I took 4th in 10 expert class that weekend. I was proud of hat considering you were probably racing the best around the country at that time! I remember how much faster that race was compared to local races! That was 40 years ago for me but remember all the names of the pros , my hero’s at the time 🤘
So funny how all their names come back... I was big time into racing back then. Sponsored by a local bike shop, Paid for all my gear, bike, frame, parts, entry fees and travel... Life was good!! 🤣🤣 I had so much fun back then!
I came down from Canada to race this track in 1985, as well as Rochester 'Cool Tool' track in New York. I had a DK Racing poster autographed by all these guys. I remember being nervous to ask Harry Leary for his signature, lol. These guys were gods to me. Good times. Thanks for posting this. Shout out to all the guys I raced with at Stoney Creek BMX in Hamilton, Ontario!
AJ Brown....May be sweet looking but they weren’t good, the team I was on was sponsored by them....tried them once in one moto, went right back to Vans...
Lived 5 minutes from oaks . Was there with my Pops . I can't remember who it was but they ended bailing into that pond just below the start gate. Track hasn't changed a bit. Good times.
In the 2nd race Greg Hill in the outside lane was adopting his ‘sidewinder start’, you can just make it out. Tim March also started using it after he spent time at Greg’s place training. Great days in my distant memory.................. 😎
Interesting the names from back then. Turns out the most famous guy there would turn out to be John Tomac in the 15 expert class. Crazy career and now his kid is one of the best motocross racers in history.
most beautiful sport in the world with my badass diamond back turbo leary black chrome / bulls eye- araya star bars / takagi 180 , i placed 3rd in my first race at bellmore ny 3rd ior 4th n my second race tired , third race i nrerly ended up in the lake / swamp parents pulled the plug on ABA, but i still raised hell in my hood . seen the ER w amnesia deluxe , etc , all fucked up bmx forever looking to race my in my age group and kick some ass ,

Raced BMX from 82 until 87. These guys were my heros back in the day. I still have my copy of Stu Thompson's BMX from the early 80's.
I remember racing The goose Chapman all over Michigan!! Bogie downs ect!! Is this you mike,? Frank Balazs Toledo ohio
Seems like BMX in the 80s was much more aggressive than today. Kids today all have full face helmets. And some even use peddle clips. I miss the 80s.
You need to check out an Olympic Bmx race friend. Big Shyt
😂😂 wtf. Oh God a full face helmet?! 😂

Still is amazing bmx is a amazing sport
eddie was a dick. pete was always cool and cool 64 impala. gun metal grey.
What is called "BMX" now, is not BMX.
Cool bikes, sunshine, riding in packs and pit stops at 711. That is my definition of Bmx in the 80's.
@@Scotty-Pyou couldn’t be more wrong lol
the betters year´s bmx .... the best times!
Those Jox Jag shoes are actually really sweet looking
AJ Brown....May be sweet looking but they weren’t good, the team I was on was sponsored by them....tried them once in one moto, went right back to Vans...
14:48 John Tomac! Legend in mountain biking and bmx. Also the father of one of the greatest motocross riders ever, Eli Tomac #3
I was there!! Racing with Richie Anderson and Deen Neeb!!!
Lived 5 minutes from oaks . Was there with my Pops . I can't remember who it was but they ended bailing into that pond just below the start gate. Track hasn't changed a bit. Good times.
This was the first ever BMX race I ever saw. Thanks for posting!
Greg Hill is the Man!! GT BMX #1 !!! ALWAYS
At 13 I could only read about these races in Bmx Action now at 49 I finally witness it on You Tube. Pistol Pete is as good as advertised.

Actually had to pedal back then and no clip-ins.

12 Expert - MI-4 in 1983
Moved to Maine that year and got the ABA#1 plate, but that might have been because I was the only rider in the state. 😂
Great to see Stu
Wow; Stub Thomsen. I remember that guy.
New day bmx racing is more now it’s own sport, 1980 bmx was just a copy of motor cross but on bikes
I raced BMX until I could get a bike for MX. We all did.
Those tracks were too short
Damn, those bars and seat posts... also, whats up w the guy who had goggles on his helmet?
Team Murray!!!
Is this the little kids track?
Raced against Stu Thompson many times… never beat him
