Wilma is doing great. Dan is another pro rider with such a kind, gentle hand. He doesn't interfere. My take away from most of your lessons and the pros riding your horses is, put a bit more trust in your horse. Wilma has so much natural talent, so giving her the chance to show you she can do it. Another great vlog. Belated Merry Christmas.
His leg is....amazing. At about 39.34 in the video you can see him find her "gear" and she comes into his hands, the butt comes down and he's got her even when she reaches the second part of the combo and does a baby look because she's young, he's got her so engaged even with her mistake they sail through. She's such a brilliant talent for you Meg, your heart leads you so well. When she gets some good miles on her she's going to be a superstar.
I love all the professionals you guys visit, and obviously Simon is fave.. but Dan is such a close second! Really pleased he featured again this year! I hope you can make the boot camp happen, for you, for Wilma, and for us lol x
I really think you have something special in this mare, Meg! Everytime she's ridden you can just see her soaking in the knowledge. Such a bright future for you both!
Dan is so generous with his advice and tips and at all times putting Wilma's welfare front and centre in the way he structured the lesson to build her confidence. A video packed with useful training ideas that can be replicated at home with a minimum amount of equipment.
I love Dan's riding and attitude towards the horses. There's also this young woman on TH-cam, who has done a fantastic job producing a bunch of ponies... who is she again? What IS her name? Oh yeah, it's Meg Elphick. Ever heard of her? You totally know what you are doing and as I do every time you have a new one, I think to myself, "What a lucky horse/pony!" But all these cool vlogs with you and the pros will just reinforce all you know and are capable of (and it's super for us :)). Also, I've been bling shamed by a French showjumper too (Yann Candele who rides for Canada). I guess it's a thing.
The expression on Wilma (& her pricked ears) - she was having a blast jumping the course. Dan is really lovely, an excellent trainer. You are going to have such fun with Wilma🤗
I love Dan! I watched his video a couple times last year. I just loved the way he encouraged the horses. You can see them gaining confidence while he rides them. He’s wonderful and Wilma looks great.
That was terrific in every way! Wilma, Dan, Pete’s filming, and your humor and skill at vlogging and doing the sponsor bit. I’m getting more and more impressed with Wilma. What a fun journey for us to watch. ❤
Dan rode Wilma brilliantly! As did Simon! You have such great resources to help you by giving Wilma some great training rides and you some wonderfully valuable lessons. Piggy is also such a wonderful asset!!! I can’t wait to see more of your training and progress with all of your horses. Love riding vicariously through you!!
You and Wilma will be such a great team. She really is lovely. Wilma is much less rushie to the fences with Dan. You really do need to take a few lessons with him so you can give Wilma the confidence to not rush at the fence. If you keep on the way you are going, she will be dragging you around the courses, not because she is keen, but because she is losing confidence that you will support her properly. I know that you already see this. I think Dan is great at letting Wilma find her way. You will learn tons with him.
This was amazing to watch! It so interesting to see the difference in showjumpers & eventers! I also LOVEEE the slo mo DSLR’s 😍/ You can really see how Dan rides & how he is with his positioning. Lovely man- Wilma suits you to a T! Xxx
Meg with all the jumping lessons that I've seen with you. This is the best teacher for jumping that you've had. I think he's a keeper and you should be using him as your jumping coach. Just like you have a just Like your flat ground teacher You could learn a lot, by the way, he jumps getting the weight off. The saddle early then gets the weight back on before he hits the ground and comes back off. The wait that's a really good lesson to have. I would definitely use him as your coach for jumping
Awesome vlog , I have loved all the fantastic insights and learning throughout vlogmas. I think the next one will be with Lucinda, the advice about the thighs 😂🇦🇺
I think this is the best instructional vlog I’ve seen yet . Dan is so funny and entertaining whilst imparting a wealth of training information . Soaking it up. Well done Wilma, so honest and promising .
Even as a dressage rider I love doing polls and cavalettis to help with a forward and strong movement. Cross training is so important for every horse for mental and physical training 😊 He has some great advice
Very good session for Wilma! I actually think that it is just what you need, having to PUSH the horse a bit here at the beginning instead of having to rate an overly keen horse. Will (hopefully) keep you from pulling. Just keep that rhythmical canter and if you have to, push instead of pull! GO WILMA!
Love how he allows her to canter in a 12ft canter rhythm and meets the fences beautifully. Trust the canter to stop the pulling ride. You maybe struggling to find this canter in your small arena at home.
Really loved last years session with Dan and this one is fab too! He has a great way with the horses but also riders, he isn’t just giving an instruction but he’s explaining why we do it a specific way, and the impact doing it that way will have on both horse and rider. More instructors, pro and amateur, should learn from this approach!
