Marvin Hell. No. Hands down one of the best songs ever made. It might not be as technical as other modern metal songs but at their time, that was one of the fastest, greatest, most impressive songs ever made. That was the case with Black Sabbath too. Puppets is and forever will be a musical masterpiece. The structure, the lyrics, everything is perfect.

Alpha Lupus is NU Metal a new name for lame music that people who like to jam should avoid? Get out of any metal chat log cause you don't like metal you're one of those people who like Limp Biscuit and think it's Nu Metal. LMFAO!!!!!
Du Hast is a pretty gnarly song, but I feel like it's more rock than metal though, Rammstein has some industrial metal and some hard rock, they're like at the border of the 2 if you ask me
Prediction: Bands like Disturbed, Korn and other members of the shortlived nu metal-club will be pretty much forgotten in about 10 years time, only barely kept alive by an old, nostalgic and dedicated fanbase. Sabbath, Metallica, Slayer and Iron Maiden will keep on gaining new fans.
Matt Thompson Totally agree on everything you said. Although I don't listen much to sabbath, I will always enjoy their songs. As for Iron Maiden, that's my top favourite band. And I'm sure I will still be listening to them if Steve is 80 years old.
I'm not much of a metal fan but the whole "nu-metal" thing seems pretty crap to me. Its loud testosterone driven music for 12 year olds trying to seem tough. Its like the message of the whole genre is "Bla bla bla DONT CALL ME A FAGGOT". Its basically loud aggressive music just for the sake of beng loud and aggressive. Theres no substance to it. Thats why theyll never reach the Metal God level of bands like Metallica, Pantera, Megadeth, Maiden etc
Matt Thompson Maybe, but atleast they earned their wings. They can put out whatever crap they want nowadays, but theyll still be one of the greatest bands ever

been looking at top 10 and other heavy metal list trying to look for manowar, hoping that people still reconise them as the kings of metal but sadly ive found pretty much nothing
After the child porno incident with Karl Logan and his stint in jail I doubt people are gonna be reaching to put manowar on lists. Their band name is stained thanks to that sick fuck.
I know people will hate me, but...looks like that when WatchMojo is going to make ANY thing that involves Metal in a list, the first thing they think is: "Oh, let's put Black Sabbath/Ozzy in the 1st place, then we think about the rest of the list". Just because they were the first ones to make metal, doesn't mean they always did the best things. I love Black Sabbath, but c'mon...
Austin Pamer Just because you don't like the band, doesn't mean they're crap, I like the older bands too, but that doesn't mean newer ones are crap.. it really bothers me when people think they're better because they listen to older bands.
Austin Pamer And you're that 1 dumbass of the video. Don't be so butthurt because your favorite band didn't make it or got misplaced. Disturbed was REALLY popular after their release of Down with the Sickness and Ten Thousand Fists, as both made chart toppers on release, and still do this day Down with the Sickness is one of the most popular heavy metal songs known to man and known as Disturbed's signature song
Oh, none of my favorite bands got displaced. I just don't like Disturbed. The man screams like a monkey in all of his songs. Who cares if they're popular. Lady Gaga, Lil Wayne, and Justin Beiber are popular, but they're shit too. The point of my comment wasn't that Disturbed was bad. It was that Sabbath deserves all of these numbers 1's.

