For the frozen game consoles. Try to install a game to an external usb drive. If it won't crash, the internal ssd is faulty. If it fails, the ram is faulty. Try non disc(digital) games first. For the green screen shutdown, the vrm or the APU could be faulty. If the hdmi driver chip is faulty, the data communication between the tv and the console would broke or fail sometimes, and the tv would throw the data away if it has a lots of errors.

It might have been interesting to try installing Horizon (PS4) to an external drive and run it directly off of that. If it doesn't freeze, it strengthens the assumption that the internal SSD is the culprit. I wonder if re-seating that internal SSD would do anything or if it's just faulty.
Ahhh bummer, such a shame, but like you said not every one is fixable. That said, the green screen of death is typically an overheating VRAM issue. I noticed it a couple of times while I've worked on them. It could make sense if the games are crashing that you have a bad ram module. P.S if you want to sell the green screen one, I'd love to have a shot at it, or to try and fix it and send it back to you 😉
I agree, I have seen simular visual issues when graphic cards on computers crash. I don't have much experience with consoles specifically, but I have seen tearing, freezing, and even total blackouts of the computer screen. On a computer the OS will attempt to restart the graphics card most of the time when things go bad. But the PS is probably programmed to shut down to preserve the hardware. The fact that they were running at all is an indication of that everything was ok for a moment, but likely has some bad connections in the circuit which changed with heat.
@@AleksanderFimreite you're not totally right about computers graphics card. In a pc / laptop, the is can bsod into whea_uncorrectable_error, which is hardware based error and may be gpu. I was tempted to say faulty ram for the first couple, but after thinking about it, the PS5 mostly works fine and will crash only after loading a game, so I'd say the most likely culprit is a bad VRM phase or something is overheating, because it seems to only happen once the GPU ramps up.

Interesting about how the builtin SSDs that can't be removed are married to their motherboards. It's actually kind of a terrible design that they can't be fixed or replaced if there's a problem with them.
It might be possible to do a NAND swap. I can't imagine those are married to the board. But that's more complicated than the type of repairs you normally do. If anything I would think it's the controller itself that can't be swapped.
The NAND itself is probably just a stupid flash chip, but it's possible that there's some sort of encryption or special formatting going on which also links the flash chip to its controller. Not in a unbreakable way but that would probably require reading and writing to the raw flash chip itself, so unless one has the skills to do that, it's basically paired to the rest of the board. I'm a little confused, surely if the PS5 freezes when playing a game, that is an issue that should be covered under warranty with Sony? If yes, why did the original owner not initiate a warranty call?
For the first 2 they remind me of copy protection gone wrong. I'm assuming the PS5 uses HDCP (probably version 2.2) and if possible try connecting them to an older or lower-end TV that does not use HDCP. I have a 24" Dynex from 2009 that is as basic as HDMI can get. No HDCP to speak of. When I was testing out a new product for my employer a few years ago I had all manner of HDCP errors when connecting to newer TVs but when I connected to my old Dynex it worked perfectly. This enabled them to track down through the device logs to narrow down the cause of the error (was an HDMI timing issue in the firmware that was interfering with HDCP 2.2). Assuming you've done everything software wise (which it appears you have) trying an HDMI connection without HDCP might be interesting to see if it does anything different.
Hunting the problems is the most interesting part for me... and when/if you find them, fixing them is the second most interesting part. I'm more than fine with these "failure to fix" videos!
Could've tried installing the game to an SSD installed to the PS5's aux slot, or an external USB drive since HZD was PS4 to get a better idea if it was the internal SSD causing it.
Great video! Even though they didn't get fixed, it's nice to see the attempts. I'd hate to think there were a bad batch of SSDs that caused those to lock up, and the way they're matched up to the system was a bad move by Sony. They should have made it replaceable. It's a long shot, but a while back you talked about how if the liquid metal isn't covering the whole chip, that it could potentially cause issues. Do you think that maybe those have a dry spot on the chip somewhere that is causing the lockups? Again, great video, always an enjoy to watch!

I appreciate the effort! Each show is fascinating
Nice to see a shaving beard for micro center sponsored ad , it Show how much professional you are
Love your videos dude. I myself like to fix things but not to your extent unless necessary. Keep it up.
It's nice to see how durable and valuable the new electronics are.
Sometimes you lose but never give up, Got a ps5 and its so cool to me to see whats inside the machine 😊🤣
I love your concept of anything is fixable if you try love the vids
I loved watching it mate. Thanks for the video
I always appreciate every device you’re able to fix.
Great video! Maybe if you try to install the games on an external SSD they will work and that might indicate that the problem is with the on-Board SSD
Could've tried installing the game to an SSD installed to the PS5's aux slot, or an external USB drive since HZD was PS4 to get a better idea if it was the internal SSD causing it.
It was still fun to watch
Need part 2 with resolutions!! Thanks for all)
Micro center is amazing!!!
Hopefully there will be more info available soon for the ps5 and parts/chips etc. Hopefully you get them fixed or sold for parts
Microcenter is a great place!
hey i always enjoy your Videos no matter of the outcome. the great thing is you fix more than what you cannot, and that is a plus!
Awesome video as usual!
Hi tronics , you rlly helped me a lot , to clean my ps4 , i watched ur tutorial
PS5...The world's most powerful "FREEZE BOX"....
You should try using Thermal Camera to see hot spots on the motherboard that will tell you which component is hot and replace it
authenticity is important!
Hi Steve. Have you fixed the PS5 that the "repair shop" destroyed?
No...but I sent it off to get x rayed. I'm planning to make another video about it.
So disappointing that there's no way to replace the SSD. I really liked that feature on the PS4...
The PS5 that phrase at some point in the game it's probably a ram issue
Great video lad keep up with the good work ps how are you doing today
We fully expect you to tackle this boss rush again after you've leveled up even more.
Could it be possible that the Onboard SSD is poorly soldered? Is it possible to re-solder them to check if that fixes them? Just food for thought.
1st one "Freeezing" is NEVER going to be software issue, bit surprised he even tried a re-install.
I thought I was having a stroke at the beginning. Thank God :)
@TronicsFix Try the good ol' fasioned penny on the cpu/gpu fix, just my 2 ghetto cents.
Steve getting so much mileage from that Horizon dvd.
Ha, ha...gotta get my moneys worth!
