though. Not only did Celeborn not die in the lore, but even if he DID die, he was reborn in the Halls of Mandos and so she would be reunited by returning to Valinor/Aman. Which, notably, her brother Finrod would ALSO be there. Which she should know. So she shouldn't be desiring go to on a roaring rampage of revenge for her brother's death.
The showrunners invented this plotline with Galadriel for failing to realizing who she is.
Now, some elves HAVE gone on revenge plots due to their family members being harmed, so this does happen. Dying certainly does have to be painful, but its also the emotional toll it takes on you. Eladdin and Elrohir, who were left out of the LOTR films for some reason, have a revenge plotline against orcs because orcs one time kidnapped and brutally tortured their mother... Celebrian (who doesn't exist in this show). Celebrian was so damaged by this she returned to Valinor to heal. (In other versions of the tale she's out right killed, but I think this is the main plotline explained in The Silmarillion and maybe the Appendices.)
The different, however, is that Eladdin and Elrohir are fairly young for elves, at probably around 1000-1500 years or so. Galadriel is already over 3000 years old. If it was Celebrian going on a revenge streak, while lore inaccurate (Celebrian is clearly shown to be an elegant and beautiful elven maiden princess, not some sort of warrior princess), it would at least make more sense due to her being a young immature elf.
The theory that the "beast" they're talking about being the Watcher in the Water is REALLY stupid and makes NO sense. Because Narvi is clearly discussing a threat to the entirety of Kazadum; that isn't the "Watcher in the Water". I don't think that's what Disa reacted to, either. The Balrog just caused the water to shake when it roared out.
The Balrog is powerful and dangerous enough to destroy Kazadum, but the Watcher in the Water... requires water. So it couldn't possible destroy Kazadum on its own. It literally cannot be the Watcher in the Water that's being teased here. (Plus Season 1 straight up showed the Balrog, and that's also what Sauron saw in the flames.)
@@jrconway3 Yeah, Celebrian as a MC would make a better story. It could let them have the Elrond romance, have Galadrial in a suppotive role, even have some parenting friction. We know very little about Celebrian so she's a hole in the Lore to fill.

I think the "darkness" in the mines is the Balrog. In the ridiculous scene where they "revealed" it, Disa is singing to find her little orb and the water vibrates sympathetically, but the Balrog roars back causing the water to vibrate differently.
The dwarves are pretty generous in how they’re willing to sacrifice an entire army for a dude they wouldn’t even allow in their city 10 minutes earlier
The wooden machine that can pull chunks out of a ten-food-thick (according to the script) curtain wall with tons of stone above reminds me of the first episode of Six Million Dollar Man, which I saw after learning a bit of physics. Steve reaches up and with his superhuman arm, pulls a grate out of the ceiling. "Wait," I said, "Shouldn't he just end up doing a one-armed pull-up?" The engine simply isn't massive enough (and isn't braced) to do anything but pull itself towards the wall. If such a machine were practical, you can bet that it would have been used historically.
One thing that bothers me is the scale of khazad dum. Khazad dum isn't a city. It's not a country. It's most akin to being it's own continent in size.
Love how those horses have heavy fake armor on their necks, backs and flanks ... where all it does is weigh them down ... and absolutely NO armor in the front, where the orc spears are pointed.

Granted, it wasn't to ROP's extent but in the first "Gladiator" film they do have a few horses charging downhill through the woods in that initial battle scene against the barbarians. Maximius himself leads the charge shouting "Roma victor!" while om horseback
It is actually depressing and disheartening to watch this show, knowing how hard I work every day for the money I take home after taxes. To then know all the money spent on writing and filming this crap is insane. They should have just lit the money on fire and live streamed it while dancing around the fire with cringey woke signage and face paint chanting the Acolyte's greatest lines while simultaneously kicking puppies and slapping kids.
In a real medieval battle seeing a caged captive you actually want to rescue would be a godsend. Its like a superior nfl offensive line getting excellent push. The horses are pushing the enemy line back past the cage and no way guy will stab the captive over fighting for his life
One thing I would comment the writers messed up with that line when Adar said to Elrond about Melian the Valar? seems like writers didnt know Tolkien lore? also Valar is plural , the singular is Vala, and Melian is not a Vala, she is a Maia ( singular form of Maiar), which is a lesser being than Valar. if you wanted to know Maiar, Sauron is one of them, just like Gandalf, fallen maiar like Balrogs and the like

How did they come to a hard stop? Now what would have been hilarious is if they came to a hard stop, flew over their horse's heads, hit the city wall, and make a big hole. Thereby showing Adar and the orcs how it SHOULD be done.
Instead Galadriel is in a cage. Might I point out that the cage is probably where she should have been throughout the entire season 1 and 2. That would have saved a lot of crap and pain for the viewers.
Plus the trebuchets, how are they reaching almost legendary distances to chip a bit off the entire mountain? Are they like Exocet missiles? Out in the Gulf we used to say that you can see an Exocet coming for hundreds of miles, but can do f**k all about it.
And treating with Adar, no. Elrond sucks, as a soldier I wouldn't follow him to the toilet and with Galadriel I would be "Meh do it, cut her tongue, then maybe we'll all get a bit of peace. She can be the Silent Lady of the Wood."
Even through death Elves remain married. So even if Celeborn was dead, his fëa would have flown to Mandos and he is re-embodied by now. So Galadriel is still married.Elves bond and marry for life. And through death, the bond remains.
They've given up pretending to be doing anymore than using Tolkien's character and place names. Just a matter of time until we see a lingering gay kiss between the Blue Wizards.

