*****UPDATE***** I can only attest to how the Dollar Tree fabric softener has worked in MY experience! A subscriber has messaged me saying that Downey left stains on her clothing!!!! Just wanted to add this update/warning!!!
Kelly Barlow Creations do the sponges have to be used fairly quickly after putting fabric softener on them. I was wondering if they would start to smell bad from being wet
When I use the sponge method (which isn’t as much as the wipes) I make the 10 and I use them that week! I don’t make anymore then what I’ll need for that weeks laundry for both methods! 💕
When using. Downy... U have to use less and deluded ...it is thicker and more consented .. This is why is leave the spots .. Just a fyi .. And the spots do wash out
If you use distilled water instead of tap water they will last a lot longer. I used to make my own baby wipes and they never got moldy or stinky when I used distilled water. Even after a couple weeks they were still fine.
Here is an AWESOME tip for both of these...cut your fabric softener by half with white vinegar. It will make your clothes soft and fluffy and smell FABULOUS with ZERO build up that fabric softener alone can cause. It is frugal and better for your laundry and can even be added to bath towels, which is a general no no because it makes towels not absorb well. Add a cup of white vinegar into a large load of laundry and it boosts detergent of softens water too. I recommend cutting by half but I actually cut it 75 percent vinegar to 25 percent softener and love the softer scent. FYI, once clothes are dried the is NO vinegar smell left behind, only CLEAN! Have a very blessed day, angel!
@@3orM00Rrecharacters Interesting. Not sure if this is true but it seems like it would be better than the fabric softener just building up over time inside the machines. On a side note, I’m sure Miss Kelly is happy that you commented on her video and helped bring it back up to the top……this is an older video lol 😝
@@denised3157 I use apple cider vinegar on my hair. The smell goes away after about 30 minutes. Try putting some vinegar on a paper towel before you cook a meal. After the meal is over, smell the dry paper towel. I think you will find no smell at all.
I've use the fabric softener with sponges for a few years now it saves a lot of money One thing I started when I got laid off to save money is to use Dawn the bottle that has the pump and it comes out in a foam I diluted that down and use it on stains because it's foam it attaches itself to the stain and that's all I have used since 2011 I think it works really well and lasts forever
Ive been using the sponge method for about 2 years now. I would not go back to store dryer sheets for anything. I love that I can also rinse my sponges and sterilize then in the microwave every once in a while to prevent mold. I LOVE IT!
Wouldn't the heat from the dryer sterilize them? I am a newbie so I don't know nothing I am too cheap to get a dryer I been hanging my clothes forever. 😉😞
I usually don't comment on youtube videos but stumbled here by mistake watched and followed the tip what a great lifehack, but to take it even further use two sheets for blankets, comforters etc. used during the winter, after the dryer is done and store the sheets with along with the blankets to maintain the fragrance. Will be doubling up on the brillo's!
Will be doing this (a little late finding this one). The sponges with the scrubber would also be GREAT to keep in the bathroom for those showers doors. Fabric Softener also cleans soap scum off doors...YAY! So much easier than getting it together everytime. THanks so much!
This is awesome!! Do you ever have a problem with the scratchy side of your sponge snagging clothes? How often do you need to add fabric softener to your reusable sheets? Thank you so much for sharing your ideas and time!! Your window snowman gave me the courage to try my hand at one, only miniature sized and on one of the glass cupboard doors in my kitchen!
Hi Kelly. You are such a smart lady. I have tried an odd sock with sofener before , but as everyone knows , socks seem to disapear. Magic Ugh. So will definately try your idea. 💞
We don't have Dollar Tree in Guatemala, but we do have Dollar City, sometimes we find good offers, but it's better to buy in Korean or Chinese shops. This is a great tip that saves a lot of money.
I just left the Dollar Tree and I grab the Brillo Reusable Wipes and I figured these could work to make reusable dryer sheets and I was wondering and then I stumbled upon your video.
Kelly, I am so excited! I usually watch your videos only to find the videos too difficult for me to do. I can do this one! Woo Hoo! I also usually do not use dryer sheets. But, you have converted me. Thanks!
I have just tried this and WOW the washing smells a lot better than putting the conditioner in the washing machine I was lucky enough to have a bulk buy of the "Jay Cloths" your "Brilo cloths" and I have made two of the spring jars of the drier sheets thank you for the share of your wonderful idea Hugs and cuddles from Milton Keynes UK
