Its not about the wielder it's about the quality of the blade itself, these guys are experts in the field and know what they're talking about, a blade's performance is not dependent on the age of the wielder, a good blade is a good blade regardless

He might have went through and hit the stand but he went through a small chunk of the skull still left on the stand... he didn't just swing at the stand. Plus it was the handle that sent the guy home anyway not the blade itself.
Test 1: does WAY better than the other. Test 2: does so well that the horse skull is destroyed in fewer number of swings...so the judge hits the metal stand instead. Result: Loses. What a joke.
That part was wood. The back part of the brace is metal but the platform the skull sits on is wood. You can CLEARLY see the wood where it was cut in the previous strikes. I don't see how people are so blind they can't see wood.

But even Doug contained bout a small handle and control issues. He's also a martial artist who prolly can compensate for a wonky handle, while the other judge is a master bladesmith who's gonna judge the sword from that pov.

There's almost nothing worse than trying to cut with a blade that has a bad handle. You just end up cutting your hand instead or at best painful hot spots that make you want to throw it to the ground. Its unfortunate he lost for the handle but I agree with the judges. I suspected most people that have used blades or swords for more than opening boxes would agree as well.
I understand the strength rest isn't what the blade does to the object but what the object does to the blade but...they might want to make both a consideration.

Was it meant for deadly usage like killing and inflicting serious pain or was it like a tribal dagger that represents superiority or something to a high ranking person? Because nick's sword was insane! I was shocked at how it performed in both tests: cuts the deer in half, shatters everything from the skull with almost nothing remaining to hit and yet he still loses just because of his handle??? like wtf? Maybe if it was like a tribal sword/symbol, then i would have understood that handle design would be important but his blade was vicious! Idk about you guys but when it comes down to comfortable handle vs effectiveness, i would choose effectiveness any day. if it really is that uncomfortable, then put something around the handle or wear gloves!
In european military a "Pioneer" is a military engineer, so these swords were as much a tool as a personal defense weapon, maybe even more so. So for something you use for hard labor, a comfortable handle is very important.
everyone in the comments saying how he lost because of the chipping, when they all clearly say it was because of the handle being uncomfortable to use. the blade is excellent but you wouldn't want to use it because the handle makes it hurt your hand.

Comfort is a huge deal when you are swing a sword with full force if it feels out of control in your hand that's a very big deal.