Just my 2 cents, Its been pointed out in social media and by other youtubers, that battles are just subpar, Yes the visuals are great i dont have doubt about it, but it seems like the showrunners just have no clue about battle strategy at all, the trebuchet that can shoot that far and destroy a massive rocky mountain to dam the river is just beyond ridiculous, if its really that powerful that it can blast a rocky mountains like that, why not just use it to the Eregion walls instead? also the idea of using ravager to pull the walls apart is silly, I think they just wanted to have something original and not copying Peter Jackson's LoTR but in all medieval and fantasy epic story, they could have just used a battle ram and go straight to the gate instead of trying to break the walls, not to mention when the river is drained, its muddy and it will snare any infantry and those orcs will struggle to push that ravager into the wall.
I have noticed Amazon is quite sneaky as well in season 1, Eregion city doesnt have fortification walls surrounding it, it just buildings towers, and beaches, ( you can google its everywhere), and the river is pretty wide too, like more than half a mile just by looking at the image and now in season 2 the city suddenly have walls all around and the river width seems to be reduced especially on teh side where now you could see those massive rocky mountains. I just think Amazon assume the audience wont notice it, but thanks the internet, many notice it that too.
Other battle strategy like cavalry charge is just beyond silly, that cavalry charge is actually quite epic to watch at the beginning, but then it stopped midway because Galadriel is there, why can't the cavalry just charge to the side around it and just steamroll the orcs? oh an not to mention in the beginning of the charge there is Gilga Daddy and Elrond , but why Elrond lead the charge? not the High Elven King instead? and then a parley?? During the parley, Gilga daddy is no where to be seen where was he, I wonder? Only Elrond and Adar instead. I find this is probbaly just a failure in editing becasue Gilga Daddy probably shouldnt be in the first charge and later he came during the battle near the wall, because if you paid attention later on during teh fight when Gilga daddy arrived, Elrond was asking why the high king is here in battle as its not save, if Gilga Daddy wasnt there in teh first cavalry charge , all of those battle scene make more sense but sadly it didn't.
This show is hot garbage, but I do still like Adar. At least there is some mystery there. But yeah, why is he being such a gracious host when Elrond is standing there telling him to F off in his own tent? With one other guy? Too forgiving when he shouldn't be, which likely means he'll meet a stupid end when he should have better. Ugh.

Cheap flimsy walls can be yanked dwon by a lot of graple hooks but not massive stone walls. Considering they're using torsion catapults, the odds of them knocking down the wall were slim. It woudl take a long time of bombarding. Battering the gates of seige ladders is the only thing that would work. The daming the river with rubble isn't going to make a dam that lasts long. The river behidn it will overflow it. Water will be peentratign throughthe rubble, too. In a few hours, a flood woudl be sweeping through and killing all those orcs. Taking this city is not something that can be done fast wtih the orc forces. Even more hillarious, the original establishing shots for the city show it not having walls. The walls just magically appeared this season.
The siege machine is so silly, it's the kind of thing you get when you let woke women writers try their hand at medieval siege warfare.
Could have shown them digging a tunnel and setting fire to the foundations.... Like in reality...

Costructive criticism is useless because these people already know what they want to make and will not listen to you and me as fans, they actually hate the source material and tolkien fans in general, they wanted to take the story and change it to how they see the world.
Making a good show would have been extremely easy, just follow the source material, a way smarter person already wrote everything for them they only had to adapt it like Peter Jackson did.

I disagree, I think they "love" the books, but also they think that a good show "keeps the audience guessing" so they have to make it all different. - Moreso however, is their pathetic fan-fiction approach to the changes, - like some total douche being given a star trek show and insisting that Spock and Kirk are in a gay tension romance, because "wow, imagine that!"
They honestly think their fan fiction is "good". And no, I don't think they understand the books/stories. They just love them because "battles" and because "imagination" and "reputation". Themes are lost on them. They are not credited writers.

