      I'm 65 and used to take ballet lessons when I was younger, and also love to follow these lessons. Good to know that I'm not the only one, was beginning to think that I was a bit weird.

    I am a ballet class pianist in Washington DC at the Kennedy Center. These pianists for the royal ballet company classes are fantastic! If you are a pianist and want to learn to play ballet class, I highly recommend these TH-cam videos.

      I'm a ballet pianist as well. The thing that amazes me about this guy is how quick he picks up the tempo. One thing about this class that's different than the classes I play for is the pace. They move from one combination to the next with minimal time in between. I always get nervous with teachers who count in "fast-forward" motion, because I'm not sure what tempo they really want. These two must work together a lot to understand each other that well.

    • @lindakipps7551
      @lindakipps7551 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@peterjoseph8958 Company class and classes in your local studio are often quite different. Company class is often fast paced like this class. You have to think really fast.

    • @peterjoseph8958
      @peterjoseph8958 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@lindakipps7551 That's true, but this is fast even by company class standards I've seen. I've played for company classes for years at Silicon Valley Ballet and some ABT company classes, and usually there's about 30 seconds to a minute in between combinations, depending on the teacher.

    • @elizabethspallanzani1905
      @elizabethspallanzani1905 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@peterjoseph8958 have only just seen your post a year on from the 2019 Day, but wanted to say that all you ballet pianists are in a class of your own, and should get more recognition! Your comment reminded me that many years ago Kathleen Crofton was teaching in London, and she 'danced' the steps with her hands whilst whistling the rhythm - a real challenge for both dancers and pianists until you were used to her classes!

    i think a big improvement is having just the two experinced dancers doing the links and voice overs there is certainly less chat but the infomation is still put across , you dont need a third person to ask a question , so conversation is cut by a third. I know a lot of people would prefer no voices at all but this is an improvement over previous years

    Thank you, so beautifully done, by dancers, teacher, and awesome pianist. I am smiling because of personal memories of a mom, and many years later her daughter.

    been watching the streams from the past couple of years and it's really cool to see what different teachers focus on. i was really excited to learn that they're still doing world ballet day this year, though i hope everyone is keeping safe. it hasn't been easy for a lot of people and i wish i could help ROH at least :( the dancers all seem like such lovely people and of course their hard work is really really admirable. they're artists and athletes and something else all at the same time. thank you for being such inspirations and please take care always...

    Lol! The theme from Oulander is the warmup. Nice barre, working and stretching the feet and body. I am loving the music for this class! People don't always realize how important good music and playing is important to the tone and energy of the class everyday. As always kudo's the Royal Ballet accompanists! i love World Ballet day because we get to see the Royal Ballet strut their stuff. Always good. Very fun class today.

      I've done ballet exercises in London classes to anything and everything, including Grace Jones, Theodorakis' Zorba dance. I remember some fabulous pianists who really woke up my body and mind. So inspiring.

      He's really good! I'm a ballet pianist myself and it's really hard to get through and entire class catching the end of every single combination and getting every tempo exactly right. This guy is telepathic!
