We really do love Washington and Oregon! But, we really do chase the sunshine and high 70's for sure. This year we got into the Poulsbo area in late September and it was great for the first week or so..... then the rain and cold hit! But we will always be back! Thanks for watching.😃

A Bluetooth code reader is like $30 on Amazon. I use android so I use the "Torque" app (Can't make any recommendations for IOS). Not only will it give you tons of info on codes, but it can also access lots of sensors / gauges for real-time info (like intake air temperature, boost, coolant temperature, etc.). Haven't needed the gauges yet on my sprinter, but they can be very useful for diagnosing certain problems.
We use a small convection heater in the motorhome. It’s so efficient, silent, and no emissions. Especially great when you are plugged in. The RV heats up nicely, and the thermostat keeps the temperature steady. Compact and easy to store. A must if camping in the cold. Hope you warm up soon !!
Hello! Agreed, an electric space heater makes it much more comfortable than the propane heater! We use a Vornado brand and also love it! Thanks for watching!
As far as the reduced MPG, there is a Diesel Particulate Filter regen cycle vehicle's go through to keep the filter clean. Some of the better, manufacturer specific OBD2 tools can start a regen cycle manually. You usually need to drive a bit after to finish the cycle. From what I have read, the quality of diesel fuel you use has a big impact on regen and problems with the diesel particulate emissions systems. At least for Porsche (fancy VW) diesels, they have a very specific spec for OIL spec, C30. I would be careful with the oil changes and make sure an oil with manufacturer spec is used. I also run a cetane boost, which I introduced slowly. If the quality of your diesel is marginal, as you need to buy from places with low turnover, etc, I would also replace the fuel filter more frequently (every other oil change?), and make sure the chamber the fuel filter sits in is vacuumed out, as it is designed to collect water and impurities at the bottom.
Good morning. Thanks for the notes on the system. We did have a dealer do a regen under warranty, back in April of 2019 and the MPG's were just bad from around a year later (6-20) for just a couple months. Then the light came back on(9-20), but the MPG's were noticeably better. This MB emissions system is definitely the Achilles heal of the Sprinter van! Light is still off 2 months later and MPG's are still good. We will check out cetane boost, thanks again!
Obviously I hadn't seen this video when I made my comment about DEF on your more recent videos. Fortunately I haven't had any issues with my sprinter yet (fingers crossed) but the first failure after the warranty is over and the system is gone.
Yeah, the system is overly complicated and way too expensive! They tried to hit us with $2k for a couple sensors and a regen on the CC just outside the warranty. Got it covered by a little bit of persistence! I do need to do a maintenance video covering our experiences.

