    Thank you so much! I have a 650 (same as the 701) that was experiencing the exact same issues. I did not take note of them and today I got so bad that it no longer wanted to start and left me stranded on the river. 30 Mins of paddeling later I got back and now I found your well comentated video. Thank you!

    Hey there sir! My Waverunner is experiencing similar problems but not 100% the same. My 1995 650T is currently rev limited and only tops out at 6MPH. I've rebuilt the carb, checked for exhaust restrictions, installed new spark plugs and still the same issue. However the other day when I was on the water, it magically fixed itself for 10 seconds, it felt great, didnt even know these WRs had power like that! But after the 10 seconds of joy, it reverted back to being rev limited for the rest of the time on the water. It never cuts off and always cranks and starts when hitting the start button. Think it could be the CDI or something else?

      It has been a while since I worked on one of those start stop buttons but I would suggest 1. if you replaced it with a used stop switch check the rubber boot on the button which is under the actual stop button that you put your finger on. You have to remove the plastic cover to get to the actual button. If the rubber boot is torn you can clean the contacts on the button but this fix is somewhat temporary. 2. check the wire connector which runs down the steering column. There are are two sets of wires which each have a double plug. One is for the start and one is for the stop. Sorry can't remember the color combos, but you can check those conectors.

    Thank you for the post! I have a 1991 Yamaha Waverunner 3 with the 650 in it. The engine starts up and idles fine but will not rev up. It smokes allot and runs rough. I replaced all the fuel lines and have a new oem fuel filter that I installed a year ago. Also replaced the anti syphon valve at the tank. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Pastor Ramon

    • @creativerepairing2960
      @creativerepairing2960  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Pastor Ramon, Since it is a two stroke engine smoking a lot is not a sign of a worn out engine but could be running too rich or too much oil. I don't recall if the WW3 is oil injected or not but if it is I would convert to premix as when the oil pump eventually fails on a 30 year old ski you will ruin the engine. I usually premix my skis at 50 to 1 but other people might differ with me. You could try cleaning the carb by disassembling it an blowing out all the small passage ways with carb cleaner. A rebuild kit is inexpensive so you could try that. Old gas lines tend to deteriorate on the inside walls and small particles get into the carbs causing problems.

    • @etubrutus3501
      @etubrutus3501 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ramon, step one, drain the old gas and make some fresh pre-mix and try it. Afterwards, I agree with a carburetor rebuild. Be careful to only get rebuild kits from Mikuni or you will be sorry. You might even want to consider a brand new Mikuni carburetor, they are not expensive. Another possibility, is you have a bad reed valve. Disconnect one of your spark plug leads and try to rev the engine, then do the other one, if one of the reed valves is bad the engine will not rev with that cylinder. CDI’s, can go bad in a myriad of ways and the only way to 100% troubleshoot them is to slave one in that you know is good and try it. Good luck my friend.

    I had my 2004 yamaha xlt1200 started. Decided to wash the inside. Now it won't start. Seem like no spark. Would that start and stop be it

    • @creativerepairing2960
      @creativerepairing2960  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are referring to the start stop button on the handle bars, if it is the same as mine that is possible. You could jump the wires at the disconnect clip where they run up the body into the steering column. All electronics inside the engine conpartment made water tight unless something has been messed with, so it shouldn't be wet from washing.

      Just a tip always cover CDI box and electronics prior to washing inside, also don't direct water to electrical components....I've heard some guys sprayt all electrical connections with wd40 prior to wash down... Good luck

      I have seen on salt water skis where wires will rust/crode in two right at the ring hoop / connector just under the plastic wiring insulation. Usually inspecting the wire they feel like a floppy rubber noodle right at the wiring break. This usually happens to wires exposed to hull water not ones that are in the sealed electric box on the back wall. The battery terminal wires are most common for this issue. Don't know if that would help?

    • @creativerepairing2960
      @creativerepairing2960  ปีที่แล้ว

      Can't say for sure but very possible. You also have some electrical parts under the flywheel which could be the issue also. Also could try disconnecting the plug which leads to the kill switch on the handle bars. If you are a DIY type of person throwing a few after market parts at it even if you are not sure the issue is a lot cheaper than the shop.

  • @whateveritwasitis

    could you elaborate on this @6: 10 i have the opposite problem; the ski will start but i cannot shut it off by pulling the lanyard(which must be in for it to start) or by pressing the stop button. im trying to rule out the stop button being faulty or not and having a tough time...there is another video on you tube where this was the problem and it was the CDI that had to be switched out...

    • @creativerepairing2960
      @creativerepairing2960  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The start stop switch is commonly bad. If you take the plastic cover off the start stop switch on the handlebar you will notice a small switch under the push buttons. These small switches have a rubber boot on them which if the rubber boot is cracked it has likely been getting water inside it. You can take them apart and clean the contacts but this is usually a temporary fix.

    Hey boss, wave blaster will run great for the first ride and then die mid throttle. Doesnt bog or lose power just cuts out mid throttle. Wont start back up for like 15 minutes. When it does it runs fine then dies again very soon. Everything runs seems fine until it dies/ just cranks and wont start until sat for a while. Any ideas?

    • @creativerepairing2960
      @creativerepairing2960  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sound like an electrical issue. I know there are complicated ways to test the various electrical components but with the reasonable price of a lot of these after market parts I usually just start throwing parts at it. It comes out a lot cheaper than taking it to the shop. I would start with the CDI first. I have a blaster also. Cracked the block 10 years ago and hope to get it back on the water soon.

      Cdi box or stator 100%

  • @shannonwilliams601
    @shannonwilliams601 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What you also want to watch for is intermittent fire which is caused by the Yamaha lanyard system and what it is people go buy a lanyard from Walmart or aftermarket and it's not quite thick enough to lift the kill switch all the way up and the vibration from the motor causes intermittent fire also the crankshaft can get just a little bit of wear and what it will do is short out the stator and cause it to die and it will idle fine on the trailer but when you hit a wave it will die and that's because the slack in the crank is coming up and shorting out the stator

    My 95 Wave raider does nothing when I press start button. I hooked up jumper cables so I know it is not the battery. I do not even hear a click in the solenoid. Any ideas on where to start?

    • @creativerepairing2960
      @creativerepairing2960  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like either a bad solenoid or start switch. Try bypassing the start switch before taking the power box apart and see if it will turn over. The start switch button on that model has issues with the water proof rubber protective covering splitting thus getting the switch wet inside. You can take it apart and clean up the contacts but the problem will keep reoccurring. In rare occasions I have seen a battery terminal wire corroded in two inside the plastic covering at the terminal yet when looking at the plastic coating on the wire they look fine. If you remove the terminal wire you can ohm test it or just see if it feels like a rubber noodle right the the end connector tip. Hope this helps.

    It is poisonous to think that god's forgivness is the highest goal. Instead, hold yourself accountable to those around you and those you have hurt. God will forgive you no matter what as long as you repent. However you must earn the forgiveness of our fellow humans. Only by making right the wrongs we have done can we build a better world for everyone.
