    Before ushering the coming new year, the Chinese always celebrates the Dongzhi festival (冬至) which is a very important event in the Chinese calendar. It is a time when family members hold a reunion and gather together to make and eat glutinous rice balls or Tang Yuan (汤圆) which literally means "round dumplings in sweet soup" to mark the winter solstice. These round and chewy colourful dumpling balls are very significant for the occasion as they symbolise family togetherness. unity and happiness.
    These fun and colourful glutinous sweet balls are mochi-like chewy, doughy and sticky. They are made from glutinous rice flour that everyone enjoys as dessert. These little rice balls are also one of the easiest Chinese dessert to make. All you need is glutinous rice flour and water to make the rice balls. They are then cooked and enjoyed in a classic ginger and screw pine leaves infused syrup with a tinge of sweet fragrance from the sweet osmanthus.
    Last, but not least, homemade glutinous rice balls can be really fun and meaningful when your family gather to help shape the balls together. Certainly it's a traditional Chinese dessert which is well loved by all generations.
    As always, ENJOY!

    Bro this food bring so many memories from when i was a child back then. My grandma always made this homemade dish once every year and i really loved it! But i think i stick to the one with nothing in it and with the colorful one instead since that is my most favorite one, bruh it like 2 AM in here and I'm hungry by just looking at it but also the nostalgia tho 😔👌

    I made this. It was okay but i dont blame the recipe because the sauce was so delicious i didn’t use the leaf but it tasted wonderful with the ginger. I think i left the ginger for too long and didn’t boil my rice balls long enough. Overall it was a great experience won’t mind making it againg

    Hello Huang Kitchen, Celine here. Nice to know u thru this video.May I ask u questions regarding these tang yuan ?
    1 ) As for the cooked tang yuan, if my family members eat at different times of the day, where should I keep these cooked tang yuan? ( in the sweet ginger soup or at room temperature ? )
    2) If the cooked tang yuan cannot finish within the day, how should I keep the tang yuan ? ( soak in sweet ginger soup and put in the fridge or just put these cooked tang yuan in a container and keep in the fridge )
    3) How about the left over sweet ginger soup ? Can I keep in the fridge and heat up again to eat together with the cooked tang yuan on the next day ?
    Thank You In Advance !
    Have A Good Day !

    • @Huangkitchen
      @Huangkitchen  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually keep the tang yuan frozen. Cook them right from the freezer when needed. Not advisable to leave in the syrup as they will turn soggy.

    Huang I made this using a similar recipe except I put the rice balls into hot ginger syrup after they floated to the top. Does the syrup have to be cold or room temp. finally i was very disappointed as the center of the rice balls was hard.. not cooked

    • @Huangkitchen
      @Huangkitchen  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If the centre of rice ball is still hard, that means its still not cooked. Add some cold water into the pot when the ball float to continue cooking till float again. That will make sure the rice balls are really cooked.
      Use room temperature syrup, not cold or hot.

    Ini kalau di Indonesia namanya ronde kali ya 😀

    • @faustinuskaryadi6610
      @faustinuskaryadi6610 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ronde itu dari bahasa Belanda yang artinya bundar, seakar kata dengan round dalam bahasa Inggris, dan Yuan dari Tang Yuan juga artinya bundar.
      Tang = sup panas= wedang
      Yuan = bundar = ronde
      Wedang Ronde sebenarnya adalah terjemahan kata per kata dari Tang Yuan.

    • @Huangkitchen

      It is usually eaten as a snack. It is high in calorie, not much in nutrient. However, please be careful when giving to toddler. You may want to cut into smaller portions for easier consumption. Hope this helps.

    • @Huangkitchen

      You need glutinous rice flour to make this and not rice flour. The glutinous rice flour gives a gummy texture and a chewy bite to the rice balls. Plain rice flour cant. Thanks
