    the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

    Hey, nice job!
    Just a friendly tip from a carpenter in Denmark. We always use at least 2 layers of drywall on each side of a wall. This helps with sound isolation and also prevents cracking in the seams. Furthermore, we always stagger the joints, also to prevent cracking.

    • @ggfggf4151
      @ggfggf4151 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not only in Denmark. In Germany as well :D
      Just use the system of Knauf or any other company as they instruct it to be used. Never had any cracking issues. I guess we will see some cracking soon over the header of the door...

      If he had used 2x6 for the studs instead of 2x4 it would have been flush. It also would have allowed for more insulation in the walls to help with the minimal sound proofing. If I had to guess why he did this all you have to do is look at the price of wood. 2x4x16 is about $20 each. 2x6x16 is about $31 each right now.

    Great vid as usual! Hey, couple suggestions: Sheetrock top down, then the remainder gap is at the baseboard which is easier to cover than a gap at the top. Also, when making up a 2x header, spacers are great, but fill it with OSB or 1/2" plywood. Glue and screw it, then the plywood gives a lot more vertical load strength, not to mention that the 'sandwich' keeps the 2x12s from possibly splitting.

    This wall is so far from what could be considered "sound proof" even before you consider the massive sliding doors which will be a huuuuuge noise leak. A 1x1 gypsum wall with wood studs on 16" centers and mineral fiber only gets you STC 34. STC 50 is the minimum standard for noise control in buildings which blocks around 3X as much noise as an STC 34 wall and STC 60 is twice as good as that and still wouldn't be considered sound proof.
    I know it's to get more clicks, but man, every time I see these types of videos it drives me crazy.

      When he said 'sliding barn door' after explaining he wanted to soundproof it, I couldn't get over the conflicting ideas. Beyond the materials used (I don't know enough to get into that), you can't seal off a room with a door like that and expect the result he's after. And from a personal standpoint, sliders are great for pantries, cupboards, closets, etc. I don't really love them for rooms.

    I see 2 missed opportunities. Why didn't you insulate with Rockwood or polystyrene in the wall? I know its just a separating wall, but this will also help with sound insulation as well. And then why didn't you match the width of the existing wall? With the track and barn doors it will still poke out beyond the width of the original wall.

    10:50 "Terra firma" definition.... the more firma the less terror!! Or something like that. The more you tackle jobs at hight the easier you'll feel while you are up there, it's the whole "practice makes perfect" principle. I've worked with people with a whole range of fears and people can always get better with their fears as long as the correct systems are in place - that can be anything from safety equipment to emotional support..... normally a lot more emotional support. As long as the systems don't fail or leave the person feeling vulnerable people's fears can get easier to manage. In your case, I'd suggest a decorators platform instead of a step ladder as they are a lot more solid and have the benefit of offering the use of a safety harness for higher working areas. Love the make over, keep up the good work 👍👍👍

      If the rest of the walls are textured, which they are if you watched the kitchen videos, it would look incredibly stupid for this one to not be textured.

    Don’t you wish there were pink or blue primers that dried white but made it easier to see where you’ve already applied it? White on white is a bit harder to work out if you missed a spot or not 😅

    • @w2ttsy670
      @w2ttsy670 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I normally get the hardware store to tint the primer to an off white colour like antique white. It’ll be enough of a difference against a more pure white colour that you can see where you’ve been but also not so dark you have to triple coat.

    Please don't ever use Plus 3 for setting tape or mudset types of corner bead. It's too soft of a mud and has no polyvinyl. Meaning the adhesion / mechanical bond of the tape isn't there. Use topping or all-purpose.

    Arm chair renovator here, why not order16' drywall and hang the long side vertically, wouldn't you have about 2 seams above the door max? Maybe 3 max, and you wouldn't have all those seam lines to tape and mud.
