    "Hey Sven, what's your least favourite part about making videos?"
    "Oh the editing, for sure."
    "But isn't your latest video idea ONLY editing?"
    "..."
    This was supposed to be a very quick thing I could throw together as an alternative to my more in-depth Red Alert chronology video. It ended up taking some 30+ hours to put together and ate up three days off that might otherwise have been used to play games. But hey ho, I'm pleased with the way it came out. It's certainly not No Strings Productions level but for me this was more post-production than I'd attempted in the past.
    Some of y'all might object to the Tib Sun soundtrack being used for the Tib Dawn conflict but the menu theme for the latter is too loud and none of the soundtrack had the right atmosphere I was going for. Let me know if you would like to see more of these for the later games.

      You chose the soundtrack perfectly! The TS OST perfectly captures the dystopian world of Tiberium.
      Only think i dont like about this vid is the missing voice of yours. I really liked it in past videos. You had this informative reporting tone that perfectly matches the videos you create. So I'd love to see the next video being voiced over again! 15min reading is just... straining and causing me to simply scroll down into the comments instead of watching the video

    I think the theory of GDI and Nod Campaigns happening in parallel has some merit.
    This explains how Nod was able to stay relevant and alive despite Kane's "Death"
    Course, this begs the question, how was Australia eventually become a battlefield between GDI and Nod.
    All I remember is Marcion bringing all his loyalist and most of the Black Hand there

    • @SvenVanDerPlank
      @SvenVanDerPlank  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I don't think Australia is mentioned at all until Tib Wars (or Kane's Wrath would be the earliest in the narrative). Think it was mostly a backwater which is why Marcion fled there but then Kane's "Grand Gesture" made it more of a focal point by the time of the Third Tib War.
      They are listed as a GDI country in the first game but after the Białystok Scandal we get a listing of dozens of GDI bases and none are in Australia so I switched them to neutral.

      It's one of my favourite tracks from any soundtrack.
      When I played the Remasters last year I was really surprised at just how bad the Tiberium Crisis gets in the first game because I didn't really recall it featuring that heavily. When I was editing this video I wanted to emphasise that the war is almost nothing more than a backdrop to the planet dying off. Thought the Tib Sun menu theme fit that tone perfectly.

      If there's an interest I could do Red Alert as well. I think with RA I was trying to prove a point about how the two campaigns work together (up until half way), whereas these days its just widely accepted in the fandom that the Tib Dawn campaigns don't contradict each other. There used to be an attitude of "if it's Nod, it doesn't matter" as far as the lore was concerned.

      In the past I've always said it was between that and Brandenburg since the White House and Houses of Parliament are in Tib Wars. Unless they rebuild them brick for brick I can't see how it can be them. The Paris Tower was what the cutscene select plays by default so that's what I went with. Also I just don't see the Brandenburg Gate being on the same level so it makes less sense as a target since they're purely landmarks and not military installations.

    I always think that 2019 was the date where the 1st Tiberium War began, by judging the availability of Wolverine prototypes, Ion Cannon and Stealth Tanks. There's no way for everyone had access to these tech back in 1995.
    Also the Great World War 2 in Red Alert 1 might took place in late 1960s, because many of the in game units might be prototypes in real life such as MBT70(precursor to the M1 Abrams), AH56 helicopter(precursor to the Apache helicopter). On the other hand, some WW2 era equipment were still in use such as Iowa Class battleships and Skyrider prop aircraft(analogy to the Yak fighter in game).

    • @SvenVanDerPlank
      @SvenVanDerPlank  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I prefer the later date chiefly for the 'Tech reasons too. I've also thought about the Apaches and Abrams before and thought that the RA1 War might have gone for over a decade stretching from 50s to 60s. You see various single barreled tanks in the cutscenes so though they might look alike in gameplay, it seems there was an evolution during the war.

      @@SvenVanDerPlank About many people thought about the Philidelphia Space Station and Kodiak in 2030, the most viable way to explain these is to say that GDI already begun their development since 1995 but it will them took more than 20 years to put them into service.
      On the other hand, according to General Jack Granger, he said that he fought Nod some 28 years ago. So, We can safely assume that GDI and Nod started proxy wars or small skirmishes in 2018, one year before the 1st Tib War.

    first tib war was not 2019 despite what renegade manual claims

  • @MarqFJA87
    @MarqFJA87 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hold up! Tiberian Sun is explicitly set in 2030, and specifically says that the First Tiberium War ended "30 years ago". No way is the 2019-2022 date range even remotely possible, to say nothing of the other arguments that had been put forth by others to debunk the validity of said date.

    • @SvenVanDerPlank
      @SvenVanDerPlank  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When does Tib Sun specifically say that? From memory the game only says IT is set in 2030. There is a developer interview released years before Renegade where he said that was the intention. But since the game's themselves don't canonise that the devs are free to change it for Renegade at a later date. Assuming they did, I don't even necessarily agree one way or the other regarding the dates for Tib Dawn and Renegade.

    • @MarqFJA87
      @MarqFJA87 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SvenVanDerPlank From the Tiberian Sun manual, there's a section titled "Datalogue of Past Conflict" that has the sub-heading "Twentieth Century Conflict" for the First Tiberium War (specifically stating that it "originated in the late twentieth century."), with the next sub-heading being "Twenty-First Century Conflict" that discusses what happened *after* TibWar1 ended. There are also multiple references to "decades" having passed between the two conflict, or Nod and GDI having "invested many decades into the research of Tiberium"; in my experience, such phrases is used when at least *three* decades has passed. Additionally, the manual states that GDI was formed "forty five years ago" (working back from the given current date of 2030, this should give us a founding date of 1985; I assume that this is a simple mistake, because people have made worse mistakes when doing off-hand mental calculations).
      And if we're going to use the Renegade manual as a source, it clearly states that GDI was founded in 1995 specifically as a response to Nod's rising threat; if we are to take the 2020 date from the same source as gospel and not as a typo for "2002", then the only way to reconcile it with the clear statement from Tiberian Dawn's GDI ending that TibWar1 had been going on for "more than three years" is either the conflict had been raging for over a decade, or GDI had been sitting around doing nothing for over a decade before finally waging a 3-4 year long war against Nod. Given that this manual is either contradicting itself or severely undermining GDI's credibility, I feel very confident in my decision to take it with a huge grain of salt.
      Honestly, the wiki's date range for TibWar 1 (1997 - circa 2000s) is very reasonable given all the information we have.

    • @SvenVanDerPlank
      @SvenVanDerPlank  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand why you think that, and you aren't wrong because there isn't a right answer, but all your arguments there could be rewritten as WW2 started in 1933 when Nazi Germany came to power.
      Nod rises to prominence with the arrival of Tiberium in the 90s. GDI and Nod can be opposed without being actively at war. All the references to them researching or being in conflict still work that way, plus it allows you the flexibility to work in all the evidence that points to Tib Dawn being later.
      Again, the timeline is a mess, every argument for or against has a counterargument. It's all interpretation and I tried to find one that fit the most. I don't necessarily agree now with what I said then.

      @@SvenVanDerPlank I get where you're coming from even though I don't agree with the arguments behind this version's date range.
