Let me know if you have any questions on how to store/organize specific items in your closet! Thank you for watching!
Thank you for this video, Julie. So happy you’ve included a list of the items that you recommend for organization. Would you please do a video on how to organize a home library/office that actually includes a lot of books? My husband and I are great readers and we have a new built in library unit. Thank you.
Currently at designing stage for a very large extra bedroom to become a huge walk-in closet for my wife and myself. Watched a hundred videos until I got to your channel. You really strive to genuinely give usable information and not useless personal crap. Thank you so much. Keep up the great work.
This was great. I have a teeny tiny walk in closet in my master bedroom. I bought a clothing rack similar to #6, and found a vertical shoe shelf on Amazon that fit perfectly into the space next to the clothing rack. I've had to pair things down, but this solution has worked well for me.
You are so right about the doors. My closet is almost 100 inch opening and it had three bipass doors. I took them off and I now use an Extrawide patio door curtain on a traverse rod and it’s so easy to just open up and see my whole huge closet.
Hi, beautiful! I'm a new subbie. I walked into my spare bedroom with complete frustration until I checked this video out 😅 I'm SOOOO glad I did I was able to get lots of inspiration to get it organized ☺️ my daughter is an aspiring interior designer I pray God opens the door for her🙏....
Love the idea of wallpapering the closet! Am so happy you mentioned getting rid of closet doors and replacing them with drapes. Bifold doors make reaching in very clunky. I tried to convince my husband to do that and he looked at me as if I had 3 heads. I am happy to hear I am not the crazy one to think that is a good idea. I must admit that while all doors are clunky at least regular doors can be used to hang things on.
Regular doors get in the way of furniture sometimes when it’s too close to a wall Liz. Absolutely assess your space and come up with the most effective solution 🙌🏻
Julie I cannot tell you how awesome you are! I love your case studies at the end of your videos! I just bought a new home and I will be using this video to organize my closet.
Thank you Julie- I had to watch this twice. Sweaters are an issue for me as I have many & I live in the Midwest, so my winter clothing is big. I am going to try & fold them up to store until later this year. Shoes, I am still trying to figure out a space for a cubbie( ikea/Amazon. I did take the doors off my closet & plan to put curtains up! It’s funny that I should come across your video just as I was decluttering my closets, a purge. Finding storage & solutions is difficult & I love your ideas. I will probably have to watch your ideas again & hope for a way to put things away. Thanks J.
Hi Julie I could have used this sage advice years ago. But if I ever do unload my overflowing closets I think those rack systems would really work to help me get out of the house faster in the morning. I did not really understand what closet planning was until you showed the drawing you did. It’s the only way to really maximize the space. Excellent rendering. I also always use the backs of doors to hang scarves a staple of mine, seasonal brooches I have an Etsy collection of those and belts! See what I mean?😉not a handbag or shoe collector. Have a great week! Thank you😊🤗🥰

Fantastic content as always, Julie! (It literally is the advice I needed currently in my life AND my name is Kelli, so, I really was paying attention!! 😉) Loving your hair in this vid as well!!
Julie, I have clothes in every closet in my small townhouse. I have designated a small bedroom for my clothes closet. I’m not sure it will hold my clothes, shoes and handbags. I have a friend who will help me do a purge. I have two commercial clothes rack; one single rod, one double rod. You have given me some great ideas in this video. If my purging is not successful, I will get a personal organizer! I got myself into this situation by being a shopaholic, especially when I’m sad. I’m working on it though. Thank you for your tips.
The first step is admitting you have a problem Candy 😉 The next step is filling your home only with the things you love (and spark joy a la Marie Kondo). You got this! 🙌🏻🌟
as always- thank you! We have a unique issue thats common in the Prince Edward Island farmhouse. Slanted walls. We are renovating a 200 year old house in the country. The upper floor has slants so the closet has to be built out from there. Your suggestion to take off the doors is brilliant especially for tight spaces. And of course a great excuse to use some amazing fabric! Cheers!
Excellent! I love the wallpaper idea for the background wall. It looks beautiful and it is a really hard place to paint (I usually skip it when painting my room)😅. Thanks for the tips!
As always, your tips are very helpful. I live in an apartment. I bought those portable closet as we have limited space. Thank you for your great tips. Take care👏😊
I will say the back of the doors and above the doors is still usable vertical storage, just not for a closet system install. Over the door hangers and hats above doors is still an option
I would love some videos on how to make design decisions for a new build. In about a year, we are going to build a home from the ground up. I am about to have a breakdown over all the decisions to be made. Flooring, countertops, paint colors, tile...ah! I feel like I can pick things out that I like, but what do I choose first, second, etc.? I do plan to work with a decorator, but due to budget constraints, it will be for a limited amount of time. I want to organize my thoughts and ideas before I visit the designer. How about giving us your tips on working with a designer? It is a little intimidating for me. Thanks Julie.
