I just LOOOOOOVE this teacher!!! He's got it all: he's musical, kind to the pianist and the dancers, his exercises are clear, logical and musical. Oh, and did I mention that he's also really handsome?! :-D Well, he's just GREAT. Congratulations to him, Tim and the dancers! Looking forward to watching you on the 4th of October!
My teacher does the same thing! And when we make mistakes she always exclaims “santa banana!” And pretends she has a bug spray and proceeds on “spraying” us 😂😂😂
I’m not a dancer in ANYway....I’m 61 and into academic learning , mind oriented; I have NO physical or or sports ability...and I’m watching this because these wonderful dancers might as well be a different species to me. I love to see them use their bodies in ways I can only imagine and dream of. But what also strikes me...apart from the beauty of movement and expression; the muscular strength and flexibility is their phenomenal memory skills. I’m stunned watching these class vids at how the teachers rattle off a lengthy series of instructions/movements and the dancers can obviously internalise, visualise and perform them whilst making it look effortless. These are truly gifted remarkable people and we don’t value them anywhere near enough. Yet we pay millions to people for TV/radio presenting, playing sport, especially football, being ‘celebrities‘./reality tv wannabes ....I think our society has its values screwed.
You are so right ... here in the US its true, but everywhere else in the world the arts come before sports and celebrity wanna be's! ( mind you this generation of selfie takers have taken over everywhere, I'm a classically trained pianist aged 47, i cant imagine too many millenials having the discipline to practise the hours it takes.)
Warrendoe The injustice also shows when it comes to income. They work so very hard and don’t earn anything in comparison to sports stars or even models! Sometimes you hear that Russian dancers couldn’t afford tickets to the performances in which they dance a leading role! ( I am not a ballerina, just did ballet as a little girl and still enjoy watching it)
'Don't worry if you've never done ballet before' LOL these are quite advanced exercises, and I would think anyone who hasn't done ballet has no idea what all the French terms mean! If you've never done ballet and you're going to have a go, please don't try to turn out like the professional dancers, do get really warmed up and don't strain to get any of the movements!
Yeah, and also the exercises don't do anything for you if you don't know the correct posture for them. For every little movement there is a lot to think about and he didn't explain anything.
I do remember well the Royal Matinées on Saturdays, with Dame Margot Fonteyn, Dame Ninette de Valois, Sir Frederick Ashton. Great! Thanks, Royal Ballet.
To dance like this does not come easy. There is history in each dancer Discipline Tears Sacrifice Persistence Passion And above all LOVE there is no age to dance As long as you can move Beginning is all it takes to get you going, give it to yourself Give it to the world If the music siubd8 Just move! Move! Move! From the bottom of your 💓!💃💃💃💃🕺🕺🕺
lol i am 61 and just took your advise. You are so correct about so much. Ballet is so freakin challenging, so energizing, so fun, etc. It also makes my whole body "feel" alive and awesome, even if right now my legs STILL feel like falling off from the grand plies i did at last Wednesday's class!
LOL at how he was like 'don't worry if you've never done ballet before'. As someone who has never done ballet before, I was plenty worried when he started singing out the sequence and they hadn't even started yet!
Caroline Rand x.x at the beginner class I take, the teachers explain everything in detail, so even during the explanation I have to.remember the previous step after 2 minutos explaining why doing it.a different way can hurt the body x.x not good.if.you have adult ADD
They've been doing them since they were youngsters, and as they advanced in years, they took more and more classes so that by the time they are young adults, they have done the same exercises, steps, and routines many times each day. They have muscle memory going for them, and although the French seems daunting, they learn the names for each step and movement through repetition (it takes less time than you think when you do the same steps and movements every day in class). By the time these two are where they are, there aren't that many surprises during a class. They just keep working on physical strength, musicality, attention to detail, focus, etc. to perfect their performances.
Can someone please tell me where these freestanding, portable and height adjustable barres are from? I like the idea of having two barres, so everyone has the freedom to move without checking for other peoples hands etc. 😅
The teacher said at the beginning that this is just a preview of the class that we'll see on the 4th of October. Therefor, it doesn't have to be starting with 2 hands on the bar...
Hi Aves, We are really pleased to be able to show the entire Royal Ballet Class this year. It will be live on our Facebook page at 11am BST and then available afterwards on our TH-cam channel.
Did y'all get all that at 9:40? It's a bunch of grand battement (big kicks) in all directions, first with plie (bent knee) then with no plie, sometimes passing pointed toe through at the knee, then big streeeetch circle with port de bras (arm swing .) Ohohkaaay. Thank you Tim. Click here if you hung on to the back of your chair and did the whole thing.
Hi, can you open your closed captions for editing? They are alright for the first few minutes then the ballet terms get translated wrong by auto-generated captions.
I'm 14 and have always done ballet but never actually done a lot of pointe since I mostly do hip hop and jazz etc, am I too old to start? I am ballet trained I just need to become more flexible and work on my skills for pointe and pirouettes and turns etc
Jenna Moss to be honest, you shouldn't be dancing on point much before 12 anyway, as it can cause pretty serious damage to developing feet. If you train properly, there is no reason why you can't give pointe a go 😊💜
After puberty is the best time as the bones are still developing before that and you will damage them if you start before that. In big cities there are foot doctors that can review your feet if you want to be sure. Look for Drs. that work with ballet dancers. It's definitely not to late! I started ballet in college and became a professional by 23. Then a professor of dance later on! Keep on dancing!
This is a technique variation, I can't remember which techniques uses coup de pied (or even if it's just a position similar to that), but I have done both in open classes.
UN-pro tip! Put it on .75 speed! As an intermediate community adult dancer, I could totally do these once I slowed it down a bit. The speed + balance + combo memorization just isn't quiiiiiiite there for me to do with good technique the first couple of times through.
Thanks for your comment. The pianist Tim Qualtrough makes lots of changes to the pieces he uses (and some of these are his own improvisations) so that's probably why the apps couldn't help. To provide a bit more detail: 2:12 This is adapted from a piece Tim heard in Andorra several years ago 4:21 This is an improvisation by Tim 6:14 This is adapted from the first movement of Dvorak's 'New World' symphony 8:22 This is adapted from Tchaikovsky's piano piece 'Sweet Dreams' 10:29 This is adapted from an aria by Handel
Thank you very much. He is an amazing pianist, I've heard him several times watching the ballet videos on the ROH channel. I absolutely loved the music here. Makes me kind of sad I can't have a music file lol. He should post some of his variations.
For the next 30 days you can watch the full four hours of The Royal Ballet's World Ballet Day live stream here th-cam.com/video/vUsckfuzF84/w-d-xo.html&lc
I can't tell for sure this time as we never got a look in the right place, but most time I watch class at the RB the pianist is improvising or doing things from memory.
I just LOOOOOOVE this teacher!!!
He's got it all: he's musical, kind to the pianist and the dancers, his exercises are clear, logical and musical. Oh, and did I mention that he's also really handsome?! :-D
Well, he's just GREAT. Congratulations to him, Tim and the dancers!

