One of my absolute favorite smells is clean clothes in a dryer. You know when your outside, near the dryer vent, and you can smell the fresh laundry smell? Oh man, I love that! That particular smell reminds me of being at my Grandma's house as a kid.
Once I stopped using conventional laundry detergent, fabric softener, or dryer sheets that smell became less familiar to me. However, now that I use essential oils it is better than ever! When I first starting making my own soap I was lazy and cheap, and didn't always add in essential oils. The soap still worked great, but I missed that fresh clean smell. Now I always add essential oils, and now that I am using these dryer sheets, my laundry smells even better. Plus, they work well at softening the clothes.
Keep reading to learn how to make natural dryer sheets with essential oils!
NATURAL DRYER SHEETS INGREDIENTS
1 cup white vinegar
20-30 drops of essential oils (Get my favorite oils here: shopoils.com/l...)
Cotton cloths
NATURAL DRYER SHEETS INSTRUCTIONS
Mix the vinegar and essential oils into a small bowl and stir until well combined.
Cut old cotton t-shirts or fabric remnants into 5 inch squares. You can also use reusable cotton baby wipes.
Fold the fabric pieces to fit inside of a mason jar or other airtight container. Pour the vinegar and essential oil mixture over the cloth wipes. I made 12 cloths and used all the liquid. If you make less you may not need all the liquid. You don't want to saturate them.
Add 1-2 cloth dryer sheets per load. Before putting the cloths into the dryer squeeze access liquid back into the storage container.
HOW THE NATURAL DRYER SHEETS WORK
These double as a fabric softener and dryer sheet. The vinegar helps to soften clothes and leaves no residue on the laundry. Don't worry your clothes won't smell vinegary! As the clothes dry the vinegar smell will go away. The essential oils will add a beautiful scent to your clothes and you can customize it to smell however you want. I share my favorite oils to use below.
The vinegar and essential oils both help to reduce static.

Thanks for stopping by our oily house!
I just made your recipe. So simple and smells great. I used eucalyptus and sandalwood essential oils. I am trying to detoxify my life with all natural solutions and this is one more check off my list.. Thank you ❤
Great job!
I tried it out with a load of 1 blanket queen size bed sheets and pillowcases and a couple of towels. Absolutely no static cling!!! Simply amazing.
Vinegar also helps sets in the color. So if you have a new pair of jeans that you don't want to bleed, wash them with a cup of white vinegar in hot water.
Lots of things to love about this....1) the logic of not bothering to sew them. You out-Lisa'd Lisa on that one. 2) Lisa telling you to make them yourself. She's the real deal. Your powers combined make some sort of transformer super mom. Great work!
Love it!!
I made them using handi wipes. Works great and no fraying at all!
Great idea! Thank you for sharing!
@@ouroilyhouse will felt be ok to use?
~~January 2020~~Enjoyed the video the fact that you took the time to demonstrate not only the how but the why (e.g., why vinegar instead of another carrier) brought your demonstration video to another level wishing you much success in the coming year/decade
Thank you so much! I am so glad you enjoyed it!
This was Amazing!! I had my doubts
...used it when i was drying my shower curtains & bath mat..everything came out so fresh..no heavy scent..just Fresh😊
When you cut with pinking shears your edges won't fray as much. I love this and will definately make some.
Sounds great, thanks for the tip!
You can just take and snip the center of that fabric and PULL and TEAR the whole length! Then lay together and cut BOTH at the same time so you will only need to do 10 cuts to get the 6 inch squares! easy-peasy & fast and GREAT IDEA to make fabric softeners
Great tip!
I would choose the no sew option too! Awesome tutorial, thanks! 💗
Haha yes I am not much for sewing! Glad you enjoyed it!
I got about 8 white wash cloths for 6$ at Walmart. They work great
I use your recipe with some sponges I already had. Love the clean tea tree oil (Melaleuca) scent. It helps cut down on static. I’ve been using them for a couple of months & I love the freshness! Thank you for your video!