@@JackChurchill101 I don't think anyone who was a LotR fan hoped RoP to be a failure, but that doesn't mean that being slavishly optimistic is to anyone's benefit either. LotR isn't great because it's set in Middle Earth. It's great because it's a well crafted story. RoP is just a badly crafted story, regardless of its setting. There's no reason why anyone should be rooting for something to succeed just because a gigantic corporation spent hundreds of millions of dollars to buy the rights to make a series that is constructed in the same setting, especially since the construction is so shoddy on so many different levels. I can understand the appeal of being a contrarian to a stance on a side of a perceived culture war, but you're missing the mark if you think Amazon deserves any credit or support for this project. I think misplaced optimism isn't any better than misplaced pessimism in this case.

do you remember before the charge started, we could see Elrond and High Elven King Gilgalad? sorry I mean Gilga daddy? and then cavalry charged occured and then it stopped which I think is just stupid because those horse riders behind the front flank will just trample on them..but still they managed to stop nonetheless because strong woman Guyladriel is there....and then the most stupid part a parley....where we could see Elrond and Adar tried to negotiate......my question is didnt we have Gilga daddy in the beginning before the charge? So where the hell is he? suddenly he is just disappear?? if he was there in the beginning he should have led the charge not Elrond and he should be there with Elrond and Adar during the parley, but nope he is not there, and then after that parley, they resumed the fight and still no Gilga daddy.....not until its night time, then Gilga daddy appeared with some soldiers with him and did you see Elrond's reaction? he was surprised and asked why High King is here in battlefield? which is quite understandable because its dangerous....so all of these didnt make sense at all which led me to believe they most likely did some stupid error in editing that scene. Gilga daddy shouldnt be there in the first cavalry charge. If he isnt there, then the latter scene where he appeared at night to help Elrond and the troops will make much more sense...This episode is just made by some amateurs who have no clue about battle tactics and strategy.
Also thanks to internet , I could see how Amazon is really messed up big time by sneakily changing the topography and the looks of Eregion, first season city have no walls around it, second season the city have walls lol....also season 1, city is surrounded by a much wider river with no massive rocky cliff mountains on the side, while in season 2, teh city is surrounded by much narrower river on teh side where the rocky mountains sit, so that Amazon could do their ridiculous scene of op trebuchet that can shoot for miles and destroyed a rocky mountains to dam the river. If that;s the case wouldn't it better to just use that trebuchet to smash the walls, I mean it can destroy mountains of giant rocks, so it would be strong enough to penetrate the walls right? lol no need stupid ravager, also that scene with asian elf taking like multiple arrows is just trying to copy cat Boromir scene which I think is not necessary because no one cares about her, as we didnt get her backstory unlike Boromir.
Sometimes it looks like all these nonsensical, dumb, outrageous things were made for a reason. That uncontrollable rewriting the entire book for the script reminds me of communists, their fanatic style of revisionism and rewriting history. But the horrible quality of everything and in all directions, all this visual and verbal bs which inevitably attracts attention, causes a reaction, generates discussions - it seems like even negativity somehow benefits them. As a Tolkien fan, I just want the simpliest thing - an accurate, respectful, cinematic illustration of the original. Not a neo-marxist/woke version, nor a postmodernistic version. Sadly, looking at this modern Hollywood, we will not see something normal in the near future.

But maybe they should avoid social commentary because some of it is laughable. The line that "poverty doesn't cause crime, poverty gives you the ability to cause crime more easily" is one for the ages. It is very callous and shows a lot of ignorance, or maybe some sort of ideological blindness.
Yes crime is a choice, but poverty will also make crime less of an abominable solution in comparison to the alternative of ongoing poverty and destitution. Poverty will lower that moral threshold that you have to cross to engage in crime. Yes, it is a choice and most people choose not to do it and prefer to work hard and honestly even if they are poor, and what happens? Most of them stay poor. Some people will improve their conditions and very few will actually become rich with honest hard work, but the majority will stay poor. Well, some poor people can't stand that, or don't have the moral and community support to avoid the lure of crime and engage in crime either because they want to get rich quick, or because it is prevalent where they live and it makes them part of a community or group, gives their life meaning. And most of those eventually end up dead or in prison. Of course, this is also an oversimplification that doesn't do the topic justice, which goes to show that it is too complicated to be written off with simplistic assertions. And there is of course moral depravity and crime in rich people, as they can use a lot of deceit and rule bending in order to maintain and increase their wealth, even when their activities are not strictly criminal by the letter of the law.
But it is unfortunate to use the analogy of poverty and crime when speaking about the orcs. Makes me wonder if this TH-camr actually understands Tolkien. The orcs are not stand-ins for poor people who are criminals. Tolkien may have been an upper middle class social conservative, but he hates allegory and more than anything he is a Christian and he tells a moral tale. They represent absolute evil but maybe also the evil of moral depravity in humans. Tolkien's evil characters are a personification of a situation of moral decline, hence they also destroy nature and everything he considered beautiful in the world, whilst their works are all tainted. Tolkien's writings are a sort of Christian romanticism.
To consider the orcs analogous to poor people engaging in crime is some sort of American, ultra-right, libertarian ideological interpretation which is very far from what Tolkien was trying to say.
I am not saying the above because I am a fan of the show, I find the show deplorable. But this particular line offended me so I had to register my objection.

They needed the female character to provide Member Berries, Celebrian wouldn't have done that because many don't know who she is. They DO know who Galadriel is though.

Orcs had a spear on her neck. But it was stupid, horses stopped 2 feet away from them and they stopped in an inch so in normal reaction time if they were to kill her they would have.
