    I went into this page because me and my aunt got fond and fell in love with Olive oil soaps straight from Jerusalem. It is so soft and gentle to the skin. But we didn't want to wait for someone to go to the Middle east or in Jerusalem just to get this soap. Usually we wait for our friends to go to Jerusalem to have this soap for us. Luckily, though I found this awesome video in soap making tutorial. Thanks you soo much for this video we can now have it in our very own bathrooms as well.

I know people are faithful to the soap channels they watch and get super crazy angry when they think someone is doggin' out their soaper but YALL! Please please check the safe usage rate for any fragrance you add to your bath and body products. It's just smart soaping!

    Ideally, metal utensils should be avoided when using lye, especially pewter and aluminium. Wood or plastic is better.

    • @karijaneify
      @karijaneify 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oof...not wood, lye and other alkalines degrade it and will cause splintering. And a good quality stainless steel, like 18 gauge is great for soaping. But not aluminum or tin. I don’t know about pewter.

    Instead of olive oil, could one use avocado oil? Thank you.

    • @iwannaapple7190
      @iwannaapple7190 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Avocado is softer oil. Olive is too but its unique property is it gets harder and harder as it cures. But I say go for it. Why not? I took the time to figure it for you. She is superfatting at 6.6%. I recommend 3.5% so I'll show you both and how to do it for your mold amount.
      Measure your mold = W x D x H x .42 = oil amount your mold will do. (this takes into account of other liquids also).
      Then calculate your lye. Lye = oilAmt(convert to grams not ounces) x .133 = Answer is in grams only.
      Now subtract 3.5% to 6.6%. Every one usually subtracts 5% from the lye amount and that is the lye that you use. 100% lye could result in crusty, cracked, not as good for skin soap.
      Now you need water. You ALWAYS need at the very least the same weight as your lye but I wouldn't recommend that. Makes soap to hot, might crack or be lye heavy with crust.
      I recommend multiplying your lye amount by 1.85 and that will be your water amount. This video, for example, is 2.38 x lye amount= amount of her water.
      If you don't have a stick blender you can use a wisk. Mix till you see a solid color and no darker spots and if you can bring it to a slight trace that would be better. Notice the top of her soap batter. It looks shiny. Almost like silk on top. Thats what it looks like when its mixed up good. It DOES NOT HAVE TO HAVE TRACE. Just make sure its all solid in color as best as you can when you pour. Good luck.
      BTW, 50oz of avocado oil at 3.5% SF would be 337 grams of water, 182 grams of lye.
      5% SF = 179 grams of lye, 331 grams of water.
      Either one of these would work.

    Questions:
    a) Can I use expired olive/coconut oil to make these lovely soaps?
    b) I also have some rancid olive oils in the shelf. Can I use the rancid oils for the soap-making, and
    c) Is it safe to use them?

      Like two tablespoons per pound and discount some of the water to dissolve it and add after trace. Because it can cook and give salad trace

      If it splashes on your skin, flush with COLD running water. Never use vinegar for a lye spill on the skin. You can use vinegar to neutralize a lye spill on a countertop/floors, but never with skin (water only).
      Vinegar neutralizes Lye but in the process, will cause an exothermic reaction (heat). It will burn your skin worse than just the lye/water would do.