I agree with this list and glad that it wasnt songs that were mass appeal but Disturbed should of been the honorable mention and raining blood should of been higher seeings its iconic, also tool should of at least been honorable mention if not on the list
No honorable mentions to Death Metal or Black Metal, but Nu Metal made the list and got honorable mention? Fucking shit list. Needs Cannibal Corpse, Death, Deicide, and Immortal.
First off how is Raining Blood only an honorable mention. (sic) by Slipknot didn’t make honorable mention, and personally, I would have put Aces High instead of number of the beast
(Sic) is an anthem but they chose the wrong a7x song too, hail to the king is their most well known, but critical acclaim or eternal rest are the best for may types of genres
If you want to make a proper list I suggest: Pantera- Fuckin Hostile - No explanation needed Black Sabbath - War Pigs - The godfathers of all and this gets everyone singing Motorhead - Ace of Spades - Do I need to add anything to this choice? Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark - Every metalhead needs to see this live... Just amazing when the crowd sings. Metallica - Master of Puppets - If you don't scream "Master, Master!!!" At a live show then you are there by accident. Megadeth - Holy Wars - Pure thrash and a killer solo Judas Priest - Painkiller - Rob takes it to a higher level on the vocals Slayer - Raining Blood - Those 3 first hits and you just know... Testament - The Preacher- Starts with unmistakable guitars and just goes thrash. Sepultura - Roots Bloody Roots - Another one to scream out the chorus. I could add some other bands or different songs but you get the point, unless you are clueless about metal.
Avenged Sevenfold, Deftones, Disturbed and Korn don't belong in this list or deserve to be mentioned. Surely Enter Sandman, Laid to Rest and Angel of Death should have been mentioned before _them_ ...
Röss Lämönt Ooooh 2edgy4me. Dude it's a heavy metal song from a largely heavy metal album, like it or not. Are you saying that 10 thousand fists is more metal than it?
In random order: Black Sabbath - "Paranoid" Iron Maiden - "Trooper" Dio - "Holy Diver" Blind Guardian - "Mirror, Mirror" Metallica - "Enter Sandman" Slayer - "Seasons In The Abyss" Accept - "Metal Heart" Iron Maiden - "Aces High" Dragonforce - "Through Fire And Flames" Manowar - "Warriors Of The World" And what i hope one day gets the anthem status: Sabaton - "Metal Machine" and "Metal Crue" as both are ultimate tribute to the genre.
I really don't like how you've left out songs, or at least picked slightly more obscure songs, simply because the clear choice was used on a different list.
Other than Dio's "We Rock" none of these strike me as anthems. When I think of anthems, I think of: Twisted Sister - "We're Not Gonna Take It" Warlock - "All We Are" Wasp - "I Wanna Be Somebody" or "Blind In Texas" Accept - "Balls To The Wall" Autograph - "Turn Up The Radio" Manowar - "Blow Your Speakers" Savatage - "Power Of The Night" Grim Reaper - "Lust For Freedom" Judas Priest - "You've Got Another Thing Coming" Motorhead - "Born To Raise Hell" Shy - "Break Down The Walls" Dokken - "Breakin The Chains"

@@quercingtime half of the ride the lightning album is better.
Marvin I agree on that. I’m talking about Master of Puppets as a song that as the album. Fade to Black, trapped under ice, Ride the Lightning, Fight fire with fire are better songs than many songs from MoP.
antonio david ever been to a Metallica concert? I’d be fuming if Seek wasn’t on there, but not upset of MOP wasn’t.
Best metal song ever is “hallowed be thy name” by Iron Maiden
Chantelle xoxoxo bmth comes nothing close to Maiden
Chantelle xoxoxo still Death is above all still
gabriel mendes it truly is
Personally I think Paschendale is really good
I thought that too till I heard Empire of the clouds By Iron Maiden. Like they made a song that could surpass Hallowed be thy name.
Raining Blood isn't here???!???
Yoshi Wall Not as an entry but an honorable mention
That's thrash metal.
Im glad that you included Iron Maiden in the list and that too on no. 2! Up the Irons!!!
Sandeep Khudny I think they're more hard rock than metal.
No, they are the pioneers of Metal. all the metal bands that exist today are inspired by Iron Maiden.
Sandeep Khudny I mean their metal was more like a hard rock. Did you get it?
Sandeep Khudny I think you understood. Led Zeppelin was one of the "creators" of heavy metal, but we don't call them a heavy metal band.
hmm, I have to agree. Their 'heavy metal' was kind of primitive but still they are an awesome band \m/
10- lemmy kilmister - ace of spades
9- dio - holy diver
8- ozzy Osborne - crazy train
7- slayer - raining blood
6- Pantera - walk
5- black sabbath - war pigs
4- iron maiden - hollowed be thy name
3- Metallica - master of puppits
2- megadeth - holy wars.. the punishment due
1- Judas Priest - painkiller
pretty good list. but for iron maiden i would go for run to the hills. one of the most iconic intros ever.
chillmaster66 thanks, run to the hills, the trooper, and hollowed be thy name.. All of them are amazing songs and it's hard to choose between them
I personnally pick fear of the dark for Iron Maiden even tho Number of the Beast ain't bad.
Top 10 heavy metal anthems, not songs. Holy wars is a good song but not a very good anthem.
It’s the funniest thing heading her calm voice talk about heavy metal
But it's sad when they don't know what they're talking about
Good to see A7X got an honourable mention
Agreed!
Gonna fricking lose my mind if i see another of these absolute **** comments saying "this band isnt real metal, nu metal is for posers, if it doesn't have a guitar solo its not metal, slipknot/a7x are for gays and are fake" what total nonsense, metal is metal, it comes in different variations like ALL things, get used to it, and if you can't then don't even bother listening to metal.
Alpha Lupus is NU Metal a new name for lame music that people who like to jam should avoid? You play 3 riffs in a song with no solo it's not metal, it's not NU Metal or whatever you call your lame music. Get out of any metal chat log cause you don't like metal you're one of those people who like Limp Biscuit and think it's Nu Metal. LMFAO!!!!!
Alpha Lupus I agree with you, It might be metal.. but it is shitty metal.
Alpha Lupus Nu Metal is trash though.....
Alpha Lupus
It's simpe: don't read the comments. People always find some reasons to bicker among themselves
+MrCopenhagen113 Slipknot and Deftones aren't Nu-Metal anymore. They evolved into something more.
Walk was number 8!?! And Slayer only got an honorable mention!?! Fuck no I don't agree with your list!!
Slayer sucks
Pablo Olbap Well, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it...... no matter how wrong you are.
Slayer is fucking life.
greg johns uh u should take over cuz ur probably better than these guys

