This was a country song telling the story of “the crossroads” and those being prevalent in southern mythology. He wrote it about Robert Johnson the blues guitar pioneer that supposedly sold his soul to the devil to learn to play the guitar. One of the first Rolling Stones big hits was a cover of a Robert Johnson song. Colter Wall’s song Kate McCannon is a good one to react to. I like a lot of his newer stuff though. He has grown into his voice and become smoother like a fine whiskey.
Thank you. When I first really listened to the song, that is what I thought about and believed the song was about. Googling it showed minimum results but I still held to the belief.
Devil Wears a Suit and Tie is such a great one to start with when you first find Colter, because there's all this great guitar/kick drum lead up and you get like "yeah this is cool" and then there's that perfect pause before he says "Well..." and the shock of hearing that voice for the first time is goosebumps every single time.
If you liked Chris Stapleton’s stuff, he was in a bluegrass(a more classical type of country, that comes from the Appalachian mountains(it’s pronounced app-uh-latch-in, btw, every one else is wrong)) band called ‘The Steeldrivers’. The two best songs, IMO, are ‘Sticks That Made Thunder’ (a song about a Civil War battle from the perspective of a nearby tree) and ‘Can You Run’ (which is a song about a slave making a break for freedom in Union(the North’s) territory, the morning of a nearby battle). Both fantastic songs that show case different aspects of Chris’ voice, and “vibes” that might tickle your fancy. If those aren’t your fans, two other ones are ‘Ghost of Mississippi’ (an encounter with the Devil/Ghost of Mississippi) and ‘Where Rainbows Never Die’ (a story of an old man, about what it’s like to cross over into Heaven). These two song also showcase a different tone and emotion, and I struggle not to cry listening to ‘Where Rainbows Never Die’. Cheers, and happy listening!
Hi Yaz!!! I've seen several requests for Jason Isbell. I wholeheartedly agree. I would recommend Children of Children, great songwriting, great band. Great seeing you this morning. Gorgeous as always!! 👍🏻✌🏼💯
Honestly where I’m from lots of guys sing the blues mainly when we drink and it’s just a way to shed the stress. But love that you love country from London it’s not where you’re born but the way you live is what country is!
Love Coulter Wall. My son got me to listen to him about a year ago and now I have a lot of his songs on my playlist. I like Saskatchewan 1888. Great song. His music grows on you, I find myself singing his songs in my head..
John Moreland - you don't care for me enough to cry. Billy strings - dust in a baggie. Roger Allen wade - cars and guns. ( a great song about having a daughters). Benjamin Todd - saguaro's flower.
Hi Yaz! The title of the song is most appropriate given how people of power & willingness to abuse it, mostly look like. P.S. Still looking forward to your reaction to IGNEA.
Good Canadian boy right there ! Love Colter , I also love your comparison to Johnny Cash. I thought the exact same thing the first time my buddy showed him to me !
I came across your channel randomly i like seeing other cultures enjoy country music. Enjoy the country music an any other forms of music have a good day.
I love watching people react to Colter it never gets old! His voice is like a mix of John Wayne and Johnny Cash! Check out Kate Mccannon from the same brewery sessions or Bury me not on a lone prairie him sitting in an old truck singing away I don’t think I’ve seen a reaction of that 1!
This is awsome!!! I always love watching people's first reaction to Colter. He is probably the best story teller in country music today. Best voice in country. Keep doing more Colter reviews and you won't be sorry. Try "Kate McCannon" "Bob Fudge" "Fraulein" hes got sooooo many great songs.
This is why I like reaction videos, introducing me to new music and reminding me of stuff I liked and why I like a track. Your eyes are lovely and I love it that you (fucking) swear
His song "Kate Mccannon" probably my favorite song of his. Another good one is "cowpoke". You should also look up the artist The White Buffalo, his song "The Whistler"
Colter Wall is an incredible talent and genuine human being. He is a real cowboy working the range and writing music. Tremendous voice and great songwriting. I agree with others, Kate McCannon is a wonderful song of raw emotion. 13 Silver Dollars is another one.
Fella I worked with would play Colter's songs, I thought he was like 60 sumthin, when I told him "Glad that old country cat that's been around finally got discovered" he just laughed and said "Nah man, he's like in his early 20's dude" and showed me this vid, I was knocked off my horse haha
For your second country song, you picked a great one!!! Colter isn't mainstream at all, so he's not very well known, and most his videos have less than 100k views. This and Kate McKinnon are his two biggest hits. Super cool that you reviewed a dude like this. He is so talented.
I don't generally care for Country, but I thought I'd watch and like to support you. Turns out I really dug this song! He reminds me of Tom Waits a bit, which is a very good thing!
I don't think you will see it now, but I recommend: Townes Van Zandt - Waitin´ Around to Die, and No Place to Fall. Townes is a great folk/country musician with a tragic life story, he had bipolar disorder and suffered from drug addictions and alcoholism. He is very influential but was not very successful or well know. He was covered by many artists between them Bob Dylan and even Colter Wall. Waitin' Around to Die and No Place to Fall are two of my all time favorite songs, the first one is more tragic and the second one is a sad romantic ballad.

Hello from Texas, Yaz! Great job on the video. I am glad you enjoyed Colter Wall. He is one of my favorites. I thought of another artist that you might enjoy. His name is John Fullbright, and two of my favorite tunes by him are "All The Time In The World" and "Satan & St. Paul". He is another artist whose voice does not fit his look.
As a country boy from America who's lived in London for 5 years, yalls reactions to great country always made me smile. Get the F put of the city and go explore the Southern states. Not for ya to review but listen to "Fishing in the dark"
You should try a gentlemen who played in every dive in the world before he made it. He is country but he also has a soulful voice. His name is Chris Stapelton. You could watch a live performance of, I was wrong. Excellent.
First off, apologies for my last suggestion : Anaal Nathrakh. I thought "producer" as in music producer and I may have been being a bit troll-y. Do the song anyways, it'll be a reaction for sure... But I checked your website and you're a photographer, so Behemoth - Bartzebel. Even if you don't enjoy the song as much as you could, you'll be blown away by the cinematography in the music vid. Which is gorgeously made. Anyways, this tune was sweet. Cheers for a new thing to check out Also, come out to the country, we have trees. And on a clear night, starlight!
"The Devil Went Down to Georgia" is a classic song too, and it has been covered so many times... I'd suggest Nickelback's version, recently launched and surprisingly awesome! Primus and Korn versions are also good options
That was a nice change of pace, I Believe Nashville is in your Future (just sayin') Happy Belated Birthday, Happy Friday, Stay You, and Till Next Time : )
You got me thinking about Country Songs - Believe by Brooks and Dunn, sadish, but not depressing and The Dead South - In Hell I'll Be In Good Company which I think You'll just enjoy : )
I love seeing people’s face after hearing this dudes voice.

Check out his song Kate McCannon, from the same brewery sessions. it’s a murder ballad.
Yep! 100% This is a must. In fact I subscribed specifically in hopes of a Kate McCannon reaction next.
Kate McCannon and Motorcycle for sure.
I love Colter Wall, Bob Fudge and Fraulein are great tracks too.
Oh damn I've never in my life heard of a murder ballad
@@yazma2 Well what a perfect time to review Kate McCannon by Colter Wall.
I guess no one has said it yet but, he was 19 when this was recorded.
The Purple Orange whaaaaaat! That’s actually insane.

I first thought It was a kind of honouring crossroads, I am glad I was not far off. Good take

a lot of the riffs are Johnson inspired i think

The common joke about Colter Wall is if he ever took a Ricola, his career would be over.
Rob Reed darn I have no idea what Ricola is...
