This is a very sufficient Video for learning Hockey,Basically you need to teach to use the inside and outside edges to stop not just turning,Just turning will not make a stop,on your blade you have 2 edges,the inside edge and outside edge,you need to find one of the edges like the inside edge so you go turn and use that edge to dig into the ice.

Just started going to my local rink for fun and bought my own skates and this is real helpful, thank you!
I got all the entry level hockey stuff on de bat but i cannot master backwards crossovers
If it helps, I always use my non dominant foot to crossover, and that’s the only side that I Can do. Step one is to skate forwards, then do a Mohawk pivot to turn backwards and maintain speed, and just slide your foot in front of the other one, and bring the back foot out
Should the skates be uncomfortable on your shins when you bend your knees?
No, it means you have them tied to tight. Try not tying the top eyelet if you want your laces to be tied as tight as you can. Or learn to skate with your laces loose.
No. You need to get fitted skates

This video is great and nice, i just watched this and it looks like im skateing like that but the thing i cant do is stop so im always running in to the wall this really helped
Slowly take your right foot point it towards the left one. Slow down as you skate and slide your right foot along the ice push it like a shovel and turn your hips to the left.
It's always fun bc we go ice skating with school and theres like this normal lane thing and a big ass square So me and my friends always fuck around there like maniacs.

So I use figure skates when I go skating. I would say I'm pretty good, I don't fall but I don't do crossovers. How difficult would it be to transition from figure skates to hockey skates? Thanks!
Not very. If youre a professional figure skater it would be more difficult because a hockey skate has no toe pick and a shorter blade which are vital for figure skaters but if youre not it should be okay. Maybe a little harder to balence and stopping is a little different but you'll get use to it within like 20 minutes of being on the ice :)

I have ice skated for years, and a play triple A hockey. I'm so with you on the whole carry stuff in your pockets, it slows you down and is a real pain. Plus you can break a phone if you fall or burry your keys into your leg.

Very good and pretty educational video Vinnie. I love NHL hockey and the different types of ice skating but I’ve never tried ice/figure skating or even hockey skating before at all oddly enough. But I am hoping to try it soon here in my hometown of Saint Louis Missouri at any of our local ice rinks. I’m not much of a New Jersey Devils fan at all but where I come from I am a Saint Louis blues fan even though as long as the Saint Louis blues have existed throughout all these years they’ve never won a Stanley Cup but I’m hoping they win it soon. So in that case LETS GO BLUES! Jason.
best thing that ever happened is when the new style molded skates came out in the middle 1970s . way easier to skate with the skates now compared to the old tube blades and leather boots . if you did lots of skating with the old style skates they were wore out in one season

I've never have skated before and I kinda want to. Well the last time I did skate last year my feet turned inward and I couldn't do anything so I stopped.
I use regular next time I'm gonna try hockey skates
My problem with skating is I can’t balance on one foot long enough off the ice let alone on the ice to go from one foot to the other lol! I used to skate alright though. Just getting back into it but wow! My balance is REALLY BAD

I find figure skating easier? I feel too unbalanced on hockey skates. I learned how to skate in figure skates and it’s really easy I skated first try no falling. But with hockey skates it feels slippery there’s no grip.

Do these tips help for street hockey? I'm learning this first because ice hockey doesn't start for a long while.
Inline skates are similar but some will tell you it's very different.The biggest difference between inline skating and ice is that the way you stop is very different.

Honestly (LOL) I haven't had my skates sharpened in 10+ Years so I really don't remember. :( I moved to a new town and there's no ice rinks around :( I miss skating so much!

My Mom managed an Ice Rink for years when I was a child. Trust me I've seen the worst of concussions, broken ligaments, cut heads, bloody fingers sliced across the ice... BE SAFE PEOPLE!!

How do people stand straight up on skates without falling
I know the basics, but I tend to bend wayyy to close to the ice. I throw my ass back like I have scoliosis and idk how to stop doing that. I look so stupid.
Find a focal point in the ice rink to keep your eye level at instead of looking down at the ice look at the plexy glass across from you. That may help! Not too look too high or to low. A hockey coach once told me bend your knees like you're taking a crap on the toilet. May look weird but you'll be well balanced. - Vinnie

That's okay, you can try crossing over to your left as well. Just do it when its safe and ice is open during public skate so you don't get a collision!