That was such an enjoyable video to watch! And So informative.. Even though I ride a different style. I have a new horse 8 years old also slightly green. I was able to take away so much from him that I can use. I ride huntseat on a saddlebred. Attend saddlebred shows So the difference is we don't jump. But I was still able to take away so much from him My horse has a very similar personality as Wilma. And learning about all the core strength And helping to keep them balanced as young horses .Regardless of what you're doing it's all important. Thank you that was great!!!
Wilma looked amazing in this video - and she’s so cute! Always ears forward, and even if she’s having a little spooky she‘s not going crazy over it. Not sure the trainers that saw her do fast would even ever say anything negative about a horse, but she got a lot of praise - must be a good feeling to know it was the right decision to buy her! You’re gonna have a busy eventing season next year!
Such useful exercises, absolutely loved the poles on the circle at the start ! So simple but so effective! You must be so excited about Wilma after this day 😁
Oh Wilma I love you!! So much to come from this girl, cannot wait to see her out eventing with you. You have done such a fab job already, she’s looking so much stronger! Dan rode her beautifully 😍❤️
Love how he is riding!! So smooth 😁😁 really hope you are going to do some lessons there with her, would be so fun to see the development 🤞🦄 beautiful little wilma
I just want to say meg you got an incredible stunning horse and once she has built more muscle in her bum area I think she is going to be a 5* eventer. Your a brilliant rider meg and you just need to try and keep your confidence up. I know it's hard to do sometimes but have more trust in yourself. You have all ready done a fantastic job with all of your other horses / ponys that you have produced in the past. Look how well you were doing with bear before putting her into foal. I really thought you were extremely brave with half of the things that you use to get up with bear and I'm sure over time you will do a brilliant job with this lovely new horse of yours. I have 100% confidence in you meg and please keep up with the great job your doing with your horses and sending big hugs to all of your ponies and horses and wish you & hobbit & the rest of your family a happy new year for 2024
You better watch it Meg. Too many advanced riders are loving Wilma! 😅 She really does look like a lovely ride, so it's no wonder, though. Can't wait for the next episode. Happy New Year!
The circle exercise is what my newest instructor had me do the first time I jumped with her! We had two teeny jumps on a circle instead of four like here. It was not something I'd ever done before but incredibly useful.
For everyone who thinks the horse is the only athlete they should watch this explanation of what the rider is supposed to be doing during the ride and the improvements needed.
@@elphick.event.poniesI love your videos so much meg , your so gentle with all of your horses ❤ hope you had a merry Christmas and have an amazing New year ❤❤
I loved this video. So much valuable information and Dan makes it look so simple (I guess thats why he’s a pro 😊) I can’t wait to see you return for your lesson on Wilma yourself Meg X
Am enjoying following Wilma's progress. I anticipate Wilma being joined by another horse in the future. Once you have Wilma seriously out and about, I suspect that the next horse will be bigger and higher powered. That said, Wilma is very lovely 🌹.
I very much enjoy watching your videos, but I do wish there were fare less negative comments on them. Comments like, I cant do this or that when we have often seen you do more in the past. You are talented, so more positive comments, please..
Hi it's SO increedabl to see HOW the profeshenuls trian there horse's. And it's such a good exercise, for us ALL to try at home .Take care and all the best for next time .😄😄👍👍👍 And a BIG pat for willma .happy now year to you and your family.
Hope you and the family had a great christmas! Another amazing Vlogmas video. You can see Wilma improving each video shes in and she shows so much potential each time. I can see you two going far together. Excited for the future 👀🫶
Love the "reverse lesson" where he rides and tells the owner/producer exactly what the horse needs to help her develop.
Yeah it’s great for Meg to watch and learn from the professionals x
You can tell Dan is a really good horseman. Nice!
Definitely!

Her demeanor is exquisite. She really is happy learning and so willing to try. Beautiful horse in the making!
Take a shot every time Meg says “Yeah” 😉😂. JK, love you Meg and can’t wait to see Wilma become such a champ!

Thoroughly enjoyed this - Dan is a wealth of information. That first exercise on the circle reminds me of the exercise that Cam did with Em and Addie.
Dan is amazing and Wilma jumps really well. I, too, love this concept. Learnt so much watching this.
This was just brilliant 🤩. Dan is a legend. Who doesn’t want him as your SJ trainer now!? And Wilma. What a superstar ❤. Megan you are very lucky x
Wilma has such a good mind! Dan's trick with the little jump to help her find the right lead is genius, my mouth fell open haha
