    This looks amazing. It's a shame big IP's like STAR TREK can't work with devs like this. Like always, their games are flashy and hollow. This looks sleek and substantive. Will be buying.

      I agree fully with you here...I would add that he vast majority of the Star Trek IP games have emphasized phew phew combat...the wonder diplomacy cooperation and science and magic of space exploration and seeking out new life new worlds seems to be missed...This sorely needs to be rectified given computer graphics are capable of so much...Here's hoping this team or a similar team can work on the next Star Trek game. 😇🤩❤☮

    Just played the demo and I must say I am impressed. There's not much content yet, but it's a demo after all. What's already there is quite impressive on its own. The game is already very immersive somehow. The procedural galaxy is quite amazing. I can definitely say that this game offers offers quite a unique experience. The most memorable moment that I had when playing demo: I was departing a random star system when I decided to leave the cockpit and run around. I entered the observation deck and I saw how the sunlight on the walls gets dimmer and dimmer as the starship leaves the star's vicinity. I know it's not the most technically complex thing to implement, but for some reason this effect impressed me quite much. I then ran to the cockpit and shut down the FTL drive. I looked outside and it was dark. Very dark. That's when I realised on a visceral level that my starship was a small island of life separated from the rest of universe by trillions of miles of the void, hanging in complete darkness. It was uncanny. I don't think I've experienced this particular thing in any other game.
    That being said, it's evident that a whole lot of work (maybe most of it) are still ahead for the development team. There is a lot of potential that needs to be realised. I hope this game succeeds.
    If that's the kind of experience that the game can provide now, imagine what it will be like when there is more content.I will be following the development closely.
    I really hope some kind of VR support will be added eventually. All the interactable consoles, buttons and switches would make for an amazing VR experience.
    ps this game really needs a map/minimap of some sort, it's very easy to get lost in the ship interior if you haven't learned the layout yet

    This is what i have been waiting for since the Living-Room Partygame "Artemis Starship Simulator". When we played Elite Dangerous as a clan back then and Multicrew was introduced, we hoped that we would finally experience the feeling of a spaceship crew, but were bitterly disappointed. Now it seems that this dream is finally coming true, although our clan no longer exists in its original form, as we have grown older and many can no longer or no longer want to play as intensively as we did back then, and thus we have become lesser in number.

      @@ComdrStew Last Christmas holiday I played Elite again for 2-3 months with my girlfriend and a buddy. I found the outside worlds and space stations enjoyable enough (my girlfriend realy loved to do exobiology, whereas my buddy found it far too boring just to gather mushrooms). Unfortunately its too little interaction between the players no matter outside or as multicrew you can salute each other and thats all... I still have hope that there will be interiors for the spaceships at some point, but you can bet that they will only be available for ingame shop money, just like the cosmetic exterior parts. We massively farmed credits to be able to afford a carrier and where stunned for about 1 hour walking inside, but only hopped around with it for 2-3 jumps and then the air was out. Maybe next Christmas again.

The scale of the galaxy, the scale of the ship (a fully realized, or will be fully realized, ship with 200 plus rooms where every screen, door, wire, room, etc. has purpose and works in synergy with the vessel to bring the vessel to a fully sense of immersion), and the core gameplay loop offers what can only be described as the game that I and so many others have dreamed for a space sim.
    Perhaps my biggest compliment I can give to you and those whose have gotten this project to its point is that, as someone who has a passion for space, exploration, sci-fi, and is humbled by man’s place in the universe, I am fully invested in such a project that has spirit, depth, breadth, and showcases what the future for mankind may hold in the stars.
    I know the game is just a demo right now, but I’m positive that it will take the space sim community for a ride not seen in a while (or ever). Please, take your time. Play test, craft, sculpt and expand your universe into the game that we all want it to be.
    I want to be able to go out into the country at night and stare into the cosmos and know that, through your universe, I have seen the potential that exists as man truly discovers it’s final place in this humbling universe that we call home. I want to know that, even though I probably won’t see in my lifetime the sights and splendor of the universe, that I was born just in time to be able to explore as realistically plausible of a universe as possible.
    Am I expecting a perfect launch…no. Game development is hard, and we as the end consumers don’t see the long nights, spent weekends, empty cans of coffee and energy drinks, and the long list of builds that never made it to the public. What we do see is the sacrifice that the artists, the craftsmen, put into a passion project.
    I hope this game launches soon, for I will be waiting that day, hungry for what you can bring and what your creation has been shaped with love and care to be.

