    I started riding stand up jet skis in 1990 and owned a 1990 Kawasaki JS550. I rode it in the surf and out on the Colorado River. Owned the ski a few years and then sold it. Fast forward to the summer of 2019. My buddy Matt and I were determined to get back on stand up's. Matt bought 5 stand up Kawasaki's and I ended up buying 4 stand up's that summer. A 1994 750SX, a 1999 750SXI PRO, a 2007 SXR800 and a 1999 Superjet. All of our skis were stock with original clean graphics. It was quite a sight to see all 9 skis in my garage from time to time. I rode the Kawasaki's the most and didn't like the feel and wide turning radius of the Superjet. The kawi's turned tight and my favorite 2 skis were by far the SXI PRO and the SXR800. It's a tough call but the SXR800 was my all time favorite 2-stroke jet ski. Both skis were race inspired right out of the crate. Both skis had dual carbs and incredible power and handling. The SXR had a wider tray too. As far as how cool certain years looked, I would check out the 1999 and 2001 SXI PRO's and 2007 and 2011 SXR800's. In the year of 2011, Kawasaki released their final two-stroke and last year of the JS800 SX-R. They had to discontinue this ski due to new US EPA restriction that was put in place. Because they had to end their very long line of amazing jet skis Kawasaki decided to note their last year of production with a special edition “Commemorating 37 Years of Jet Ski.” Finished in Jet White and Ebony with a bright red handle pole and graphics, 2011 800 SX-R also featured a commemorative “37 Years” logo on the handle pole. This would be a cool ski to own. Furthermore, if you're considering Yamaha, check out the 1996 round nose, it has killer graphics and the first year of the 701cc straight twin two-stroke engine with twin Mikuni carburetors. Btw, I sold all the 2-stroke stand up's and we now have a 2023 Superjet and a 2024 Superjet. Not classics but that's okay, we can ride these 4-strokes anywhere. Stand up's are addicting and I always look forward to riding them!

      Wonderful background info, review & write up. Thank you for sharing. I never got to own A jet ski, but always dreamed of a PJS VHP 550.

      Hey man, that’s an awesome trip down memory lane! Starting with the 1990 Kawasaki JS550 and then diving back into stand-ups in 2019 with such a collection must’ve been a blast. It’s really cool to hear about all those models you had, especially with all of them being stock with their original clean graphics. I bet it was a sight to see all 9 skis in your garage-what a setup!
      The 1994 750SX and the 1999 750SXI PRO sound like real gems, and it’s great to hear how much you enjoyed the tight handling of the Kawasakis. I’m still learning about the stand-up world, and hearing that the SXR800 was your all-time favourite 2-stroke is super interesting....
      The 1996 round nose Yamaha with the 701cc engine sounds like a must-see, I’ll definitely keep an eye out for those models as I dive deeper into the stand-up world.
      Even though you’ve moved on to the 2023 and 2024 Superjets, it’s awesome to hear that you’re still addicted to stand-ups and enjoying them wherever you can ride. Thanks for sharing all this great info and for watching and supporting the channel, mate! 😎

    Point and aim. Low throttle before the turn, aim and power up. More speed you become more rigid. Fast is your friend. And don’t forget forward weight shift. Don’t sub the nose in a turn

    I would say a square nose would be awesome but a round nose is really the way to go. The aftermarket is insane. It is an awesome design. There is a reason people bought them for 25 years. Also, I know you really are big on stock, but most 2 strokes have little to no aftermarket these days. Get a round nose, buy a b-pipe. You will gain a lot of power and they make the most incredible sounds. Then, after that, you can work on steering/handling. Also, you can buy one that is a bit rough, then fix it up and make it look brand new. Vintage Jetskihas graphic kits for every year they were made.

      @classicjetskis  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dude, I see your point about the round nose being the way to go! I just love the look of the earlier square nose, that to me is Classic Jetskis(Well classic WaveRunner lol) The aftermarket support really is impressive, but as you say I'm mainly an OEM guy.
      It’s awesome that the design has stood the test of time for 25 years! I totally get that most 2-strokes don’t have as much aftermarket these days, but that wouldn't be deal breaker for me, as I would be keeping to stock and finding a clean one...
      If I really get the bug I will get a round nose also, as sounds like a solid choice, especially with a b-pipe for that extra power and those killer sounds!
      I haven’t tried any of these models myself yet; it’s all based on my research... Thanks for sharing your thoughts, mate! Can’t wait to dive into the world of these classic standups! 🌊🚤🔥

    For your channel in what your doing def the js550 and then the ultimate stand up round nose Superjet. You only have to look at how long this was produced for,what its won and how it stayed unchanged for so many years. Year 02 👍🏻👍🏻
    As for the blaster 1. Best ski everrrrrrrrrr made. You wait !!!