I like the sponge idea b/c it seems like it would almost act like a dryer ball also to help keep things from clumping together! LOVE your nails in this one!! I picked up the cuticle oil you showed us! Can’t wait to see if it works as well for me!! 💕
I have been using those Dollar Tree Brillo Basics Wipes for reusable dryer sheets for months. Since I am allergic to any fabric softener I use hair conditioner instead. I put one or two tablespoons of conditioner in two cups of warm water in a jar and shake it. Then I shake it every time I use it, and then submerge the wipes and toss them in the dryer. The amount of hair conditioner depends on how much static electricity you have to deal with. In warmer months I switch to vinegar and my favorite essential oils instead of conditioner and water since there is less static here in Alabama then.
Thanks for sharing Kelly. Please keep bringing your great ideas to us. One of your demos was for drying towels with the sponges. I’ve read many places that using fabric softener with towels reduces their drying ability. I find a little vinegar is the wash helps freshen and soften them. Hope you’re having an awesome day!
Nice ideas here, girl, although. I would recommend sponges/cloth pieces WITHOUT any kind of scrubbie part (for sake of your fabrics). My mom always used the same ol' washcloth for her fabric softener...load after load. It was always dry at the end of the cycle, so she would put a splash of her softener on it & toss it back in with the next load. Not like she ever needed more than one (unless the current cloth wore out).
Dollar Tree is my favorite retail store and I shop there often. However, I stopped using the Dollar Tree Liquid Fabric Softener because I had a very bad skin reaction to it after adding it to my laundry which included sheets, pillowcases and towels. The first time, I had no idea what was causing the skin reaction. When I used the Dollar Tree fabric softener again, the skin reaction was worse. The next time I did laundry, I did not use the Dollar Tree fabric softener and my skin healed and has been fine ever since. I switched to an inexpensive, but name brand fabric softener and had no negative skin reaction. Otherwise, I am a big fan of Dollar Tree items.
Just another tip, because I usually don't use dryer sheets - I used the wool dryer balls and add a few drops of essential oil to them. Let them sit for about 5 mins. before using and my laundry comes out smelling great!
My son says the same thing. He'd rather go to Michael's with me than the dollar tree now. He said at least I don't hit EVERY aisle in Michael's like I do DT. If he's with me he requests food and to be left in the car.
Kalecia F lmao Kalecia !!! My daughter does the same thing. I can't tell her we're going to DT until we have already gotten in the car and left the house...😂😂😳
Thank you for this video...Im always looking for ways to save money... since my stroke my husband is the only income and this will be a good money saver for us.
Fabulous idea, and I will try this. You are so clever........excellent job on your investigating. You are such a busy gal and finding out such neat things for us all. TYFS
My question is you just add more softener to the sponges or do you add the water to for doing for next batch of dryer sheets? Thank you for sharing. I really like this idea. Thank you. Also let the lady know to take out softener stains use 1/4 cup white vinegar.
I am so glad that I found you on here I broke my phone got another one and I was not getting none of my notifications but I got you now missed a few of your videos but that's okay I've got them now
I'm so glad u shared .. I have been doing this for yrs ... I also use the spong but with out the scrubby part ..it was leaving the lint buddy's on the clothing.. 💚💜💙💛 👍🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟👍
LuvPinkSocks 2015. I wash them like after 6 times of use .. I just toss them in the washer with the towels .. And as another tip... I use ammonia in my wash instead of bleach .. It takes out the body oils . and resido from deodent . my boys played football in school .. And the sweat and dirt . the bleach after time turns then yellowish the ammonia doesn't ... And I use Dawn dish soap. On the collars and armpits . and using ammonia in the wash also keep the washer clean .... I use 1-2 cups .. Depending size of the load And it leave no smell .. Just "DO NOT USE BLEACH & AMMONIA TOGETHER "
Excellent hack Kelly! I'm going to try them both. Do you suggest just using the sponge with the rough back on thicker /non-delicates? TFS, hugs~ Josie :)
LifeAt50&Beyond I honestly bought the rough ones by accident and should of specified that and forgot! Buy the regular sponges with no rough side to them 👍🏻😋
Hi Kelly. I tried making the cloth sheets. I bought the same fabric softener as you used in this tutorial. However, my softener is EXTREMELY thick. I wasn’t sure if yours was also. But I can see that it is not. Have you ever experienced getting thick softener at Dollar Tree?
Be careful! Don’t use concentrated fabric softeners. Clothes will probably come out of the dryer stained. Pretreat with stain remover and the stains should one out in the wash.

