Great information in the video. Helped me diagnose my pump but I had to listen to a couple parts 3 or 4 times cause the back ground music was so loud. Maybe tone that back a little. But very well spoken, to the point, great info, and very well explained. Thank you so much!

Not just under slab leak but slow leaking toilet flush flap. My pump cycles about every 20-30 minutes we have a 2nd bathroom we hardly use and the flapper is leaking now. I need to replace it to keep the pump from short cycling. Good video other then the music lol

Precisely the problem with my well pump. The tank casing had eroded to a point where no air could be pumped into it. Many thanks for the insight. I am off to buy a new tank.

Never knew the tank had a bladder and from what you described as a bladder failure sounds very close to whats been happening to my system. Wasn't exactly what i wanted to hear but at least i know whats to be expected. I'm about to go now and check the tank valve and see if thats it. Thanks for the info. you have helped me tremendously!!!!

Thanks for this! I just had the pressure switch fail on my well pump, so replaced that. Now, the pressure gauge needle flops around between 40/60 psi. It doesn't move smoothly at all, AND my tankless water heater tries to turn on whenever the toilet is flushed, which is new. I hope the tank just needs to be recharged and isn't waterlogged 🤦🏻‍♀️ living in the Wisconsin countryside is one thing after another! Sheesh!

I still have a galvanized tank from the early 80's. Not a lick of rust on it and it's been sitting outside here in Florida for 40 years. I just had my well pump replaced, dated 1988 on the pump! The well specialist recommened replacing the tank with a bladder tank to the tune of $1300 and I said you must be insane. never had a problem with short cycling either.

Hey Tim. Great video. There is nothing worse for a pump system than rapid cycling. However, all the things you mentioned that can go bad like the bladder in the tank, the pressure switch, even leaks under the slab are all caused by the so called "normal cycling" that happens when your pump runs for just a minute or two to pressurize the tank and system. Adding a Cycle Stop Valve does just what the name implies and stops the destructive cycling. The CSV makes the tank, pump, pressure switch, and everything else in the pump system last longer while delivering strong constant pressure to your house, and works with much smaller and less expensive tanks.

HOwdy, We had a bad cold snap down south. 8 degrees then didn't get above freezing for days. My water lines caught hell. SO did my well pump and pressure tank. Replaced one line, and one line on gas hot water heater. Thawed well, replaced pressure gauge, thawed tank. Installed new pressure gauge on well got it adjusted and had decent water pressure everywhere minus the kitchen sink. no hot or cold, just barley running. Adjust pressure switch and got decent flow in kitchen hot and cold and lost cold in my tub...I searched for leaks there are none no clogs that I know of pump isnt cycling on and off great pressure everywhere, outside fauctes are like firehoses good hot water pressure in tub, no cold, bathroom sink is fine toilet is fine, Im out of answers please advise..Its a 50/30 well motor and Im set really close to that, tank pressure is at 28..I dont have a clue, water is clear too

I watched your video and I knew none of your options were my issue. I did a quick one day set up to have a backup water supply since they're going to shut down my water tomorrow. I have a small 100 gallon tank connected to a pump with a pressure switch which is connected to the plumbing in my house. I don't believe I need a pressure tank because I have an adequate size pump that won't have any issues pressurizing the system. So my problem was once I got everything hooked up it was short cycling bad. Almost instantaneous on and off. I had to scratch my head, search some videos didn't find the answer, scratched my head again and then realized I'm an idiot. There has to be a check valve after the pump. Otherwise the water is just pressurizing in the system and then flowing back through the pump into the reservoir. This is pretty obvious if you're thinking it through carefully. But when you're throwing it together in an emergency you might skip something like this. And if you did now you know what to look for. My short cycle issue disappeared after installing a check valve. This was still a very good helpful video and will help somebody who had an effective system set up that stopped working.

I’ve got a deep well setup with a pump in the bottom of the well. I have replaced pressure switch and tank and it’s still short cycling. I think it’s a failed check valve that’s above my submersible pump. The pump kicks on satisfy’s the pressure then immediately gets expelled back down into the well via a failed check valve and kicks the pump back on. Any thoughts?

Hey Tim.... you will never guess what happened.... Cra Cra... Crazy. I replaced pressure switch... still crazy clicking short cycle. Pipes all tight no leaks. So pressure tank is working. I replaced pressure switch 3 times. I am a contractor and put in my own 20 foot short well. It's our seashore summer home. So I knew it was something Electric. So the pump is in our back little shed and we have a 15 foot extension cord that plugs in outside. So I thought just maybe... maybe it's the freaking extension cord. My wife thought... hmmmm... that wont work. BINGO... BAM... FREAKING BAM!!!!! Yes it did work Tim. I don't give up until I get it... last year hot water tank no hot water and relaxed both heating elements and both thermostats. Still no hot water. Then I thought maybe it's the breaker that us bad.. BINGO... FREAKING BINGO... 12 bucks for breaker 40 bucks for other stuff and I love it... Thanks again for your video

    Hello, I have some questions.
    1. Which pump is better for underground water tank, an normal stage pump or an self priming stage pump ?
    2. Why my water pumps for the house supply running rapidly, on and off and all taps are closed, and when I open one tap in the house the situation same, pump running rapidly on and off.
    3. My water pump system for supply water in to the house is also one strange things more, I open one tap the flow is ok but if I open an second tap the flow drops down. I have 2 pumps with capacity of 10000 liter each per hour. I not understand at all why like this is.
    Thanks for replying for anyone.

LOL. Number 4. Not having a check valve on the incoming water line. I thought because my water tank was uphill from the water pump with pressure tank that I didn't need a one way valve. Nope, it built up pressure, stopped for a few seconds while the water was going back out the input, then the pump would start again.

I have a well system that I replaced the pump and pressure switch. The pump fills the tank but once full the pump cycles very fast stemming from the pressure switch. Have replaced the switches (one on pump and one on tank). New pump, new float inside the holding tank. Adjust the pressure in pressure tank. Still cycles and I’m at a loss. Well-guy couldn’t figure it out, plumber at a loss.
