- This Video is to share how I managed to resolve the the error, "Fault in the engine control" on my 2019 BMW R1250 GS. Hopefully this will help someone out there if they come across this issue or if they own similar motorcycle or they plan to buy one.

I write this from the comfort of my couch in Scotland. Just over a week ago I was on a rented 750 GS (2022) in the middle of Argentina. Literally 100 miles from nothing on the Ruta 40 and it just died.
Same warning, no power, no phone signal nothing. "riding slowly to a specialist BMW " was about as ridiculous a message as I could of read.
I switched it off and started it and it ran like shit consuming loads of fuel. I used up my spare 9 litres getting to a town on reserve. Genuine flap was on. Filled with fresh fuel and it ran fine.
A week previous, it failed to start in the middle of the Atacama desert in Chile.
Adventure bikes cannot be failing like this in the wild. That's their job, to get you through these places but companies know that heading out of town for a Latte doesn't present real problems.
That was a couple of pant shitters for me.
These messages have replaced idiot lights.....if the bike runs OK don't worry. If it goes into limp home mode then that's a real nuisance! This is what happens when you allow software 'engineers' out.

“Limp mode”. That’s what has happened to my F750GS. I got that message but severe failure in my case. I bought a 2019 model with only 1,025 miles on it today. Driving down the highway from the dealer where I bought it and when I gave it extra throttle up to about 75+ mph it suddenly went into a limp mode. It is at about 3,000 rpm and doesn’t accept throttle input and is misfiring. I rode on the shoulder at 22-30 mph with hazards flashing for 30 miles to get to my hotel where I’m sitting now. It’s Saturday evening here. The dealers are closed tomorrow and Monday. I’m essentially stranded and pretty irritated that my newly purchased used motorcycle won’t get me home. My house is 160 miles from here. I can’t drive on the shoulder at 25 mph with the engine misfiring and no power or throttle. I’ll probably call my insurance company because I have trip interruption insurance, thankfully. I need the bike fixed (I wish I could just return it, frankly) and I need to get home so I can work Monday morning. 🤬
Thank you very much! I had the same problem on my GSA 1200 2018, the message appeared and the accelerator didn't permit the rpm increase and at first gear the motor tangled. It happened after a travel that i refuel my bike with a different gas... i turned off and started the bike, the message disappeared and worked very well! God bless you!

I got the same message today mate, I rode higher revs for a bit then it cleared after restart, there are some exhaust value issues, keep an eye out for any more messages

Hi. Also experienced this always during starting the bike. It’s due to battery voltage being too low for the computer. Ie cold weather. Throwing all kinds of strange messages that are not stored in the bikes memory
I just had the same message pop up on my 2021 F900XR.
I had same message on 2020 r1250r. It’s a throttle cable issue. Mine was loose under handlebar. I pushed it in and heard “snap” sound and message disappeared. I hope it will help you all.
I got that message yesterday on my 18 1200. Hex911 says camshaft position sensor issue.
Please how did you resolve the issue . When it happened on my 2020 GSa , it puts my bike into limp mode and I can’t go over 20kph.. I see yours is running fine .
Also mine pops up frequently , especially when I go over a bump .. have you had yours come back on after the reset .

Hi, Thanks for your comment. After resetting the Computer I have not had any further issues. I would advise you take it to a BMW dealership and get your bike fully diagnosed.
Check all the sensor and actuator electrical connections around the engine.
i have same problem with my Scooter C400Gt, until now SC cannot detect problem😢
I would buy this bike...but to be honest such failures won't happen with Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki. The new 1250 is well balanced engine but still after driving a brand new as they just got out the feeling and the noise of crankshaft going all the way trough in my ears like there is a bad front wheel bearing was just a disapointment for me. Also new parts breaking as passanger foot spring and other small stuff should not be happening with the bike that costs that much. GS looks awesome but that is about it.If you can not service that bike on your own it's a complete money pit. BMW has long way to go to reach Japanese motorcycle quality...a very long way.

my 2021 GS did the same but went onto limp home which is only 20km a hour so good luck not getting run over. they hooked up computer and it was faulty throttle sensor. piece of shit
First.- Ignoring that message on the TFT is not good advice. It may be that in some cases it is an insignificant failure but in others it may be important. I don't think it's right that you recommend ignoring it.
Second.- Perhaps, before giving advice to others, the first thing you should do would be to read the motorcycle's user manual and check how the motorcycle is turned off correctly (minute 03:24 of your video).
Your bike's battery will thank you and maybe the messages will stop being displayed on the TFT.
in my opinion (providing its new or under warranty) he is correct just ignore the messages and if/when it packs up or blows up just return to bmw. Had many new bikes and never give a shit because that’s what warranty is and being brutally honest I couldn’t care about long term life of the bike as I generally only keep for a few years then sell on. I am on my 3rd Gs with 40k miles covered on them and gave the service side minimal thought.
