- In this video, I'm demonstrating the installation of the Sinister coolant filter install kit designed for the 2009-2012.5 4th generation 6.7 Cummins engine. It's important to note that I'm not sponsored by Thoroughbred Diesel or Sinister Diesel.
(Update: 2023-2024) I've decided to switch to the newer 2013+ setup, as it's positioned higher on the engine next to the head, rather than being located at the bottom of the truck where it's exposed to the elements and prone to rusting. If you have a 2012 or older model, you can still make the 2013+ model work with some modifications. You'll need to either remove the bracket on the coolant thermostat elbow to accommodate the filter or, like I did, visit rockauto.com and procure the 2013+ coolant thermostat water neck to replace the existing one.

thanks i have since removed this setup and gone with the 2013+ coolant bypass setup, its different and the reason why is that the 2012 location is on the bottom of the truck were as the 2013+ is located up next to the head. much easier to get to and its not going to rust away.
I wonder if this installation is much different on a 3rd gen 2008 6.7?
I don't believe so as it shares the same points of contact and it's the same block so I would imagine it would bolt right up without much fuss

How about a video on dealing with the def tank after a delete? Draining and bbn or removal.
Wish I could give you that video, my 2012 never came with a def tank. And mine was made after 2012.5 so I thought that was kinda weird. But for the tank and removal is from what I've seen pretty straight forward, even easier if you take the bed off the truck. But good luck with the tank.
Seems we’ve done a few of the same mods. I also did the sinister delete and the hose blew.. I was wondering if I could run this in its place. I know I’ll have to get a reducer for the smaller line and it’ll probably increase coolant pressure being a smaller line. Any thoughts on this? I’ve read that using that port only filters about 10% of the coolant. Having difficulty finding a replacement hose as sinister doesn’t make deletes any longer and figured it may work. Thanks.

Though Im not like most you-tubers, i made this using only a base video editing, but I wanted to start doing these types of videos because when I had a curiosity to watch videos like this none where to be found. But to answer your question my lights are being held on by m3 tape that comes with the lights that I got from superbrightleds.com www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/top-emitting/outdoor-led-light-strips-weatherproof-led-tape-light-with-18-smds-per-ft-3-chip-smd-led-5050/1622/ this is exactly what I ordered, I had them made up into the 3 foot sections that you can choose at the bottom. instead of me having to solder the cables on I just had them do it so that way it was a simple matter of just attaching wires.
What is the name of the box where you mounted this????
Nicholas Snow if you are referring to the box @1:25 all I know is that it called an electronic relay unit.
Hope you didn't use that garbage Dex-Cool GM anti freeze in that Cummins motor or you will be kissing it good-bye!
Robert Simpson that would be a hard no on that one. I saw what it did already to a few engines. Flushed my system and put the good old stuff into it. Thanks for the heads up though

Great honestly I changed the filter after the first month and I noticed alot of dirt and crud that was still in the system but the clarity of the coolant has improved greatly.

ericeuton11 not at all if you only realized how much crap is in the coolant system from sand to excess casting bbs there is a lot that the filter sketches including the junk from the water we use as well

New cummins dont us water it a organic type of antifreeze should not be mixed with water or anything else other than itself
CowKingxxx no idea as to what your saying or talking about. The fluid that is in my 2012 Cummins is antifreeze that is still mixed with (distilled) water.

great idea but fleetguard makes a better filter that is precharged with DCA that is a stabilizer so to speak for the cooling system. Prevents corrosion and balances the PH, I know its a lot to take in.