I'll check that one out. There are also generic ones I've seen for around $10 bucks for android call "elm 327", but I'm sure the Blue Driver does a who lot more. Thanks!
Hey guys, I am loving all your videos. I am looking at a used 2015 interstate lounge so I have been binge watching everything airstream. You make the life look so wonderful🙂 you have a nice relationship so that is enjoyable to watch as well. Question for you about keeping your tanks from freezing... I know you have some tank heaters but is that enough if you chose to stay in a frigid/freezing environment during winter months? Or do you just stay ahead of the frost by heading south?
Hey Robert, thanks for watching. We definitely seek warmer weather for sure, but you get caught sometimes in cold streaks and hot as well. The interstate is not a 4 season coach with the exposed water lines, but we have been in the high 20's overnight. (Did not use the tank heaters as you need to be plugged in for extended use) The water didn't have time to freeze as the daytime temps went back to the 50's. 30s overnight are doable with the heater running alot, 40's over night are much better, but still chilly, and the 50's overnight you might not need the heater at all.
@@IreneIronTravels Great to hear from you guys! Thanks for such a good response... Really. I live in NY and I am very close to pulling the trigger on this purchase... Thought the big girl could manage cold on her own heaters, etc. So many unknowns! That's why I am loving your videos! You show all the ups and downs with the rig. I have learned a lot from you guys. I live in WA and am so ready for warm weather and sunshine but since I'm new to driving a van I'm a little intimidated about going over the mountain pass to California this time of year... besides right now it's almost as cold in Cali as it is here! I was wondering though... you didn't show any mountain pass video and you were on a lot of two lane roads... did you drive the coast highway 101?
We actually went straight down the 5 and drove through Oregon this year and right into San Fran. It was getting late in October and just too cold. After SF we did the hug the coast and took the 1 through Big Sur and to Pismo beach. Then over to Palm Springs for the holidays. There we found our 80's and 70's! Now we are in AZ and enjoying the desert 🏜
Was that you guys we saw on Highway 101 just south of Buellton this morning? I looked in my rear view mirror after passing you and saw your covered bikes and figured it must be you. Glad you found warm weather here on the central coast. Enjoy!
Must have been our doppelgangers! But, funny we did just drive through that area last week! We started to notice a lot more camper vans as we got into California though. We are enjoying the sun and warmth! Thanks!😃
Hello! They are called WeatherTech mats and you can get them on Amazon or their website. The are custom for each vehicle and stay in place very well, but are also easy to remove for cleaning!
Wow what a temperature and scenery change! Gotta love drive days! I am so glad you told about using the engine scan at the auto parts store! That is super helpful!! The pads in the front windows also look like they could be bullet proof vests - so there ya go - dual purpose! I remember going through the ag stop a month or so ago when we went from Oregon to Cali and they wanted to inspect all of our firewood - it took a long time cuz they looked through it with a fine tooth comb. I love the water idea - how much water do you drink in the morning? Fun video and fun time chasing the sunshing! Noelle
Hey there! We have a 16,000 BTU propane heater that does very well in cold weather in the 30's. We have 4 lithium batteries and they do really well for keeping us off grid for about a week. Thanks for watching!😃
Does your air conditioning have an electric heater or heat pump mode? You probably don't since you have the propane heater, but you never know... Not sure if a diesel heater would be worth the space and headache to install, but they're very cheap for what they offer.
Our AC doesn't have the heat pump, which is ok by me. When we are plugged in we use a quiet Vornado space heater. The AC is soo loud! I think if we did a build we would look into the diesel heater for sure!
It's not bad. Tight space, especially if you are tall or big, but you take pretty quick showers in a RV. After showering, you do a quick squeegee of everything and it dry's in about 10-30 minutes, depending. No problems with the toilet.😃
Thanks for the reply. I'm hesitant to purchase a Class B solely because of the shower setup, but since the two of you are okay with it, I should be able to handle it.
It definitely takes a bit to get used to compared to a "real" shower, but in a small space like a class b I would rather have more living space than bathroom space. A tip to make it feel better, is to upgrade the plastic toilet to a porcelain bowl slow close lid for about $200. That helps bring a residential fell back to the room!
I would cover them, Amber from Story Chasing has a Rad mini. She covers hers. Also you can add plug in strip lights, hopefully hooks into break lights. We have the RV with 1/2 toy hauler, so ours are enclosed.
Hey guys it's old dbl66 again, fyi I have a 9" xtron andriod head unit and it came with a obd2 Bluetooth scanner and so I can see any codes our engine info on my head unit it's pretty good. You might look in to for your unit. Have a great day and stay warm .😊
Hey there! I've been eyeing those BT OBD2 modules for like a year now but haven;t got one....... and there only like $10 or$20 bucks too! Good to hear it works well. I'll have to order one next time I get something form amazon. Thanks!
Our bikes are on the front - no cover - and yes they are filthy most of the time. We downhill mountain bike though, so ours get dirty anyway. If we got Ebikes we would probably cover them. EBikes look so fun.... the hard choices we have to make on the road - which toys to take
@@IreneIronTravels The only rust spots were where there were scratches from crashes! But we are also not full time and we bring the bikes indoors in between trips. So not exactly the same situation as you guys.
