Man i saw a piece of steel like that 4in thick and 2 1/2 foot long. It was on the shoulder of the highway though so i never got it. Someone else did though!
So far it looks like a pretty easy build there guys. I'm new to blacksmithing and I've been looking for ideas for a treadle hammer and I like where you are going with this. I look forward to seeing this one completed.

The hardest part is aligning the hammer. Will take a lot of video when we do that