    Star Trek RPG-X, early Face of Mankind & early Star Wars Galaxies had the best roleplaying communities, PERIOD. In large part that was due to the games thst they had formed on, especially RPG-X because its the most relevant. At its core, it's just a map of the Enterprise D with sittable seats, holdable objects from tri corders to phasers to coffee mugs, with tons upon tons of alien races, and all the community had to do was create episode-style stories that anyone can join and interact with everyone else. The only rule was thst you *were* your character. It was amazing.
    I doubt this game will have that hardcore of a community as it is incredibly niche within an already niche genre/demand, but there is so much potential for this to be *the* roleplaying game. Star Citizen comes close but there are too many gamey systems that allow other players to not interact in anything other than FPS shooter, so when you encounter another player they say hello out of sheer excitement, remember they have a gun/armed gunship and blow you away.

    • @AngryB4ker
      @AngryB4ker ปีที่แล้ว

      To that end, I am BEGGING for a GM/Zeus mode similar to Arma III if one isnt already included or in the works. To allow players to create scenarios on the fly will be absolutely AMAZING.

    • @StarshipSimulator
      @StarshipSimulator  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We're very keen to provide the RP community with robust tools, so we'll be implementing a D&D style GM mode where the GM can move the ship around, spawn encounters, spawn themselves as a story character, cause random ship failures, etc etc. We'll work with the community on this to make sure it ticks all the right boxes.

    My only complaint is that my computer can't run a masterpiece like this. It's held together by duct tape and glue, and can barely run Minecraft without overheating.

    • @StarshipSimulator
      @StarshipSimulator  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Everything in the game is based on real world science, technology and organisations. The internal aesthetic is inspired by retrofuturism art and architecture by the likes of Zaha Hadid. You won't find anything in the game that's a copy of an existing IP, be it visually or otherwise. Any similarity to Trek for example, is simply because it inherits from the same source material, which is naval tradition and human space exploration.
      A lot of the ship's external design is actually inspired by the Jupiter 2 from Lost in Space, but future ships will come in many different shapes and sizes. The Magellan is the only ship that will be roughly saucer-like.
      Ultimately we want this to be uniquely our own, with our own lore, characters and stories :)

    • @gmhs2
      @gmhs2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@StarshipSimulator I've seen this a lot in marketing, but the biggest red flag to me about this is that the ship has gravity in style with Star Trek, a complete impossibility with our current understanding of physics, as the only ways to handle artificial gravity is through thrust or centrifuges, which would be against the direction of thrust (and only when burning) and radially outward from the rotation point respectively. Is this just temporary for the demos, or is there some other explanation?

    • @StarshipSimulator
      @StarshipSimulator  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@gmhs2 The artificial gravity is using the same science as the FTL, where high-energy fields create artificial mass to compress space. In the case of the artificial gravity a series of coils on the underside of the ship are energised to create enough artificial mass to generate approximately 1G of gravity pulling down on all decks. The strength of the gravity falls off as an inverse square, so A deck has a bit less gravity than G deck. The field is also balanced above and below, so the underside of the ship has inverse gravity, allowing the crew to walk upside down on the lower hull. The field is weak laterally, so approaching shuttles experience only a minor amount of "falling" towards the rear of the ship. Pilots should take care flying beneath the ship however, as they will be pulled upwards into the hull.
