Just giving everyone a reminder - If you are using rental skates, you will most likely have a tougher time skating because compared to leather skates, plastic does not fit your feet well or form to your feet. Plus, a LOT of others have been wearing them, and everybody has a different foot type, so it won't fit you perfectly which isn't good when skating. When I first went skating I got blisters and I had a hard time and the skates felt like they didn't fit either. I couldn't really skate without the walkers that they provide. I kind of learned the twizzle thing on my own by watching others and trying it for myself, but I still had a hard time skating. Nice tutorial! I wish I had my own good pair of skates to practice with. I honestly love going to the ice rink, as long as there isn't a lot of other kids there so I can learn at my own pace without others bumping into me (my public rink is next to a bunch of elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school, so all of the kids go there during the winter when it's open). Have fun! c:
Ah, I thought the rental skates might have been why I couldn't skate well. I have small narrow feet and even though they fit length wise, width wise they were somewhat big and caused blisters on my ankle when they rubbed against it. They also made me feel really off balance, and I have a pretty good sense of balance since I danced for 13 years. Thankfully I got the general idea of skating after 30 minutes, but it was hard and I needed to stay next to the wall in case I lost my balance. I only fell once, so not bad for my first time.
Yes i know, that it takes time to skate. I just went round the edge of rink holding onto side. I found watching the video gave me confidence to go. Next time i will try out the moves perhaps?
Watching this because I didn't had full control over the feet first time today. I had fallen more than twenty occasions. Will be going with confidence coming week. I hope I will not disappoint myself this time.
Thank you for inspiring such confidence - I moved to a cold country and now I want to learn how to ice skate as an adult. You provide me with the encouragement I need.
Hello! I am a figure skater and I was just watching some videos because I'm bored but just so you know you always want to lace your skates (Around the hooks) over the top. I can't explain it well, but if you watch videos on "How to lace skates the right way" and such, they should show you that you lace it over the top of the hook, It holds the lace better.
Thank you. I have watched this before heading out tonight for Ice skating. I need more practice but was able to return w/o falling or breaking anything! :-) thanks.
This video was very helpful I'm going ice skating tomorrow for the first time and I was really scared but now I feel a bit better about going thank you
Thanks! My cousin and her sister and I are going ice skating today with my other cousin and brother and this helped her a lot and she is 6 years old. Thanks once again!!
Nice tutorial. I think the main thing to emphasize however, is that when going forwards you are pushing with your heel (heel cuts) or back one third of the inside edge, and when going backwards one pushes with the front third of the inside edge. Otherwise, spot on!
Here at the mall and I saw people ice skating. And my brother and I are going to be ice skating, so I decide to see this video to help me learn how to ice skate. And thanks!
nice tutorial,,i just start ice skating yesterday for the first tym and i fell 10x in 45 mins..and now im thinking if im gonna continue coz i got bruises in my both palm..but after watching this video i think i go for it..
what a great video!!! Best part, after running smack into the wall, "maybe we should learn how to stop!" hahahaha Thanks so much for this really great basic tutorial!

Do not mistake swizzle for twizzle they are completely different things
+Aubrey Fontenot lol the "twizzles" are actually called front bubbles XD
+PawsofHarmmony I experienced the same thing with rental skates, so I had to go buy my own.
Not to mention rusty blades. Most, if not all people don't wipe those blades dry after skating, and neither does the skate rental employee.
