    It's 2020 and this mom is still liberating people from soggy taco shells!!! The perfectly crispy taco shell has eluded me for years. I've had the oil too high this entire time and used an inferior brand of tortilla to fry. They now come out as they do at the taqueria down the street from me. This is LEGIT the WAY!!!

    Thank you so much! I tried this, and it took until my third try to get it to work. The first two fell apart; probably because they weren't fully thawed after freezing them. The one that worked was so good, especially with a little salt. This is going to save me so much money! :)

    Great video, thank you so much. I decided to try them and since I am lazy I decided to cut jalapeños in half long ways and put them inside the tortillas when it came time to fold them and keep them open.I used one maybe one and a half jalapeños per shell.... once they got rather brown I replaced them with new ones so as not to get a burnt flavor. 😊

    Thank you for this! My hubby is 1/2 hispanic and on his father side they fry the shells with the cooked meat. I had never done tacos like this before as my mother always just bought the boxed taco shells. One night i told hubby i wanted true tacos and he was so excited. He didnt think this white girl could do it lol, but i nailed it. Made the traditional deep fried chicken tacos. Even did tortilla chips and bean dip. However i did it this way first, wich i personally prefer as they are way less greasy. Thank you again luv!

      I beg to disagree, ma'am. I'm half Mex/American and my mom was from England. Traditional to me, because of how my mom made them would have to be hamburger meat (fried with the cooked meat inside them) topped with lettuce, tomato, onion and cheese... but to each, his own! Also I hate those damn floppy corn tortillas with only meat in them. When I asked for tacos at a Mex restaurant in Chicago (my truck driver days) they brought me floppy tacos and said they were "estilo Jalisco" (Jalisco style) tacos. I said that was estilo lazy ass, and to take em back, fry em and put lettuce, tomato, onions and cheese. Of course because I made them work "extra-hard" they charged me more.

    I not Mexican, but I love to cook all kinds of food and bought some masa harina and a cast iron tortilla press from my local Hispanic grocery store just so I can make tortillas for tacos, and burritos, and make tamales and empanadas. I can't wait to try this as your taco shells look so delicious, Christina.

    • @MyKitchenCorner
      @MyKitchenCorner  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow! I love homemade tortillas, I hope yours are delicious, tacos are always 100% better (not fried) with homemade tortillas. I recommend store bought tortillas for frying, because they are thinner and do not retain so much grease when fried. Homemade tortillas will retain more grease because they're thicker. You might want to make gorditas and sopes on a flat grill or cast iron pan without lard or oil and are sooooo gooooooooooooooodddddd. LOl This is making me hungry! Please let me know how your masa adventure is coming along. Make some videos! Share with us. Christina

    I like to use a wide pot, not a dutch oven, but a good sized pot about 6-7 inches wide with about 3 inches or more of oil which, after frying, I let cool, then strain, and put in a big glass jar in the fridge until I need it again. The wide pot also keeps any spattering to a minimum. We like our taco shells with a wider bottom than they get when you just fold them in half so there's room for the taco meat and toppings and they don't need opening up (where they break at the fold). We also like the Mission extra thin corn tortillas since they fry quickly, crisp up really nice, and stay crisp. The trick is to keep the heat at medium high (or a little lower for the thicker corn tortillas like she's using) or your tortillas will brown instead of frying up crisp. I've been frying tortillas for taco shells and tostadas for over 50 years and we eat a lot of Mexican food at our house!

    That's how you make real Mexican tacos. I had a friend and they were a Mexican American family and after work on the weekend his wife would make this. OMG great video.

    Making shredded beef tacos in the crockpot tonight and needed to know how to do these shells! I miss these style tacos from California now that I live on the East Coast and they don’t do authentic out here!! Gotta try to do it myself now...thank you!!!

      Also, I LOVE fried corn tortillas!!!
      My taste buds have changed as I’ve aged. Both Fried corn tortillas and cilantro, I can’t seem to get enough LoL.
      If I have no appetite, I just add cilantro and I’ve cleared my plate😂
      My ex husband HATED cilantro so now I’m searching for a new husband that loves it...Ok maybe not, but it makes me laugh

      Wow! What an awesome comments you've given me. I am so sorry I didn't respond sooner, I just read it this morning. I love cilantro as well. Especially a warmed up tortilla with a slice of cheese and cilantro or Spanish rice made with cilantro. Yum! I agree, I wouldn't tolerate a husband that didn't eat cilantro. Hope you are well during this time. Warm hugs and well wishing. Christina

    Hi thanks for this. I never did low but they come out too chewy. So you mean low is like what a 1 or 2 on the dial or is it really where it says "low"?

    I’m going to try this right now. The only thing I will do differently is not stack the the new ones on the old ones. The oil will get on the old ones from the newer ones but great vid
