70's Nor-Cal BMX racer right here. San Fran Bay Area original. Started in 1978, when I was 14 and never looked back. Switched to Mt. Biking in Marin in 1988, been at it for 35 years. I still have some killer 70's/80's bikes in perfect shape.
This is when and where I started racing as a little little kid... Nor Cal... Vallejo Pal mostly.... but also another place that looks like this Aptos Track here... IT was a long drive down towards San Jose / Santa Cruz area... for some reason I always thought it was called Skyline or something like that... IT was this track that started flat, kind of went up hill a little bit then took a left turn and went Screaming down into right hand turn etc... next to the track were some motorcyclist who were going super fast uphill trying to make it to the top.... Anyone know what that track was or the name of it? I thought it was skyline...
I started to race in 1976 I would say that today I still race at the age of 55. The only thing I say about today is BMX is yes it is faster the technology on the bikes have come a long way they might not be as strong but the other type of technology has improved the sad part is that today's BMX it's all about speed endless of bicycle Motocross back then when our sport was very primitive there was more of a technical aspect of it when it came to ride your bike on the dirt. Yes the younger generation today have a lot of speed but they lack one thing, is that they're not the typical bicycle commuters that we were when we were young we were able to at a blink of an eye avoid obstacles and that's what made us good in BMX back then and we were more of a technical bicyclist then today's generation.
Is this Chip Page from San Jose? Dude, Jr. High days! we used to kick it at your house. I raced one time, you let me race one of your bikes. I remember you had a boxer dog that farted all the time. Your Filipino friend Paul Paras.