Iron Maiden’s greatest anthem is “Wasted Years”. Everyone can sing along with this tune.
Yeah I love fear of the dark but wasted years is much better in my opinion
Idk
That's an amazing song but I think hallowed be thy name is a better song
It has long notes , powerful voice and an incredible solo
I think there are like top 5 Iron Maiden songs that compete for the number one spot. “Hallowed by Thy Name” is one of them.
As it is my favorit song when I bought the record in 86...but its not!
The Trooper! ...or Hallowed Be Thy Name
If sing-along quality is really taken into account, Creeping Death is way above Seek & Destroy.
Yeah easily because of everyone chanting "die" almost throughout the whole bridge
+Fak Jea "The memory remains" beats "Seek" too
+Kyle SanMiguel And the "metallica" chants in the beginning of the song.
+Fak Jea very true!!
Dunno if CD is an anthem though. "One" is.
Ramstein “Du Haste”.
Du Hast is a pretty gnarly song, but I feel like it's more rock than metal though, Rammstein has some industrial metal and some hard rock, they're like at the border of the 2 if you ask me
Nah it's not heavy metal but more like experimental metal
@@marwintalens7066 here in germany at least, we call rammstein Industrial rock. So no heavy metal. And i think it doesnt sound like heavy metal..

Good joke.
Ham Bone "Nu-what? You sure that's spelled right?" Overheard in 2025. We'll see who's laughing then!
Hallowed by the name> the number of the beast
Gaston Almada yeah but number of the beast is more of a metal anthem than Hallowed by the name.
hallowed be thy name
what about fear of the dark and phantom of opera
Aces high? Loneliness of long distance runner? Alexander the Great? Deja vu? Fear of dark? Hallowed? Phantom of opera?
totally agreed
I think Creeping Death is a better choice than Seek and Destroy, the DIE chant on live concerts just give you goosebumps
that die die die riff is also such a killer riff. definitely one of my favourite
Here is my personal top ten:
10 Disturbed-Down with the sickness
9 Avenged sevenfold-Hail to the king
8 Helloween- Keeper of the seven keys

Ozzy got 2 :p
Of course Pantera would be on here. Although they deserved a higher spot

how is acdc heavy metal?
In the 1970s, AC/DC must’ve been considered heavy metal. 🤘🏻

U know your stuff manowar warriors of the world
been looking at top 10 and other heavy metal list trying to look for manowar, hoping that people still reconise them as the kings of metal but sadly ive found pretty much nothing
But they did do the best things... Especially better than this crap like Disturbed and Korn
Austin Pamer
noone said Korn and Disturbed were good, right?

If you want to make a proper list I suggest:
Pantera- Fuckin Hostile - No explanation needed
Black Sabbath - War Pigs - The godfathers of all and this gets everyone singing
Motorhead - Ace of Spades - Do I need to add anything to this choice?
Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark - Every metalhead needs to see this live... Just amazing when the crowd sings.
Metallica - Master of Puppets - If you don't scream "Master, Master!!!" At a live show then you are there by accident.
Megadeth - Holy Wars - Pure thrash and a killer solo
Judas Priest - Painkiller - Rob takes it to a higher level on the vocals
Slayer - Raining Blood - Those 3 first hits and you just know...
Testament - The Preacher- Starts with unmistakable guitars and just goes thrash.
Sepultura - Roots Bloody Roots - Another one to scream out the chorus.
I could add some other bands or different songs but you get the point, unless you are clueless about metal.