Love it how Brian sings out the combinations with the music rather than just calling it out

I don't know anything about ballet but listening to the instructions is so relaxing
It's very relaxing...

Warrendoe it takes mental stability to be able to do this! I’ve been dancing for 13 years!! It’s painful but it’s addicting and you can’t stop
Warrendoe

@Joni Crouch ah that makes me so sad. Must be lonely for you but keep up the good work. We need you!
its so fascinating how they can pick up that fast, and her technique is incredible😊
they are doing it everyday. it is repetition
Are easy exercises
I'm an elderly lady but love, love, love the ballet. How I wish I was young again!
'Don't worry if you've never done ballet before' LOL these are quite advanced exercises, and I would think anyone who hasn't done ballet has no idea what all the French terms mean! Ikr Lol.
Dancing Moth Agreed one could hurt oneself very badly
Dancing Moth but this is warm lmao
I think they just wanna people to give it a go....it's not a serious lesson anyway....geez
Being in only a simple beginner class, watching this is fascinating to me
Honestly I love this teacher so much he's so logical, understanding and HANDSOMEEE
Apart from all the hard work that's gone into their techniques, oh to be so genetically gifted. Marvellous teaching and beautiful to watch.
I love it when I go to class after WBD and the teacher has borrowed from the combinations shown during the telecast. So fun!
I do remember well the Royal Matinées on Saturdays, with Dame Margot Fonteyn, Dame Ninette de Valois, Sir Frederick Ashton. Great! Thanks, Royal Ballet.
I'm so excited for World ballet day!

Thank you, Tim
Yes, my uncle!
Can't believe world ballet day is on my birthday💕
So, Happy Birthday!!! dancing!!!
Same!!! Best birthday present ever!!
Cogratulations!!
LOL at how he was like 'don't worry if you've never done ballet before'.
As someone who has never done ballet before, I was plenty worried when he started singing out the sequence and they hadn't even started yet!
Wow...!!! What a great and beautiful, beautiful class. Many thanks for sharing..., it's wonderful !
Thanks million for the lovely exercise . I am doing it at 4:47 am on the morning
Those grand battements were so high!
it's the best barre work I ever saw! great!!! thank you!!!
I love these class videos! It's so fun to dance along
These are intermediate steps so I don’t think that someone who hasn’t done ballet before can do them!
I love her leotard xx
Does anyone know where it's from?
It's a class-in!
As Daisy says, Meaghan Grace Hinkis's leotard is from Class In.
Such a wonderful vidio. I'd try it every day to emprove my thecnique. A beginner from
Spain. I love Ballet!
Yaaay! I love World Ballet Day! Best idea ever!!
I just really want the pianist on demand... from a teachers perspective that would make class that much easier.
beautiful teacher! lovely!
I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE THIS TEACHER SO MUUUUCH !!!!! GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS ! xoxo from Brazil ! :)
Trying to practice these combinations everyday!!
i really wish they'd put carbon life on dvd. i am aching to see that work!
I love BALLET
James Hay 😍😍😍
I love this idea of giving a preview~ tomorrow San Francisco Ballet is doing the same thing!
the legs on that guy -,- sheesh.
James is lovely!
Very good pianist (he was not even introduced ...)
Many thanks for your comment and for pointing out this omission. The pianist is Tim Qualtrough.
O vc 9ne8v9ne
I'm so excited!!
How on earth do they remember all the moves - I might manage the first 3 !!!
Caroline Rand they have to do these exercises often so it'll all be in their heads already.
Caroline Rand x.x at the beginner class I take, the teachers explain everything in detail, so even during the explanation I have to.remember the previous step after 2 minutos explaining why doing it.a different way can hurt the body x.x not good.if.you have adult ADD

