Honestly I feel like Fight Fire With Fire has gotta be one of the most underrated guitar solos of all time. Just saying.
I hope you mean the harmony, The actual solo has a lot of shred with no real feeling unlike the harmony.
Personally I much prefer Ride the Lightning, one of Kirk's most underrated solos IMO. Really builds.

My personal favorite solo is The Thing That Should Not Be, but that's because it fits the song so much better than anything, but my favorite melodic Metallica solo is One.

I like ( heavy metal ) guitar solos that do in fact have a part of the main melody within the solo, as mentioned here in the Mr. Crowley solo. Off the top of my head, a good example is the solo from ' We're Not Gonna Take It' by Twisted Sister, which is a variation of the main vocal melody.
The solo of Insurrection by Lamb of God has what you're talking about. Awesome solo. Check it out.

One thing you have to understand about Watch Mojo is that, although they make these lists, if you watch any with this person narrating them, it is apparent she knows nothing about hard rock/metal, so she has little understanding of the importance of a solo to these genres.

Mustaine is not the best lead but he is One of them and can play every lead in every Megadeth Song,and he also wrote almost all the guitars in Megadeth and early Metallica Some of thier Best...It takes all members to make Metallica after a Mustaine kick start ..Mustaine is Megadeth he is the only Part of Megadeth that has never changed all others have changed multiple times and Megadeth never lost a thing just kept on tearing it up....and still tearing it up Today...

That song got me into metal! I love it so much! And DF is one of my favourite bands so yeah. Please listen to the Edge Of The World. It's so fuckin' good, I think it's their best song. It's with the new singer, Marc Hudson and he is amazing :D

I don't like Avenged Sevenfold but judge this list purely based on the solos..Maiden had great songs but they were never about monster solos even though all songs had beautiful solos.It was about the entire package and strong structure in the case of Iron Maiden

I mean if you'rclassification of a good band is big bearded overweight, wasted band members, overly-distorted drop c riffs and screaming every second... you'r kinda simple minded.
I think avenged have taken metal to a new level. One that is not neanderthal pleasing, but a little more complex and thought out. I mean from their arrangements of their songs to their riffs and scales that they use, almost every thing they play is memorable and awesome to hear.

I have to agree with you on a lot of their songs, as the newer ones are just groove oriented. But City of Evil, either way you look at it is a VERY complex album. There are some songs in there that i literally could not even understand the timing and rhythm of it all until i heard it a second or third time lol.
Now that hardcore speed metal and stuff like those other bands play might have a few more notes in there. Sure a little less thought out, but .....more notes lol.

Should have included Testament, as there are a lot of great solos, Practice What you Preach, the new version of Disciples of the Watch etc. Also there are also great bands that wasn't include that has awesome solos,Black Dahlia Murder, Savatage, Wrathchild America, Cacophony and Symphony X! Though #1 is truly the best, even in Hardrock it can still beat out the other best solos.
Just put every solo from Megadeths ‘Rust in Peace’ album on here. Pure guitar gold. 🤘🏻

i really love domination but after listening floods i realized it was my new favorite solo from dime.
For me, it's a battle to death between "The Sleep" solo, and "Cemetery Gates" solo. Man, Dimebag decease seriously was a big hit to metal music

It's amazing how many people on here have said they dislike Avenged due to their appearance being "gay" its actually embarrassing that we listen to the same music, Metal and heavy music is supposed to be about the outcasts sticking together not slandering people with homophobia. I love the mentions of Accept Krokus and Lizzy Borden. Wolf Hoffman of Accept and Fernando Von Arb of Krokus are two excellent guitarists and Lizzy Borden were just underrated. Incidentally, the best solo for Accept on Metal Heart was the outro on Bound to Fail.

So happy to see Randy's incomparable "afterbirth" solo near the top. Its my all-time favorite song, solo and guitarist. Randy was simply the greatest lead guitarist in metal history. Tony built the House of Metal but Randy kicked the mothereffin door down. Randy's "afterbirth" solo and Mr. Crowley outro have been giving me goosebumps for almost FORTY YEARS! He was transcendental and broke the mold on the "second day the music died" March 19th, 1982. True fans will get the reference. Bernie, Brad, Jake, Zakk, Joe and Gus are all spectacular players but NO ONE can truly replace the irreplaceable Randy Rhoads.

As a huge Metallica fan: One ain’t their best solo. I’d replace it with Blackened, Dyers Eve, Unforgiven, Creeping Death, Ride The Lightning... the list goes on and on.

My favourite solo is Schenker at the end of Love to Love on the album Strangers In The Night. Not only tasty but soul deep.
The studio version is still better, but I don’t think they consider UFO metal. I think they put them in hard rock. Another solo that fits into that category is Return of the Prince, from the Necromancer, by Rush. Incidentally, Love to Love is Steve Harris, from Iron Maiden’s favorite song.