I have an entire series (10 episodes) dedicated to your custom build blank slate Amanda! It’s called How to Create Your Dream Space and details step-by-step my exact design process for clients. Check it out 👍🏻☺️
All of our closets, in 4 bedrooms, have the sliding doors-they’re absolutely awful! I hate only having access to one side of my closet at a time. They’re even building homes with them as an option again! 😖 I don’t mind bi-fold doors if they have a nice design. I don’t feel they take up any room that you’re using when they’re open. I think I will use some curtains just until I can get bi-folds on our two bedroom closets-like 2 in one room! I was going to paint the slides, but I’m so over them! Thanks for the idea! 👍🏼☺️
Sliding closet doors are very inexpensive for the builder, which is why they always install them Kelly! So glad you found a work around, thank you for watching 🙏🏻☺️
Perfect timing, Julie! Thanks so much! We are trying to devise a plan as I type this! We have a tiny closet in our guest bedroom. In fact, all the closets in the house are small and will be redone. The one we are currently remodeling is 8'x6'x2'. There are 20" on each side. Originally there was one long wood shelf and a rod, then someone installed a high and a low wire shelf that spanned the width of the closet. We definitely do not want the wire system. Can you recommend specifics for this space?
Yup, use the closet kit I linked in the description box Crystal! Those Amazon kits span from 4’ all the way up to 12’ wide. I love the double rods, the central cubbies with or without drawers, the longer garment racks. You can even customize what happens above it like an extra shelf for seasonal items. Good luck! 👍🏻
1940s cottage built as emergency housing for soldiers reintegrating back into society. There were no closets at all, lol. The owners before me sacrificed space in one bedroom to create closets for two side-by-side bedrooms. It's really forced me to reassess my closet priorities. ETA: those acrylic dividers are inspired. I need these.
I have a walk-through closet although its not tiny but organization is a must. I choose not to have closet doors so your wallpaper tip was a great idea. I'm wanting this room/closet to be more cosmetically pleasing as it leads into the bathroom. Creative wheels are turning! 😊
I would add, solid shelf between upper & lower rod (to keep lower hangers from hooking on upper hanging garments). And unless you are short, hang upper rod a bit higher so you can add shallow open trays for belts, scarves, undergarments. I love mine!!
Check out my video on how to style shelving first Tonya! I’ll work on this one, but the trick is to mix it up and add some personal elements alongside the china 👍🏻☺️
Good morning I just found your video. I just purchased a small under 700 square feet two bedroom home and both bedrooms do not have closets (9X8 rooms) So I'm looking at different closet systems. I've been looking on marketplace to cut costs. I've also looked at the pax system at IKEA. I'm trying to look at the best economical system for me. If you have any tips please share❤️
Pax is great, so are those DIY kits that I’ve linked in the description box. If you keep the closet hidden behind doors, the room will feel tidier (but more enclosed), so that decision is up to you Danielle
I have benefited with all of your videos but this one is most important because Kelly's closet is the same as mine with one exception, I have one wall only and my husband as the other half. However, where Kelly has the dresser, I have one too and it is higher. The hanging rods for pants and skirts is a great idea for me. I didn't want to professionally redo the closet but I did need changes to fit my stuff. I also have another closet that has my summer clothes on one side and the other side is clear with no rods or shelving at all. I wanted to utilize it as an everything closet including my printer, shoes, vacuum cleaners and them my china and accessories. Would you show us the best way to do that as well. That closet is the same size as the white closet in this video that was clear and then you showed some closet kits to use. This would help me so much instead of paying $1000.00 to redo this closet. Thank you so much for your wonderful input.
Kelly splits her closet with her husband as well so you are in the same boat Virginia! I’ll add utility closets to my list for the next storage and organization video 👍🏻☺️
I was hoping for a literally small closet guide, like--I have a completely useless narrow and deep coat closet downstairs. I live in the deep south, I do not need a coat closet. it's only 3' wide with a 23" clearance around the door, but all the "small closet guides" seem to be for normal-sized bedroom closets in big houses. Very nice ideas, but not what I would call a "small closet".
First ask yourself, what do I need to store? This closet sounds like the perfect spot for utility items like vacuum cleaners, dust pans, mops, cleaning supplies since it’s deep. You can install rows of upper shelves with pull-out bins for the smaller items. Hope this helps!
I'm meeting with the contractor next week to specify my wants and needs for the primary closet in my new home. I had no real ideas... UNTIL NOW! 💯 Thanks for the tutorial! Can you share the graphic @ 4:14?
All these are great , But the discipline to put back things in the place where it was kept is greater. or we will be organising it every 3 months . Keep / Purge / Trash / Recycle should be a common denominator for all organizations !
