    BROKEN PS5 From eBay - Can I Fix It? + M.2 SSD Upgrade - I'm trying to fix a broken PS5 that I bought on eBay. The seller accidentally tore the fan connector off the motherboard so now the game console overheats. And if I'm successful in repairing the fan connector I'm going to show how to install a GIGABYTE AORUS Gen4 7000s SSD into the M.2 slot.

    The skill is incredible. It's only when you see the connector zoomed out, that you realise how tiny the pads were. Great work.

  • @SkyfighterZX
    @SkyfighterZX 2 ปีที่แล้ว +157

    I guess if that pad was totally gone forreal, the only way to fix is was to steal power from somewhere else to power the fan constantly, not the way it's supossed to be but would save the console at least, that was some nasty broken traces, you did an amazing job

    • @Tronicsfix
      @Tronicsfix  2 ปีที่แล้ว +85

      If that were the case you could use an ohmmeter to find where that circuit is (hopefully close by) and run a trace to wherever you find it. Not ideal but it would work.

      No, solder mask would add nothing in terms of strength and you are right to be nervous ! surface mount connectors are just to be avoided unless you can see mechanical mounting points that are 'through hole' if you do have to do it try to get something to hold the bottom part as well and be very slow and wiggle very gently and you will be ok, most problems occur because people don't have Steve to show how it should be done and just rip the bloody things off, now that you're aware you will have no problems at all !..cheers.

    add a short cable extension from the board to the broken socket connector and stick it on the plastic case, no more fuss on how to create new mount points to solder it back on the board

    Nice fix Steve. I was just browsing ssd for ps5. What zoom was your microscope at? The only reference frame I could gather was the flux tip that looks like a 6 inch metal bar.

    • @Tronicsfix
      @Tronicsfix  2 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I don't actually know. It's a new microscope so I'm just learning how to use it. It's a digital scope so it's all new to me. I can say that it was zoomed in quite a bit.

    Was any solder mask used over the pints to protect them and get them on the board nice and solid? Or is there a reason why that would be a bad idea?

    • @Tronicsfix
      @Tronicsfix  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Solder mask isn't for strength. In this case solder mask isn't really needed. The fan connector has exposed pins from the factory.

    Very nice fix again and another rare to get Ps5 saved. I think they just pulled on the wire to get the connector out. Very nice soldering skills here Steve. I also recently fixed a xbox one controller by soldering a cap under the microscope and i did it but it takes a lot of patience to do it right. As we all can see you've done this many times before. 👍

  • @bondarenkodf

    I think it would be better to remove the connector from board, attach it to 10-15cm wire cable, the other end of wire solder on the board and glue the cable to the board.

    It would be nice if you had left a paper tape warning that the fan connector might be fragile so that the next person to open it can be extra careful with it. I'm sure you would love that if you were that next person yourself.

      @@Bestwick1983 Like I said, the next person to open it could be himself. What if he forgets about the connector? He could damage that small little copper left in one of the traces he used.

    I have a broken DVD player that I was unable to fix. Here’s some information about it: brand: Aiwa, condition: almost flawless condition, manufacturing date: unknown, problem: it won’t read DVDs, liquid damaged: no. That’s about all the information that I know about it, I tried replacing the disk drive, and that did not work! I’m not sure if you fixed DVD players before, but they act and behave similarly to game consuls that have a disk drive! Except the obvious change, it reads a DVD. I might even leave a non-good DVD inside the player for you to keep whenever you get more broken DVD players in the future! Will you be able to fix it for a video? Yes