Another fantastic video !! Better mileage,Wow !!! Black outs great to have. Boy oh boy lots and lots of driving to get to California . Very informative on this video . Cold to a nice place .I envy you two. Thank you for sharing. BS &BK
Thanks for the videos they really mean a lot to many be more casual ,post more videos,as requested before make sure you cover all the villages and towns on your route and make sure you explore them to the very inch 👍
We really do like them. But, they take a bit of getting used to. Not as easy to use as u lock or cable lock, but is larger than then the u lock and much stronger than a cable. Love the storage cradle on the bike too!
Thank you! We just spent some time around the San Francisco area and Big Sur. We have never been to either and SF might be our new favorite city! Big Sur is just one of those places you need to see. California is so big....lots of beautiful places to see!
😊 We didn't make it to Redwood..... That looks like a beautiful area and we will have to hit it next time! Our first stop was Cloverdale a bit south of there.
Yes, usually we set the thermostat to about 63 degrees or so when the temp drops into the 40's. When the overnight temp is in the 50's the inside temp stays pretty comfortable. We use a three blanket system (not including the bottom fitted sheet) that consists of a light top sheet, a medium weight duvet cover, and a medium down comforter with duvet cover. This way we can use the three in different combinations depending on the temps... hot or cold. One thing we are thinking about adding in from a recommendation from RV with Tito is a 12v heated blanket with timer. Brian swears by them and I would image they would be pretty toasty in cold weather. Something like this amzn.to/3kzF1kT
Hi Lulu, thanks for the warm welcome :) There were a TON of fruit flies up in Washington this year. The locals explained it was due to apple harvest time that we were there. It feels good to be in sunny CA.
Have a safe trip down here to California. If your already here, welcome to warner country. Your cab floor met looks like a good one. Could you post the information, if you haven't already? Thanks.
Thanks, We are loving the 80's! The floor mat is from Weather Tech, a MN company, and they are great. Kinda expensive, but we always used them to keep our vehicles clean from snow, slush, salt, dirt, etc. Super easy to pull out and clean/empty and they hold a good amount of liquid if you spilled something!
Mercedes guys do not want you to clear the codes because sometimes a cleared code might NOT come on again. Therefore they lose the business. (Min $350) They want you to become dependent on them. Worst case scenario the code will come back again. I have a 2007 diesel sprinter (same engine) with NO DEF system. I'm very happy because DEF systems are very unreliable, and have become a real money pit. Best advice: buy a OBD II scanner and a few sensors. You can buy a $50 sensor on the web and you can replace it very easily instead of paying the dealer min $600 plus precious time. Good luck!
Thanks for the comment! Yes, the DEF systems are way too complicated and can become problematic it seems! Once we are outside of the emissions warranty, I am also one that would do the work myself! Thanks for watching!
Great video! Bikes on the beach looks awesome. Like Aaron, I only wear pants when an absolute must. Grew up in So Cal and shorts is the only way to go! Keep up your great outdoor videos. You're helping convince my wife to give RVing a try when we retire this Summer. Safe travels and have a gnarly Cali day!😎
Hey guys! Ordered a Himiway e-bike...can't wait for it to arrive next month. I have a Sequence 20K...what is the brand/model rack that you are using on the Airstream?
Hello! Congrats on the Himi! Your going to love having an ebike. We have the 2021 Hollywood Sport Rider (HR1500) for fat tire ebikes and love it. It has an 80lb per bike limit. It's sold out at Hollywood, but Rad has it on their site. bit.ly/2UtO8sN
Thanks for watching! Our first long travel day was Ocean Shores Wa, to Medford Or about 440 miles. Google maps has it at about 7 hours, but it always takes us longer in the van! We typically drive on the slower side and make frequent rest room stops!
@@IreneIronTravels I guess I see it as too many hours for the miles is because the only long trips I have been doing is from LA to Vegas, a nice straight line. LOL
Omgosh I feel you on the cold in my chest!! Thanks for touching on this side of things! It's hard to be stuck inside, stay positive like you have been and drive fast! Lol you guys got this!
Yes, it's relentless in the PNW! We found this dehumidifier and air purifier combo on Amazon for about 70 bucks. It's small and says it works up to 230sf. Love it so far, and use the air purifier when no need to dehumidifier! amzn.to/2Uurfp8
If we are plugged in somewhere we use our electric Vornado space heater. Makes it a nice constant comfortable temperature. But, if we are not plugged in, while boondocking or a quick overnight spot, we use the van's built in propane heater. It makes it very toasty quickly, but it can be loud when it cycles on and off. Also, can get drafty if its really cold out in between cycles. With our upgraded lithium battery system we don't have to worry about running out of battery power, but depending on the RV it might drain them down. Typically you would'nt need the generator until the next morning to recharge your batteries back up, depending on your setup.
Thanks for showing us what non-Instagram #vanlife is like! From a fellow upper Midwesterner, your blood did sure thin quickly. Haha! But hey - if I were a nomad and had the option to go to where the perfect temperature is all the time I would do the same thing! On that note, put Michigan in your route plans for next spring/summer when it’s perfect temps here and more beaches. The mitten seems to get left out of your loops around the country...
Yeah, I think we were just so over the cold, snowy, and long Midwest winters..... we just can't hang anymore! You're right, we need to do Michigan! We went to Sleeping Bear Dunes once years ago and it was amazing up there. Next year!

