  • Today we take a look at the 1957 Dodge Custom Royal with only 9700 miles on the odometer. This car came to me with a seized engine. It took a bunch of work to get it back on the road and also preserve its originality.

    Man I’m so happy this car made it into your hands! The care, the smart unobtrusive upgrades, just fantastic to see this lovely old Dodge set up for another sixty+ years of history.
    Thanks for this uplifting video 👍🏻

    I remember this car from a car show in Strongsville Ohio (Cleveland area) in 1977! It was like brand new.

      In the video you saw a small gold placard while I was checking the trunk. It was for the milestone car society, Ohio chapter, Strongsville Ohio, 1977.... Small world!

      Yes & no. These Dodges were both powerful and beautiful, but they started to rust while still sitting in the showrooms as the legend goes. That's why so few remain today. Bad steel. But yeah, the 50's had some of the prettiest cars hands down. And they were simple too.

    I think I have photos of this car taken at a car show in Strongsville Ohio in 1977. I will post them if I can find them. I own a 1958 Dodge Coronet that my grandfather purchased new. I had it at that show.

    Great looking Dodge! Glad to see that you did not try to make the car something that it was not ment to be. Only doing a few things to make the car safe & easy to repair (like the breaks). I realy like it when a person respects a classic automobile and tries to keep it as original as possible Great job!

    About 20 years ago I was at a car show and saw a guy who had built up a '59 Custom Royal. He had retrofitted a 440+6 under the hood. It was jet black and had blacked out steel wheels that looked like they belonged on a Nascar track. It was so cool. Ever since then I've had an itch to build up a finned car. Thanks for showing us this, it's obviously too nice to modify too much. But it's a superb car the way it is.

    • @CatastrophicFarms
      @CatastrophicFarms 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely. Also way ahead of their time. These cars are the reason GM scrapped their initial Impala design and went back to the drawing board for ‘59.

    This one brings back memories, from 1962 when I was four.
    For a few months, my father drove an identical 1957 Dodge...color and body style. But these cars were prone to mechanical issues, so he traded it in for a 1955 Pontiac.
    I kind of wish he held onto it a little longer. As young as I was, I preferred the styling of the Dodge. But he said the car was "sick," and that was that.

    The amazing interior is so pristine it's a tiny miracle. Of course the oil turned to plastic about 1975 - Great channel amigo, I am working on a 1941 Dodge luxury liner . It's the opposite, pristine original engine and a body sitting outside forever with the windows gone.
    You know your automobiles - impressive.

    That's exactly what my mom drove except it was a 2 door in that same 2 tone. Sure brings back some fuzzy memories. She traded it in in 62 when I was 6 for a new Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk. My dad drove a Porsche 356 cabrio and he traded that in for a new MB 190SL from the same dealership. Studebaker imported Mercedes Benz in the 50's and early 60s and sold them through their dealerships. They even had consecutive license plates.

      @@TheDodgeWhisperer Super Red Ram [ kool ) probably has a little more usable low end torque then the 270. I must tell u here in N. J. These types of original rare cars are missing now at local car shows. Are shows used to be good variety of different cars but now only popular muscle cars so its getting boring.

    Wow what a beautiful 57 Dodge. They are only original once. I like how you did some modern upgrades. Especially the disc brakes. Can I ask where did you get a conversion from? I own a 57 Belvedere sedan, it had a similar life as your Dodge, its low miles and unrestored. Was a Georgia car now living in Australia because I imported it about 10 years ago. I want to put disc brakes on the front. Thanks for sharing yours.