I wish I could enter at the Royal Balket one day.
This is my dream but for the moment I can't even enter into a conservatory 🙁
Can someone please tell me where these freestanding, portable and height adjustable barres are from? I like the idea of having two barres, so everyone has the freedom to move without checking for other peoples hands etc. 😅
I love ballet3

TEACHER,,, IAM FROM PERU,,, PLEASE DE DONDE ES LA CLASS DE EEUU O ALEMANI,A AUSTRIA,, DONDE ENSEÑA
They're truncating company class again?! Why?! That's by far the most interesting part.
I agree! Company class two years ago was beyond amazing!
Totally agree. We want full class with Evreinoff and no commentary!
The teacher said at the beginning that this is just a preview of the class that we'll see on the 4th of October. Therefor, it doesn't have to be starting with 2 hands on the bar...
Hi Aves,
We are really pleased to be able to show the entire Royal Ballet Class this year. It will be live on our Facebook page at 11am BST and then available afterwards on our TH-cam channel.
Very good! Thank you for your reply. I misunderstood Brian Moloney.
I loved ❤️❤️
Will we be able to watch the videos after the live streaming is over??I will have a day full of classes :(
I suppose yes since ones from previous years are available.
Yes. Usually they put on youtube the videos. You can have 2014 and 2015 here.
Hi Emily, yes, you'll be able to watch on TH-cam for 30 days after broadcast.
I can't wait to watch you all live!! Do you ever audition outside of your school?
Several of The Royal Ballet's dancers have joined from outside The Royal Ballet School.
I love It!
love it!
What brand of point shoes are those? They are so beautiful , if someone knows, please share ❤️❤️
Regina Islas I think they are freed of London but I am not entirely sure :)
Did y'all get all that at 9:40? Tá melhorando
She has a different body type than I would have expected! I certainly don’t mind it! It’s a nice change!
amei esse vídeo de balé
i love her muscular body:) not twiggly like too many dancers today
Yeah right? She is super toned but actually looks like a woman. It brings the focus back on the dancing and the artistry, where it should be.
Sorry, but I hold a more traditionalist view, and find her stocky body to be a distraction.
Yes. She looks strong and healthy. Instead of looking like they’ll fall out at any moment!
I think she is too chunky to be a ballet dancer
I'm 14 and have always done ballet but never actually done a lot of pointe since I mostly do hip hop and jazz etc, am I too old to start? I am ballet trained I just need to become more flexible and work on my skills for pointe and pirouettes and turns etc

Elise Jeffery Yes! I never understand why a lot of ballet teachers start their students at 9.

I noticed you use a flexed foot for frappes. (before the strike).

I was wondering what the piano is playing at 6:15. I thought it was a Grieg piece, but now I can’t place it. Anybody know? Thanks
It's a faster-paced excerpt of Adagio from the first world symphony by Dvorak
is no one going to talk about the male's technique? because it's really almost as good as the female's
Can anyone please identify the music that is played in here? I've tried all sorts of apps and programs but it just wont identify the songs right.
Thanks for your comment. The pianist Tim Qualtrough makes lots of changes to the pieces he uses (and some of these are his own improvisations) so that's probably why the apps couldn't help. To provide a bit more detail:
2:12 This is adapted from a piece Tim heard in Andorra several years ago
4:21 This is an improvisation by Tim
6:14 This is adapted from the first movement of Dvorak's 'New World' symphony
8:22 This is adapted from Tchaikovsky's piano piece 'Sweet Dreams'
10:29 This is adapted from an aria by Handel
Thank you very much. He is an amazing pianist, I've heard him several times watching the ballet videos on the ROH channel. I absolutely loved the music here. Makes me kind of sad I can't have a music file lol. He should post some of his variations.
Does anyone know the song the accompanist is playing?
Dont worry if you have never done ballet before?
Hold on to the back of a chair?
And attemp to do that?!!?
Really?!
Will you upload class ?? the different time made me miss it!
For the next 30 days you can watch the full four hours of The Royal Ballet's World Ballet Day live stream here th-cam.com/video/vUsckfuzF84/w-d-xo.html&lc

I am not on Facebook - so can't watch this on the day?!
it will also be on TH-cam, I believe
Hi Kate, you can watch this on our website, www.roh.org.uk, and on TH-cam for 30 days after broadcast.
Thank you so much! Looking forward to it!
What Brand is her point shoe? I need it!!!
Where can we purchase the live piano music you use in the class? : )
I can't tell for sure this time as we never got a look in the right place, but most time I watch class at the RB the pianist is improvising or doing things from memory.