Laurie Utter that’s what I was thinking Laurie dilute it! That’s what I did with the sponges and I’ve never had a problem!!!!

Do you keep the vinegar and the fabric softener together all the time or do you add both as you put it in the washer
I don't use vinegar because I just can't toler3ate the smell. Otherwise, it's a great water softener
I read that vinegar isn’t good for the machine bits (technical term ;)) of the washer/dryer. That could just be a myth created by bounce!
@@3orM00Rrecharacters Interesting. Not sure if this is true but it seems like it would be better than the fabric softener just building up over time inside the machines.

Adding 1/2 fabric softener and 1/2 water works just as well, and you can use scrap cloth.

That is a great idea to sterilize them.

I tried this. i used Gain Fabric Softner and it was wonderful. I will def. keep doing this for now on.
I had no idea there was such a thing as reusable dryer sheets. Good trick. Thanks for the tip.
There you go again,Amazing.Thank you for your videos for seniors, It saves us alot of money.
Sharon Roe 😘💕💚
I used the sponge method for years! I do like the reusable towel idea. My favorite brand is Suavitel and you need to dilute that brand also.
How long do the sponges last?
We’ve been doing the sponge method for a couple of months now and love them....super cool diy
Thank you thank you thumbs up to you today great hack Will definitely give this a try have a nice day and stay safe

I did not know that trick...thank you . I am gonna go try that right now♡
I love the reusuable wipes from the dollar store.
i appreciate that you tested it out first

Hi Kelly I tried this diy for fabric softener. Omg! Love it. Saves money on drier sheets. Thanks for the creation.
I just left the Dollar Tree and I grab the Brillo Reusable Wipes and I figured these could work to make reusable dryer sheets and I was wondering and then I stumbled upon your video.
Hi Kelly. I really love the reusable dryer sheet idea. Ready for laundry day. Enjoy many of your diys. Very inspiring. Thank you😎

Love this Kelly! Ive made my own laundry detergent for several years.. love your DIY video!
What a cleaver idea!!!! Love it and will try it for sure.
I like the sponge idea b/c it seems like it would almost act like a dryer ball also to help keep things from clumping together! LOVE your nails in this one!! I picked up the cuticle oil you showed us! Can’t wait to see if it works as well for me!! 💕
Thanks for sharing.. Which one you like better? I'm gonna try it using the wipes
Magnolia Patchouli I like the wipes a bit better too❣️

Just a suggestion 😋 plain sponge might be better than abrasive sponge because it might ruin a wool or jersey fabric .
Thank you so much for sharing this I’ll save me some money now
Have to try this.
How-cool-is-that-diy!!!--Thanks,-Kelly.
So smart KB.

This is super awesome! Definitely gonna do This! Thx.