I am so glad you like it! Using sponges is a great idea!
Hello, Ms.SheenaCa,thanks for sharing your idea of using sponges could you please explain a little in detail what type of sponges you use or do you cut them up?:)
I just found your channel and I am in love. 😍
Aww thank you sooo much! Glad to have you here!!
Such an easy and beautiful idea! Will definitely give it a try! Thank you for sharing!💐
You're welcome! Yes I love simple!! ;)
Thanks! I'm running out of sheets right now so I'll try this!
Great! I love them!
Can't wait to try these! I never would have thought to use vinegar. Thank you!
You're welcome! I love them so much!
I came across your channel a couple of days ago and had to subscribe. I love your content. But it's funny because as I watched you, I was like...she reminds me of Lisa from Farmhouse on Boone (whom I absolutely love)...so happy I found you.
Hahah that it is great!! She is pretty great!! I am thankful you are following along with me too!
I'm making these today!!!!! I'm gonna use old t-shirts my kids can't wear anymore!!! Lol
That is a great idea!
Just got these done!!! My kids helped and loved it! I used lavender and tea tree oils, doTERRA of course😊
Thank You so much & Hava Awesome Day!!!!
I just made a batch of these and am excited to try them!! Can you use them on dry clothes that you are just wanting to de-wrinkle and fluff? Or is it best to only use them with a wet load that you are drying for the first time?
Maybe using pinking shears would be an easy way to help cut down on the fraying?
Great suggestion, thanks!
I know this is an old video, but I just found it and just have to comment on your top! I love it! Thanks for the great recipes and ideas :)
Thanks so much! 😊
Great video on making your own dryer sheets! first time visiting and new subscriber.
Thanks so much! 😊
"and not have to sew" YES! Whatever I can do to avoid sewing
I thought you looked like Lisa! I have subscribed to her channel for a while! Now I’m new to yours! Blessings ❤️
Thanks for subscribing!
1:05 Flannel does not reduce static. Vinegar is the ingredient which softens and reduces static, however that's nothing new, and why most people add it to the rinse cycle of the washer. These saturated dryer sheets are more complicated than the aforementioned usual method and just an unnecessary step.
Thank you for sharing this great household tip Ms.OOH, I'm definitely going to give this a try. I read in the comments of one of your subscribers about the idea of using sponges. Would you also happen to have an idea how to use those and does it matter what particular kind to use?:)
You're welcome! I have heard of doing that but haven't tried yet!
Thank you! Can't wait to try these.
You're welcome!
Old hand towels can work equally well too!
Love your channel thank you 💕
Thank you so much!
Do you have a update of these? How they'd do?
I keep mine wet wet. They are going in the dryer with wet clothes anyway.
Can I use the Gain fragrance oil?
you can use now sew glue for the edges
Oh now I could do that! great tip!
Anybody else need to make a sploof but didn’t have any dryer sheets so came here
😂
Great idea, thanks for sharing! How do we reuse the sheets, do we wash them in between?
I just stick them back in the jar to let them get wet again and then reuse them. I don't wash them.
@@ouroilyhouse Thanks a lot!
I avoid washing & drying flannel, towels, socks my & fleece with my clothing, bedding or anything else that I do not want to cause piling to nice my clothing & linens. Using flannel for dryer sheets I’d imagine will cause pilling. Cotton or broad cloth I think would avoid this. Peaking shears would resolve the strands & having to surge edges. If you don’t fix the strands I’d imagine those too will cause piling as well as strands getting caught up in buttons & other parts of clothing. Just my opinion. Love the idea to make scented dryer sheets.
Thank you for the suggestions! I have been using these for about a year and never had any issues.

What if you got static when they come out of dryer?
I use homemade dryer sheets.... but after a month or so get I get this odd smell on my clothes. Do you have any tips to get rid of the smell?
If we have soft water could we 1/2 the vinegar and add water?
Yes
Thank you 😊
Can you use aromatherapy essential oil? Or does it have to be 100% essential oil non-aromatherapy?