HELP: Any suggestions how to lay out a 7 foot x 8.5 foot closet (w/a 8 ft. ceiling) ?? Twist is, it has two, 2 foot wide entry doors on adjacent walls plus a full window opposite one of the doors on the 3rd wall!!! One of the doors are small split pocket doors that go into the closet from the bedroom. The other door is an entry into the bathroom (the door swings into the bathroom). This door is opposite the window. Along the only uninterrupted wall (that faces the pocket doors), there is a rod for dresses plus two shelves above. This section is 3.5 feet long. Abutting that are double hung rods for shirts with a shelf above the bottom rod. This section is 3.5 feet long. Total wall length is 7 feet. The window wall and door walls do not have any rods or shelves on them at all. Only the 7 foot wall opposite the pocket doors have rods. Opposite each other: Window wall = 8.5 ft. Bathroom door wall = 8.5 ft. Pocket door wall = 7 ft. Uninterrupted wall 7 ft. This configuration is so impossible to make work…..it’s driving me nuts!!!!
I’m going to take my bifold doors off! Thanks for suggesting that. I have a question, though. You mentioned underbed storage, but I was under the impression that Feng Shui discouraged anything under the bed. Can you help me understand more about that?
Seasonal under bed storage (that you rarely touch) can be ok if you must have an extra space in tight quarters Heidi. Not recommended, but sometimes we are short on space. 👍🏻☺️
I watch many of your videos and always find them very helpful. I have a closet which is deeper than a reach in closet (35" deep by 55" wide). I would like to utilize the depth to the maximum but don't know how to set up the closet to do so. Would you please help me design my closet. I would really appreciate. I have been struggling with this for about two years. I have two closets with the same dimensions in my bedroom.
Thank you for a great video. Do you have an Amazon store? I would love to purchase a few of the items you recommended to help me organize a reach-in closet.
Thank you for all THE best small closet storage ideas! I've added items to my wish list on Amazon and hope to get my closet in tip top shape this summer. Question, I always thought storing things under the bed was bad feng shui, is that true?
You overlook two very important function having solid doors on your wardrobe. 1) they keep out bugs that eat fabric. 2) they protect your clothes from fading in sunlight. I'm not impressed with having your garments on display permanently, it gives the feeling you're only living there temporarily, like student digs.
The only thing you didn't cover in the video was lighting. I recently saw someone put still lighting around the inside frame of their closet. It wasn't a walk-in, just a standard long closet. It made things so much easier to see but I'm curious as to other options.
How would you store hanging clothes in a fairly steep roof area without taking too much of the floor space? 🧐I put a row of Ikea Malm commodes and that works for drawer storage without going bespoke, but with hanging clothes I can’t figure it out
Wish I could remove those bifold doors on the closet since nothing could be hung or mounted on the backside. This closet has ready been configured for double-hanging closets, has shelves for placing handbags and other things, and a small shoe rack. But the problem with not having those doors mounted is that the west-facing light shines on this reach-in closet and that intense light presents problems with items fading from sunlight overrexposure, especially during the summer. So...for right now, those doors would have to stay in place....
I hate those dips on your shoulders. I got rid of all of my hangers because this kept happening and instead got some that are curved so they never cause that issue even if the item is heavy.bits specially designed to combat that I hate the look of them because I used to have nice wood ones and now I have ugly velvet hangers but everyone seems to love velvet so I’m not complaining too much
Check out my Dream Space series Zainab. I help you determine function first so you know how to lay out new furniture and scale it appropriately for the space. You might need multiple seating groups to fill up the space!
I need to show someone my strange sized closet! It's not small but not big and is triangular in shape! It has a built in system but it just does not work for me and I'm not sure anything will in a triangle spaced closet. Help!

Thank you for the measurement cheat sheet!
Hope it helps guide your layout Patti 🙌🏻☺️
I would add, solid shelf between upper & lower rod (to keep lower hangers from hooking on upper hanging garments). And unless you are short, hang upper rod a bit higher so you can add shallow open trays for belts, scarves, undergarments. I love mine!!
Yes, great move Cathy! 🙌🏻
Great Video!!
Thank you for watching Eliza 🙏🏻☺️

Thank you for watching Dai 🙏🏻☺️
Hi Julie.. thank you for this video. Can you do a video on how to fill a glass cgi a cabinet. Thank you sooo much❣️🇨🇦💕🌹
Check out my video on how to style shelving first Tonya! I’ll work on this one, but the trick is to mix it up and add some personal elements alongside the china 👍🏻☺️
Just came across your video loved it got me inspired to do something with my closet 🤣🤣 haha great job very impressed.
Awesome! Can’t wait to hear what you come up with Christine! 👍🏻☺️
@@JulieKhuu me either hahaha
Thank you!