We highly recommend covering your bikes. We have 2 bicycles on the back of our Boldt camper van. They are not e bikes but they are large frames. We have tried a couple covers and recently ordered this one www.etrailer.com/s.aspx?qry=2_bike_cover&furl=-pg-RV_Covers. We highly recommend it! We've traveled thousands of miles and it has worked great. A couple features are (1) bikes are totally covered and (2) the straps keep it from flapping. We drove through snow and the bikes stayed dry and clean. Rain and snow make for rusty parts. This cover is plenty big for our bikes with room to spare. Our bikes hang on our rack so not the same as yours but take a look.
Oh great, thanks for sharing your experiences! I'll check that one out. We did end up with a Pro Bike Tool cover already and also really like it so far. Nice to have clean bikes when you get to your destination! Thanks for watching and commenting!

Good Morning ☕️ Another great video ~ The states agriculture department does Not Care about produce bought in grocery stores. Pests are what they’re concerned with. Farm field produce or plants (with soil) is what they’re after. Makes sense ya know? Sometimes a whole batch of brussels sprouts would be ruined by little bugs! Protein??? Sweatpants in the socks....... That could be a popular new fashion trend! 😳
We did! It is a Dometic CRX110 from their Marine line. We love it. Our old fridge was just a little too small for two people full time. It is about 30% bigger than the old one and I had to cut the kitchen side panel to make it fit. Scary, but it worked out pretty well.😳

You guys are awesome.
Thanks for watching! 😃
What brand are your floor mats & where did you purchase the mats? Do the mats remain in place?
Hello! They are called WeatherTech mats and you can get them on Amazon or their website. The are custom for each vehicle and stay in place very well, but are also easy to remove for cleaning!
Thanks for the quick response & good morning.
😃 Good morning!

How disel heater works at Washington? Very smooth video, nice couple too,☮️✌️🥞3 battery keep up with a demand?
What is it like to shower in a Class B RV? Is a wet toilet a problem?
Thanks for the info! We saw Amber's setup and it looked nice. Makes sense to cover them for sure! Thanks for watching!
EBikes look so fun.... the hard choices we have to make on the road - which toys to take
Have they started to rust or weather badly? The cover can be a pain, but it sure helps! Loving the ebikes! Decisions, decisions!
@@IreneIronTravels The only rust spots were where there were scratches from crashes! But we are also not full time and we bring the bikes indoors in between trips. So not exactly the same situation as you guys.
Makes sense. Maybe that's why I see more uncovered bikes, then covered. Just using them for their current trip.....
Roadtrip episodes are the best!
Road trip!😎
You guys are amazing! Looks super adventurous. Have fun and be safe!
Thanks for watching!😀
Hi Soua - It's great to hear from you. I hope you and your family are doing great!! - Chris
Another fantastic video !! Better mileage,Wow !!! Black outs great to have. Boy oh boy lots and lots of driving to get to California . Very informative on this video . Cold to a nice place .I envy you two. Thank you for sharing. BS &BK
Thanks Larry! We're happy to be in warmer weather and the van is running great. Thanks for watching! BS & BK !
Thanks for the videos they really mean a lot to many be more casual ,post more videos,as requested before make sure you cover all the villages and towns on your route and make sure you explore them to the very inch 👍
Thank you so much for the nice comment and for watching!
How do you like the folding locks mounted on your Rad Rovers?
We really do like them. But, they take a bit of getting used to. Not as easy to use as u lock or cable lock, but is larger than then the u lock and much stronger than a cable. Love the storage cradle on the bike too!
Welcome to California! Where do you plan to visit?
If you plan to come to socal, it's a perfect time to visit Joshua Tree, Death Valley, Anza borrego, Salton Sea and more
Thank you! We just spent some time around the San Francisco area and Big Sur. We have never been to either and SF might be our new favorite city! Big Sur is just one of those places you need to see. California is so big....lots of beautiful places to see!
Thank you for the suggestions! We haven't seen Anza Borrego, the Salton Sea or Death Valley!
I knew it had to be cold because, Chris, your ears were so red...ouch!!! Will you go to the Redwood National Park? We loved it!
😊 We didn't make it to Redwood..... That looks like a beautiful area and we will have to hit it next time! Our first stop was Cloverdale a bit south of there.
@@IreneIronTravels Yes, next time. Just saw you on Adventure Endeavor....great job!
Thank you!
You said you turned on the heater when the night temp was 40 degrees. That would be very cold for me. Do you recommend any warm blankets that you use?
California welcomes you back! One of the reasons for Dept. of Agriculture checks is that we’ve had problems with fruit flies.
Hi Lulu, thanks for the warm welcome :) There were a TON of fruit flies up in Washington this year. The locals explained it was due to apple harvest time that we were there. It feels good to be in sunny CA.
Shorts are so much more comfortable!
Yes, totally! Who needs pants! 😀
I have hot weather envy! I enjoyed the video, but I do laugh as pants in the UK are known as underwear! Enjoy the sun.
That's funny! We'll I guess some people don't wear those either!😂😅 Thanks for watching!
@@IreneIronTravels Thanks
I have camped nearly 400 days in my Airstream, almost all of them in California. Can't beat the year round weather and beauty here.
Hey there! Agreed, it sure is beautiful country with great weather! 😎
Great video! Bikes on the beach looks awesome. Like Aaron, I only wear pants when an absolute must. Grew up in So Cal and shorts is the only way to go! Keep up your great outdoor videos. You're helping convince my wife to give RVing a try when we retire this Summer. Safe travels and have a gnarly Cali day!😎
Thanks John! Who needs pant's when you have Cali! 😂 We hope you guys DO give Rving a try! Great way to see this beautiful country! ✌
Why can’t u erase the code?
The dealer can't read the code to see what the problem is if you erase it before going to them.
Enjoy your watching your journey! Did I hear right, 400 miles in 8 hours? Seems like it's a lot of hours for the miles.
Thanks! We are now enjoying the 80's in Cali! 😎
Minnesota is a lot colder than Washington isn't it? Thanks for sharing.
It is! Except last week when they hit the high 70's and it was only 58 in San Francisco! But, soon they will be freezing and full of snow!!!!
I don't like to wear shoes...just flip flops
Nice! We agree....... or socks. Who needs em!
I remember all the humidity in my trailer while in Oregon in October! What dehumidifier works for you?
Yes, it's relentless in the PNW! We found this dehumidifier and air purifier combo on Amazon for about 70 bucks. It's small and says it works up to 230sf. Love it so far, and use the air purifier when no need to dehumidifier! amzn.to/2Uurfp8
Just wondering How do you get comfy in the RV at colder temps during the night ? do you fire up your heater/ furnace using your Generator power?
Next year!
Yes!! Come to Michigan next year, and we'll meet you there 😊
Yess! Sounds like a plan!