Pinking shears will cut down the fray. Easy way to avoid having to sew with woven fabrics.
Excellent ❤
Thank you!
Will felt be ok to use?
loved it
Thank you!
What about fleece or felt it doesn't fray
a little help. I tried this, and experimented with it, and my clothes came out very soft which is nice, but the scent I used didn't linger in the clothes. I used about 30 drops.
I am hoping to go to your essential
Oil page but it’s not letting me. Is there a direct website? Thank you
Yes! www.doterra.com/US/en/site/lauraascher
To skip the sewing use pinking scissors.
I am definetly going to try this but after a couple days won't they go bad ?
No they last awhile. I use the same batch for several weeks and then pour more liquid over top and keep using them.
Is the odor the same strong than downy?
Once it comes back out of the dryer do you just put them back in the jar or do you wash them and start over?
I just put them back in the jar.
@@ouroilyhouse I'm on my 3rd load with them- OMG!!!!!! I'm in LOVE with this! So soft and smells like Bergamot and Lemons. Bravo, Madame!!!
How long do you you keep these and use them?
Does this actually work like a normal Dyer sheet??
Are essential oils safe to use as dryer sheets? Ive heard essential oils are flamable?
You mention using oil cotton shirts for the sheets .. does that mean any? For example, could I use a black t shirt? Or do you think a white one works best?
Any would do as long as you aren't using something that will bleed on the clothes.
Could one use muslin instead of flannel? Also, as others have said - I love your channel!
Yes
@@ouroilyhouse Thank you! Btw - I absolutely LOVE your products. It has been so refreshing to integrate your wonderful recipes into our home! Keep up the great work!!!
Isn’t viniger bad for the dryer and washing machine?? I heard that it rusts it and burns the rubber.
We haven't had any issues.
@@ouroilyhouse ok, because my machine is an hp, so I was scared. Thank you!!
Do you by chance put water in this vinegar essential oil mixture?
Where can I buy meluca oil at
I use doTERRA!
Laura, do you have any dishwasher tablet recipes?
She does its added to her video list.
Hi, I could not understand what you mentioned to get the moldy smell...
"Maruka" or something.
Thank you.
Melaleuca
@@ouroilyhouse thanks. Another name for tea tree oil. I learned something new from you.😊
Wash add baking soda, in rinse cycle use vinegar
Could you use fragrance oils
Yes you can, they just aren't natural like essential oils.
Instead of using vinegar and adding essential oils, use the all purpose vinegar which is 6%. Cut lemons, or pine or cedar or many other options,(lavender, roses, mint, etc.) Let them infuse in the vinegar for a couple of weeks, strain and add to your jar of cloth pieces, less pricey than essential oils.
Is there a certain brand of essential oils you perfer?
I use doTERRA: shopoils.com/laura-ascher/
how do u spell the oil to get rid of musky smell
So how does this work for static?
Yes !
Won't those cloths mold after a while in the jar?
Do you get any oil transfer to your laundry
Nope!
Will the oil not get on your cloths?
Essential oils do not stain clothes like cooking oils do. :)
@@ouroilyhouse thank you!!
Would coconut oil be an option as well? ☺️ I’m trying to see if I can use what I have around the house versus running out and buying one ingredient.
Do you mean instead of the essential oils?
Our Oily House yes 😁
@@metrogurl30 Coconut oil won't work as a substitute to essential oils, they are different. The essential oils are needed for the scent, but without them they will still help with static and soften.
why is the vinegar being used?
Helps to soften clothes
eS-pecially instead of eK-specially
Anytime i use vinegar thats all i smell 🤷♀️
Ever been on top of a mountain and breathed deeply? What’s it smell like?! Definitely not like laundry, that’s because that’s a chemical.
Great tip/idea/advice, but video too long.
You're welcome. I will work on getting more to the point, thanks for the suggestion!
I like all your videos, long or short .
No not good
This could have been a 1 min vid.
Do one yourself then😉 and walaaah.
You had me until you said "expecially." *sigh*