Thank you for watching Lydia! 🙏🏻💕
Awesome Shavina! Please take a screenshot in the meantime and I’ll have my team share it to my blog (link in description box)
I absolutely loved the idea of installing wallpaper, however, I am not keen on replacing the doors with curtains.
Do what works for you 👍🏻
All these are great , But the discipline to put back things in the place where it was kept is greater. or we will be organising it every 3 months . Keep / Purge / Trash / Recycle should be a common denominator for all organizations !
Discipline will become a habit in 14 days Laila 🙌🏻 You got this 😉
HELP: Any suggestions how to lay out a 7 foot x 8.5 foot closet (w/a 8 ft.
Opposite each other:
Window wall = 8.5 ft.
Bathroom door wall = 8.5 ft.
Pocket door wall = 7 ft.
Uninterrupted wall 7 ft.
This configuration is so impossible to make work…..it’s driving me nuts!!!!
That’s me!
You can wrap the corners with shelves for sweaters, tees, even shoes and accessories. Keep the middle portion open for hanging rods Charanjit 👍🏻
Thank you for a great video. Do you have an Amazon store? I would love to purchase a few of the items you recommended to help me organize a reach-in closet.
I do- it’s linked in the description with a closet section as well 💗
Thank you for all THE best small closet storage ideas! I've added items to my wish list on Amazon and hope to get my closet in tip top shape this summer.
Question, I always thought storing things under the bed was bad feng shui, is that true?
Yes, under bed storage is a no-no. BUT if you rarely move the items in and out (like once a year seasonal pieces), that’s a loophole Alexandra 👍🏻
@@JulieKhuu TY! That'll simplify my storage needs.
Nice ideas 👍👍
Thank you for watching Chitra 🙏🏻☺️
You overlook two very important function having solid doors on your wardrobe. 1) they keep out bugs that eat fabric. 2) they protect your clothes from fading in sunlight. I'm not impressed with having your garments on display permanently, it gives the feeling you're only living there temporarily, like student digs.
Do what works for you and your conditions 👍🏻
The only thing you didn't cover in the video was lighting. I recently saw someone put still lighting around the inside frame of their closet. It wasn't a walk-in, just a standard long closet. It made things so much easier to see but I'm curious as to other options.
Strip lighting would work well for reach-in’s. I’ll cover lighting options in the next closet roundup Sandy! Thank you for watching 🙏🏻☺️
Hi
What kind of curtains would you use instead of closet doors
Anything you see in this video - I love pleated panels on rings for ease of movement Angela!
Your amazing
Thank you for watching Josie 🫶🏻
Hmm, when I think about it more. Yes, the door somehow became a problem.
It always gets in the way when you can only see half of the space with sliders
How would you store hanging clothes in a fairly steep roof area without taking too much of the floor space? 🧐I put a row of Ikea Malm commodes and that works for drawer storage without going bespoke, but with hanging clothes I can’t figure it out
I would measure 40” above the Malm and install a rod there Hedda. Wall to wall if you can.
@@JulieKhuu thank you so much for your reply. Love your channel🌷
Does under bed storage disturb the chi flow of feng shui in the master bedroom?
Yes if you use it daily. Seasonal items are best for under bed storage 👍
You can use tension rods in the threshold or curtains above the opening of the closet. I simply mount it on the wall or from the ceiling
I hate those dips on your shoulders. I got rid of all of my hangers because this kept happening and instead got some that are curved so they never cause that issue even if the item is heavy.bits specially designed to combat that
I hate the look of them because I used to have nice wood ones and now I have ugly velvet hangers but everyone seems to love velvet so I’m not complaining too much
I have a big living room which one part of it is empty and have no idea what to do with it☹️, any suggestions? :🙂

Hi great ideas as always
Plz plz Please give me your great ideas of. Strange for small bedroom shared for boys with small closet

An extra dresser for folded items, plus a cubby bin like the IKEA Kallax is great for toys and books Adeel
I need that pen😍 where is it from?
Pentel! It’s my fave- been using it for decades Rosa!
Hello I have two separate small closets for my husband and I. They are shallow and not that deep
I need to show someone my strange sized closet! It's not small but not big and is triangular in shape! It has a built in system but it just does not work for me and I'm not sure anything will in a triangle spaced closet. Help!
You’ll be able to send me images of your space for my feedback soon! Watch the community page for updates 👍🏻☺️
What is the brand/name of your red marker?
Pentel sign pen - my favorite for decades! I have it in black too ☺️ amzn.to/3KcRf0n
My closet is only 1 deep by about 6 feet wide. Cute tricks, but not practical for a REALLY small closet.
That’s definitely not standard Justine. I would emphasize double rods to maximize storage
