    There were a bunch of gapr's and udi's at the Junior Invitational, but most were gapr mid. They all complained about it not spinning enough with the low.

    I’d take the gapr low cause it’s more forgiving

    Another great video, James! GAPR for sure. I noticed you never highlight the offline stat. To me, that's way more important than the spin numbers at the top of the bag.

    I currently have both a 5 wood in my bag and have some time now, but I just recently added a gapr lo 2 iron to bridge the gap between my 5 wood and 5 iron. And I have got to say that behind my 5 wood, the gapr is my one of my favorite clubs in my golf bag.

    I would probably use the GAPR mid. When I worked at the PGA Tour Superstore it was very easy to hit well. I use the Callaway Big Bertha 815 Alpha 2 and 3 hybrids which are easy to hit so I am not relly in the market for replacements. I wouldn't use a driving iron because they are not as easy to hit.

    I play the 22 degree GapHigh #4, adjusted 1 notch more loft to 22.5 degrees, to give an average 210 carry with descent angle of 45 degrees from 115-120 feet. I had demoed the Gapr_Mid a number of times and was really going in to demo it again and buy it, but the previous day I had watched a TH-camr compare the mid and the high, and even though he though the mid would be his club, and I agreed with that, his own data pointed to the High. So I went in with an open mind and let the data speak the truth - even though I loved the Gapr_Mid, the High produced the better numbers. I ended up cutting the shaft 3/4" to make it the length of a 3 iron and I cannot be happier. I can shape it both ways but it naturally produces a high draw which I like as a starting point. In terms of that 230-245 club, I prefer a hybrid over a iron, even though I love a good 2 iron, because hybrids can keep the ball lower than 5 woods and at the same time, they are massively more stable and can easily and consistently produce better shots from non teed up situations, than any 2 iron. My weapon of choice is the Epic #2 18 Degree Hybrid (now an older model). It can be adjust to from 17 to 20 degrees. When teed up you can produce bullet ball low spin 240 carries, both draws and fades, and playing it at 18 degrees off the fairway, my reliable carry numbers are 225 fade & 230 draw. If you play links golf then maybe look at a 2 iron - otherwise 'player' type hybrids are far more useful for height and descent angles into greens. My driver swing speed i 107-110 and I'm a 5 handicap.

    My GAPR lo is one of my favorite clubs in my bag. i switched out the graphite shaft with a DG 105 at 39.25 inches and its a monster.

  • @dmax169
    @dmax169 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    If I had to choose between these 2 I’d choose the GAPR Lo just because of the bigger profile behind the ball and more forgiveness. The reason why I go for an iron off the tee over a driver is to hit the fairway so forgiveness is important and the bigger profiles usually go further anyway. I have the Srixon ZU85 and that thing is a weapon. Never coming out of the bag

    I am hybrid player. To the point I am considering getting a 5 iron hybrid. I have plenty of speed to hit a 5 iron. I hit hybrids very high but have no problem knocking them down. I like the ability to hit them a number better then a long iron. I get more versatility out of a hybrid.

    • @maxgrahlher2206
      @maxgrahlher2206 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew McCullough If you are already struggling with 5 iron, the GAPR low is not for you. It‘s still much closer to an iron than it is to a hybrid. Even with some type of forgiveness you need a club head speed of +95 (James is +100), which likely only reach the top 5% of Golfers. Think of GAPR medium and high. Can also really suggest the Callaway Apex hybrids. They are not as chunky as many other hybrids

    • @andrewmccullough9334
      @andrewmccullough9334 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maxgrahlher2206 5 iron is fine it's the gap between the 2 irons makes the 4 senseless. Have similar swing speed to James just can't get the best out of my 4 iron regularly

    • @maxgrahlher2206
      @maxgrahlher2206 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andrew McCullough Intresting. In that case I my suggestion would be to get a single 4 iron out of a more forgiving and easier launching iron series. Let‘s say you play the Titelst MB, get a T100 4 iron. Or P760, get a P790 iron.
      I have played the GAPR low and I swing 95mph on average. Especially out of lies from the rough it‘s really tough. I have the GAPR low in my bag set at 20 below my 4 iron and it works lovely for me.
      Hope you find your setting

    I have both. The GPS-lo is much better in the light rough the udi is the bomb for in the wind like number 6 on the front nine at my course even cranked down for me it's hard to keep low in 20 mile an hour wind. I hit the ball pretty high though I carry the Gapr most of the time though it's so damn easy for me to hit.

  • @spotmfd9431

    I use the UDI 790. I rarely miss the fairway off the tee and can hit it long and straight off the fairway. I have a slightly steep swing hitting down on the ball and can not hit a hybrid or the GAPR-LO consistently.

    The GAPR low is one of the best DI's ever made. The only issue with it is that it's designed for a better player but the shaft is too light. They should have put a 90-100 gram hybrid shaft in the Lo version.

    Since golf is a game of reducing errors, despite preferring the look of the UDI, I'd have to go the GAPR Low. Of course if TM put out a P790 Ti UDI, I might rethink that :)

  • @9justinSMITH1

    Reading these comments makes me realize I have an unpopular opinion: hitting a lower profile "players" iron to me is like driving a sports car without traction control. Do you want to actually learn how to drive the car to its fullest potential, even if that means wrapping around a couple trees and struggling for a year or two... Then drive the damn thing with traction control off! Or do you want to have a more "out of the box" driving experience... Then drive it with the traction control on. If you're committed to your game (play alot, enjoy practice), then play the club that gives you the most information about your swing that you can stand without pissing yourself off. For me that's the "players distance irons". They're not insane, but they definitely demand a more consistent swing. Has nothing to do with ego, has everything to do with wanting to shrink my MOA by improving my swing, not the forgiveness of my club.

    I currently have the P790 UDI in the bag and I bought it because I wanted something I could rely on to hit a fairway, longer than a 3 iron. It's not particularly forgiving and you will be punished for a bad swing. Really requires you to make a good swing, but the feedback from a solid shot is so buttery smooth. I usually hit this club about 235-240 and greatly prefer the flight over a moon-ball generated by a 5 wood or a hybrid. It's what suits my game best.

    I have both and I found the Lo to be about 20 yards shorter than my UDI. And I can't work the Lo as well as I can the UDI. I kept the Lo in the bag for about 2 months, then swapped it back for the UDI. Just didn't like the performance.

One suggestion: wouldn't it be better presentation wise to present just average GC4 numbers and their SD (like Joel Tadman of Golf Monthly e.g. th-cam.com/video/hgKy-9WvjF0/w-d-xo.html) instead of the always bit shaky video discussions of differences between shots ? After all, it is the average that is relevant and the SD will show us the intershot differences just as good. (or use a tripod)
