I agree! If they even make the A158W with steel case and 100m water resistance I`m pretty sure they can sell a ton for a lot more money! Anyways I quite enjoy the Vintage line as it is... Simple but has its charm anyways :)
Completely agree with you about the case material. If Casio ever release an all matte stainless steel version I will definitely buy a few..and know quite a few people who would do the same. Love everything else about this watch.
I have bought the black version (with traditional display) and absolutely agree that a stainless-steel body and mineral glass lens would be well worth paying a premium for. These subtle changes could make it the 'perfect watch'...
You mention that these bracelets are infinitely adjustable, but I don't think that's exactly the case. Generally these Casio bracelets let that sliding adjustment piece only cinch in securely to a specific spot on each link. You can force it anywhere, but it's not as secure, and prevents the bracelet from bending between those two links.
This NOT a modern reinterpretation, it is a faithful rendition of the 83QS-27 released in 1980. The case shape is a true classic one, of the early 80's. I have owned both and although preferring the 83QS-27,the new model is equally superb.
A great video of this very nice looking watch. I totally agree with you it would be much better if Casio produced these in a proper stainless steel case rather than a coated resin case. I have just purchased the black version of this watch with the negative display and I really like it, the display is amazing in bright light conditions and is very legible to read. I bought it in a Amazon sale for £36 here in the UK. Thanks for you review of this watch, I may purchase this version in the future depending on how I get on with my present watch.
I have an Armitron Rogue. It’s a stainless steel watch that has a very similar barrel shape to this one. Worth checking out if you need that steel. There are some tradeoffs though. No countdown timer, “period correct” backlight (Read: rubbish), and a very stylish but uncomfortable bracelet you will probably want to replace. But if you’re willing to put up with that it’s a beautiful little watch that’s available just as cheaply as the Casio, with two time zones, a 24h stopwatch, hourly chime and alarm.
I would actually disagree on it looking more “modern” as the shape is actually pretty similar to the casio marlin w30 from 1983. Makes sense why they’d make Hopper wear this in stranger things
Long time casio fan. Owning DW-5600E, I believe that that's the only watch I am ever gonna need. (as from G-Shock collection 😄). I'm getting me these for sure. They are iconic.
those are not modern lines, but early 20th century tonneau or barrel shape lines. The Cartier Tortue would be the most recent mechanical watch with this shape.

In terms of looks A700 is sleeker and thinner which makes the watch look way better than the b640. In terms of functions on the watch the b640 has a countdown timer and when u go to alarm mode u can actually set the alarm on a specific date which is cool. The b640 when in timekeeping mode shows not just the day and the day of the week but also the month which is cool for example (Th for Thursday and 9-15 for the month and day of the month). The b640 also has a better light function, u press the light button and after letting go the light still stays on for 2 seconds which I really like, the a700 obviously has a light button but as soon as u let go of it the light turns off. The a700 also has alarm and it also has a timer but no countdown timer, on timekeeping mode the a700 shows just the day of the week as well the day of the month but not the month. And that's pretty much it of the difference between those 2 watches. If your a person that doesn't really care about those extra functions I just pointed out then u definitely need to get the a700. A700 looks more expensive compared to the b640. In my personal opinion I think u should get the a700. Won't be disappointed
I wish there was a bigger version of this watch with the same or similar module. 39 mm lug-to-lug is too small for my 8" wrist. I need 48-50 mm lug-to-lug. The closest module I can find is the 3231 used in the DW-290 (my favorite Casio watch currently) and W-740 (both are awesome watches BTW), but they don't have the metallic/classic look of the B640.
I don't understand why they don't make these models in stainless steel too. A line of F-91w in stainless steel would sell like hell imho
I agree! If they even make the A158W with steel case and 100m water resistance I`m pretty sure they can sell a ton for a lot more money! Anyways I quite enjoy the Vintage line as it is... Simple but has its charm anyways :)
Stainless steel, made in japan, and 200 meter. Thats a dream :)

Why the F-91W? They should pick make another module from scratch for that model.
So what's this watch is made up of?

Great review! A side-by-side comparison of the new and vintage watches might make a good, short video as well. Thanks.
While I love my A158, I absolutely LOVE these B640 models-- it just so reeks of "80's retro aesthetic"... 😎
Yeah I have both , the B640 is much better.

That symbol on the dial looks like the auto el symbol on some g shocks
It's a flash function
@@WatchGeek how does that work?
It flashes with the light every time an alarm goes off, or a timer reaches zero or the hourly chime goes off

Bro how to adjust the day? Thaks!
The day is calculated automatically by the watch after you input date, month, and year
Like many basic Casios, the “A” button is a little hard to press. I think this is on purpose, but I don’t like it.