    Started with a Kawi 650SX in 1992 then a limited 750SX in 1994. Loved it - used to jetski in the surf, but the reliability was a constant source of problems for me. Even before I graduated to surf - electricals were the main issue for me.
    A mate got a square nose SJ around 94 and I tried that. It took me a while to get used to the way it cornered as I was used to the Kawi 750SX,, but it was far superior to the Kawis at the time in handling and stock bottom end. This was evidenced by the IJSBA racers switching over to the SJ around the mid 90s. Fast forward about 30 years and same mate bought a new 4 stroke Superjet thinking that we'd get used to it easily after not riding a stand up for 30 years. NOPE! It's taking time to get used to it again. What I can appreciate about the new SJ is 1) Better ergonomics, 2) Better low-end grunt than stock and 3) Improved reliability.
    My tip is, pick either Kawi or Yamaha (I'd pick Yamaha these days) and stick with it (unless you have plenty of spare time to get used to the nuances of either platform - I don't have the time any more). I struggled to get used to the Yamaha's turning as I was used to doing full leg drags and butt drags on the Kawi - that's not really necessary on the SJ.. I've had 2 rides on the new SJ and I love it, but it's taking me time to get used to the way it turns. It has amazing low-end for a stock ski, that's for sure. I'm trying it out again this weekend. Must be age catching up with me, as hard as it is to admit that. You need good flexibility and dexterity to get the most out of a stand up. Upper body strength helps too, but I think it's more dexterity.
    Also - I've noticed that it's easier for shorter people to get up to speed quickly on a stand-up, especially with handling. I'm not short, so I have to compensate by getting my centre of gravity low when cornering. It helps a lot.
    If it were me, I'd go 1) New Superjet, 2) Round nose twin carb Superjet. For Kawi, go the SXR800 2 stroke. The new Kawi 4 stroke standup just looks too big and it weighs too much for my liking, although I understand that a lot of people like it for racing.

    I prefer the Superjets over the Kawasakis as I want more of a rec/freestyle ride. The Kawis are great for choppy water. I would suggest a 2013+ Superjet because of the incorporated tubbies Yamaha put into the hulls. 2016+ if you want to avoid the dreaded hood peel of previous years. You won’t find a more reliable engine than the 701 Yamaha put in the Superjets. 🤙

    • @Lucas-qb3bs
      @Lucas-qb3bs หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In 2008 they actually added the tabbies and changed the intake tract to be less steep. But I think he would be interested in a 97 or older just because of the graphics being more 90’s themed

      @classicjetskis  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @itzsabian5064 Hey buddy! Dude, I totally get your preference for the Superjets! From all the research I’ve done, they seem perfect for that rec/freestyle vibe. I’ve heard the Kawasakis handle choppy water really well, but I’m all about that Superjet 90s look!
      Great call on the 2013+ models with the tubbies - I’ve read they make a big difference in handling. And avoiding that hood peel on the 2016+ is definitely something I’d keep in mind. The 701 engine’s reliability seems like everyone says this! Can’t wait to hopefully try one out myself. Thanks for watching 🤙🚤🌊

    The square nose is going to have a slightly lower cg compared with the 96 and newer Super jets. Same bottom from 90-07. 08 till the end of production had the newer bottom design with different handling. I have a 95 square since new and still ride it and will never sell it. Watch for cracks in the poles and wet foam on older squares. Three engines over time 650 then single carb 701 then finally twin carb 701. I have been on friends 650 and 750 Kawasaki and they slide and cavitate more in the chop, and they agree. They both are fun and with handling mods like grates and riding plates you can customize them abit. Watch the Watcon channel he has some pointers. Welcome to standups…

    • @classicjetskis
      @classicjetskis  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Dude, thanks for breaking that down! I didn’t know the square nose had a lower center of gravity compared to the newer Superjets-super interesting! Your '95 square still going strong is awesome; it must be a blast to ride! I’ll definitely keep an eye out for cracks and wet foam on older models when I’m looking.
      I’ve been doing a ton of research, and it’s great to hear your insights on the differences between the Kawasaki models and how they handle in chop. I’ll check out the Watcon channel for those tips too! Thanks for the warm welcome to the standup world, mate! Can’t wait to join in on the fun! 🌊🚤🙌 Thanks for watching

    Get a Kawasaki 550sx (91-95). Good reliable start. Square noses are great too but you gotta get one with a 701

    I think you should start with a Kawasaki 550, then get a square nose.
    Then you need to get a Sea Doo 3D.

    I've only ridden 2 jet skis. First time was a 90s Kawasaki stand up out on a very flat lake and more recently a ski doo spark in 4' swells on lake superior. Both were fun but if i were to buy one it would be an 90s 2 stroke stand up.

    I race superjets and you better start learning how to switch stance turning left and right it will help you get used of hanging the body outside the ski. The faster you go the easier it is…. If you feel like you are falling over open that throttle up. If you let off and lean forward lean to either side you are trying t turn. lean the body outside of the tray and get low and hammer the throttle and then shift all the weight to the back to keep the pump in the water. front and rear sponsons and ridding plate with OVP steering you will be able to turn on a dime. like I said before if you go faster it’s easier… the newer superjet 4strokes are now more for freestyle. early 4strokes are better imo for buoy racing

    There is no riding it wrong. You'll learn and perfect your form over time; I stand mostly "goofy" style or in 1977 Kawasaki commercial style (feet right next to each other in the tray). Moving the feet is something I haven't gotten down yet and i have quite a bit of time now. I have rode both of the current generations [and own the SXR] and I think both are fantastic, the superjet is BY far the ski that pays homage to the spirit of the classic standups. I was able to get to 52ish compared to the SXR's 62ish so its no slouch either. I would probably get the SJ for sharing with friends on the lake. An X2 would be a cool project, especially if you decided to go some sort of swap (maybe an 800?). I still maintain that the 750SXI Pro is the best all round 2 stroke standup; before they became buoy hunting machines in the SXR and just a bit more well rounded than the 650, which I'm not terribly fond of. An SXR 800 to 1100 swap would be killer on this channel. I think with your production values it could be a hit.

    Everyone is going to be telling you something a little different. When you get your first one you just get the one that's for sale for the right price in your area that you think might work out. When you don't know what your doing, you just have to go for it. The worst mistake you could make is a Seadoo 3d.
