    Frank is clearly a great guy and has quite the collection of awesome Chryslers. This droptop New Yorker is beautiful in green and the spear running down either side of car really looks sharp. Bravo Lou, another winner, thanks so much enjoyed your video with Frank. 👍👍

      Coming off the TOO advanced, but beautiful 30's Airflows, Chrysler withdrew almost out of existence to the 3 box look. With all the issues Chrysler has had, almost dying so many times, the 57-60 are really the only chrysler's that really matter outside the musclecars.

    When I was 15 or so, my neighbor and his wife seemed to go from one of these cars to another. They were newlyweds, and he seemed to find them. Driver's setback higher than the rest, and rearview mirrors on stalks. Crazy.

    Yet another awesome gem from Frank! This car was Virgil Exner at his very best, and just one example of many of why people reflect so fondly of 1957! Love that gorgeous turquoise shade! As for those five that Frank says are exactly like it, well, you know what they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

      Mo Garcia The ‘74-‘75 Imperial and ‘76-‘78 New Yorker (same car) were wonderful road going cars. Lots of torque and (for the era) horsepower, smooth and good handling, and quiet. Really wonderful. (Except the arm rests were too narrow! Never understood why they did that.)

    • @mogarcia9755
      @mogarcia9755 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@garysandiego yea and the highway with the cruise control it was almost like automatic pilot, but i remember had a safety feature that if wipers were in use, the cruise would not engage. Got great gas mileage on highway. Back seat was line a button tuck sofa very plush leather.

    • @larryhawkins3294
      @larryhawkins3294 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Don't think the New Yorker was underrated. I always thought it was well respected and had a long heritage dating back to the 1930s. Not only that many times it was the only option for a station wagon in the near luxury class. There was never an Olds Ninety Eight wagon. For many ears until 78 or 79 Buick Electra did not offer a wagon for regular production.

    No wonder there were about 2 decades where people just couldn’t wait until the new models came out. I can completely understand that now after seeing so many incredible cars from the 1950’s and 60’s. Those were very special decades in so many ways. The cars are just a reflection of the enthusiasm people felt for just being alive. Hard to believe that while car manufacturers were making such unbelievable cars, we were watching black and white tv’s with 2 channels (where I lived) to choose from. Now the tv’s are incredible and the cars are dull.

    "Ach du lieber, mein schatz"! I "lust" for COLOR!!! This color is one of the most gorgeous I've ever seen! BUT, although it might be called "Indian Turquoise", it surely is a "cream GREEN"! In 1957 I was 17 & didn't have a drivers license yet. And I never "dream lusted" over such a car as this, as it would have been out of my price class even if I could have been able to drive & been able to buy a car!! And those wonderful WHITEWALLS really helped a lot to bring out the beauty of the green color!! Talk about your "beauty queens", this car is truly a "raving beauty"!!!!! "Gesundheit" & pass the color wheel poleaze!

    This car is exactly like my 1957 Chrysler CONVERTIBLE COUPE`. Same color, Interior etc.I bought the car in United Dtates back in early1987. With the powerful 392 HEMI / 345 hp it blowed the doors of the BMW`s and scared the hell of other cars. Motorized Dynanite. I sold the car many years ago, after a total restoration. One of the most stupid thing I have done. - Hopefully I will buy it back some day..The New Yorker was a blast to drive as most other Mopars was at this time. LOVE IT

    126" wheelbase is really something.
    Just think, the 66' 7 Litre Galaxie 500 was a whopping 119' and the 66' Pontiac GTO only 116'.
    Somehow the 116' wheelbase car became the muscle car definition.

    My '57 New Yorker convert was Midnight Blue with white top, there were 1,042 built. The standard headlight system was 2 headlight on all '57 Chryslers, with the 4 headlight system OPTIONAL, even on the IMPERIAL , I've seen New Yorkers and 300's with 2 headlight.and I owned a '57 Imperial Crown with the 2 lite. I also owned a '58 New Yorker convert in green. the 392 Hemi was continued, as was rhe neutral/start button, in 1958, '59 went to 413 wedge. The push buttons on 57-58 Imperials had N/S and some 57 Dodges and DeSotos, other push button trans that had neutral/start were 57-58 Mercury and 58-62 AMC cars. The model is Danbury Mint in 1/24 scale, they also did '57 NY hardtop and 300 convert, also 58 NY ht and convert, Franklin Mint did a 58 300 1/24 convert. Brooklin only does smaller 1/43 scale nut did a 59 300 convert.

    Man when I see those colors like indian turquoise, I just know they're cars from the 50's as a kid from Chicago, anytime you saw just Plain Jane two tone color schemes car, you just knew a blue collar working family man was driving it! But if it was one of those Peacock colors that came by, it was usually a young bachelor not from the neighborhood just flashing through! I remember when my uncle a CFD like my Grandfather, bought a used "57" Chevy Bellaire two toned aqua/white chromed out w/elec windows! We thought we were rich! Us kids played with the elec/windows so much my uncle locked them all from the drivers side! You'd have to ask for them to lower and no grabbing the window to pull yourself up! Or you be move from the window to the middle of the back seat and be sentence to wave from the back window! Hell he wouldn't even park the car in street, just in the alley so he could keep an eye on it! That New Yorker is a Beautiful example of the Art Deco 50's when The USA was No. #1! We and the Whole World knew IT! Thank the Gentleman for allowing you to put it on your channel, and you for videoing that Magnificent New Yorker! Sinn Fein Byrne

    Just a note about those few points for this car. I remember reading about how the DOT wanted to test the quad headlights that were smaller than the single beams but would have the high beams as stand alone lights and would reduce accidents at night by the dual lights when one burned out or had a connection failure to drive with just 1 head light.
    In 1957 each of the big 3 could pick a model to use the smaller bulb quad set-up , this was seen on the Lincoln , high end Mercury , Dodge , Desoto , Cadillac Eldorado Brougham and the Rambler Rebel plus others I missed. There may have been some States with a DOT standard for dual large sealed beam lights....but I think they agreed to Test them as an National issue since the new National Highway Project was in full swing to link every State for Tourism to see the USA in a Chevrolet .
    I can't see a National Highway grid where my headlights are illegal in a few States , so my guess is that all cars could have quad headlights by 1958.
    As for the Hemi, it's a 392 and was dropped after 1958 but there were several 59 Imperials with a 392 Hemi which may have been because they had left over to get rid of while the base engine was now the 413 in 1959 .
    The front letters on the hood look more like a design for Perspective by the sloping away front where the letters would appear correct for a frontal view at that height . It reminds me of the warnings painted on the road that seem normal for the driver to read STOP ...but looking at it from above it's longated narrow letters .
    Take a look at the E and R to see how the top is stretched out or proportion from that camera angle but i bet it looks normal from 20 feet away straight on . The early 1960's 300's had that same design on the trunk for the Letters because it had the same slope . The concaved shape might have been to reduce the weight and help the aesthetics to avoid them bulging out like fins .