I feel like pants are so 2019. Few ever liked them and the only good thing about 2020 is it killed pants for good.
YESSSsssssss 😂😅
I will be at the point soon where I have at least two layers of pants and three-four layers on the upper body. I dread it every year. Save me a spot down there !
Two pairs of pants.....NOOoooooooooo! I feel for ya up there man. We dreaded MN winters as well. Plenty of room down here in Cali for ya.😎
I don't like wearing pants, but people around me insist that I wear them or they will report me.
@@IreneIronTravels Happy you found one that works. Love your videos! We have a running topic "which You Tube people would you most like to have supper with". You are my top choice. Ha. Safe travels.
Wow! 😍 Glad to make the top choice, that's sooo nice! We actually do something similar with who we watch!😂 We don't see a lot of Boldt's out and about so we'll keep an eye out for ya!
Make sure they let you into California or they let you leave. Personally, I wouldn't go there if someone paid me but I guess the weather makes it worth it for some folks.
I'm starting to question your Minnesota credentials if you think 30s is cold. Haha.
Yeah, lots of residents leaving California!🤣 Not sure how it happened, but we lost our thick winter skin! We used to be out as long as it was above 0! But, now we're chasing 70 and 🌞 Thanks for watching!
Good Morning ☕️
Another great video ~
The states agriculture department does Not
Care about produce bought in grocery stores.
Pests are what they’re concerned with. Farm field produce or plants (with soil) is what they’re after. Makes sense ya know? Eggs are truly the problem a tiny pest lays tiny eggs (yuck) so people can transfer a whole generation of pests unknowingly.
Wash them “organic” veggies & fruits...haha I had a lady bug in my romaine lettuce once!
_kinda freaky_

Edited to add:
I’m more the tuck my sweatpants into the top of my wool socks kinda person. 😵
Good Morning!
Totally makes sense with the pest that can hitch a ride with us! Chris always does a good job of washing(less while boondocking) and prepping our veg. Sometimes a whole batch of brussels sprouts would be ruined by little bugs! Protein???
Sweatpants in the socks....... That could be a popular new fashion trend! 😳

P.s. did y'all get a new refrigerator?
We did! It is a Dometic CRX110 from their Marine line. We love it. Our old fridge was just a little too small for two people full time. It is about 30% bigger than the old one and I had to cut the kitchen side panel to make it fit. Scary, but it worked out pretty well.😳
Thanks I'll check it out,