Awesome 👍💡idea great to use if in a pinch or just to use if you don't want to use expensive softener
Thank you 😊
I'm banned from going to the Dollar Tree for a while lol! My daughter is starting up a DTA (Dollar Tree Anonymous)! I'm in the dog house lol!
Doreen Andrew lol!!!!
my husband said the same thing last week!!
My son says the same thing. He'd rather go to Michael's with me than the dollar tree now. He said at least I don't hit EVERY aisle in Michael's like I do DT. If he's with me he requests food and to be left in the car.

Georgia Lewis I know this is none of my business make sure you try to get your ssd that what I had to do when I had my brain aneurysm.
I been working since age 14...my disability was approved for February...should get my first check this month..thank you.
Georgia Lewis oh ok
This is a great idea, I am going to try this. Thanks for sharing.
It made myclothes smell funny .
Thank you. Gonna have to try this.
Wow such a smart and thrifty lady.... WTG....
You should do a video on an essential oil dryer sheet DIY. The chemicals in the liquid laundry detergents are awful for your body. ❤️
I will most definitely do one using essential oils! :-)
When you reuse it do you wait for all the ones in the jar to be done and start the whole process over how long would you say this lasts for
Fabulous idea, and I will try this. You are so clever........excellent job on your investigating. You are such a busy gal and finding out such neat things for us all. TYFS
I love these dryer sheet tips. Thanks
Great tip 👍 thank you so much
Thank you so much for sharing that is a great idea I love all your crafts and ideas
What about putting cleaner in the sponges and selling them in the bowl like the fabric softener?
My question is you just add more softener to the sponges or do you add the water to for doing for next batch of dryer sheets? Thank you for sharing. I really like this idea. Thank you. Also let the lady know to take out softener stains use 1/4 cup white vinegar.

Shelia Jones 💚❤️👍🏻
Do you make your own Laundry soap too? Maybe not with DT items. Just curious. Thanks Kelly.
Wow, awesome idea! I am going to try that! Thanks Kelly!
I'm so glad u shared .. I have been doing this for yrs ... I also use the spong but with out the scrubby part ..it was leaving the lint buddy's on the clothing.. 💚💜💙💛

Laurie Utter I was wondering, after u use your sponge, do u wash before you reuse it again? I bought just the regular sponge also.

That's fantastic ! love the idea ... thank you
I made the sponge one been using that for yrs TFS
Great ideas. One little thing dryer sheets keep your towels from being as absorbent.
Omg I am definitely going to try this. Tfs👍👍👍
I Use sponges that don't have the rough scrubbing side on it.
Oh my goodness!! I do this... I love it. But thanks agsin. Love you xoxo!!!
I love this idea. I am going to try it. 😍
Great Video, I'm totally doing this!
U can also throw these in the rinse cycle in the washer. If you're going to use downy it's best if you dilute it.
Great suggestion! I am going to try with the Snuggle Sensations softener I use (I think that's the name). Thanks!
This is a good video and thank you, I will try this. Great video, as always. You have terrific ideas.
I'm going to try this TY for this hack
I think this sounds like a good idea,,
Great idea Kelly! Thanks for sharing and have a great week! Hugs, Kim
Woohoo I love your dryer. Thanks for sharing! 😍👍
Buy the regular sponges with no rough side to them 👍🏻😋
What a neat idea!!!
Great idea Kelly. I'm not sure if we have Brillo sheets here, would JCloth work ?
I just used an old shirt with a wild design so I could find it easy among all the cloths. But I think any cloth will work.
Awesome idea thanks for sharing
I thought about this and my only worry is the fabric softener stays on your clothes because it's not being rinse off like it does in the washer.
Excellent video
That is a good ideal thank u
Going to try it!
Dollar tree really needs to sponsor your videos
Great idea
Awesome diy!Have you had any problems with this staining your clothes?
Shannon Oakley nope not at all!
Kelly Barlow Creations ....awesome definately gonna try ....thank you !

Great ideas, but don’t the sponges tend to stick to fabrics b/c of that scrubbing side?
Thank you for sharing.
Thanks never thought of this great idea
