    It's a murder ballad. He talks about that in several of his interviews. It's kind of a lost form of story telling. But very powerful.

      I cannot wait to get into more of Colter's stuff. I'm going to be heavily reviewing him throughout August. I think the thing is, with any country song there is an element of storytelling - but specifically with people like Colter and Tyler... They make it effortless.

    Southern country music has came back to my heart. I lost my ear for it in the early 2000s because it sounded too poppy or commercial, but these past five or six years we have had some great artists come about.

      I’ve been listening to country now for around three years and I’m still at the start of my journey. Colter Wall is an artist that just wouldn’t get promoted in the UK for whatever reason, I haven’t heard an artist like him. He’s unreal. I’m checking out another of his tracks this week.

  • @EchoSevenNine

    It's genuinely INSANE that Colter possesses this sort of song writing ability and musical dynamics at such a young age. I can't even comprehend what he'll be doing in his 40's.

  • @xtremelovin
    @xtremelovin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    When I first heard Colter it was through audio only. So, when my husband (who showed me his music) told me he was only 23, I was taken by surprise. I thought he was at least 60! He's not just talented or has a good voice. There is a soulful depth in his multidimensional voice quite reminiscent of Johnny Cash. I'm a die hard fan now, just like for Cash.
    Oh! And of course, the story telling (lyrics) in his songs combined with that voice, makes the songs instant masterpieces.

    Great reaction! I saw when it hit you both the story and the tempo. I had the biggest reaction coming home one day with music up high and it really highlighted how he orchestrated it to swell with intensity and make it sound like his heart beating out of his chest after his crime of passion. He is pretty brilliant with his artistry.

    I like that he just listens to the song and discusses the song after, 'cause most reaction videos they pause the song every five seconds and its really irritating, I'm just like "LISTEN TO THE SONG AND SHUT UP" but he made this video in a very satisfying way. Nice video man, keep up the great content!

  • @johnnyg632
    @johnnyg632 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I'm guessing by now you've listened to many other Colter Wall songs and have found what a great songwriter and storyteller he is. Talent like this that masters a genre so well only comes from an artist who is authentic. Colter is a real deal country boy. A prairie boy from the big sky country of western Canada. It's wonderful to have this level of authenticity and raw talent out there to counteract the manufactured crap the big labels are shoveling out for public consumption. Colter Wall, Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, bluegrass bands like the Steel Drivers and artist like Billy Strings may have saved purely American genres of music that seemed to have been lost to a bunch of genre-confused, bubblegum pop, white-boy hip hop, and boy-band crap trying to claim to be country music. A bunch of regurgitated, slap-track,, oversampled noise with a twangy voice thrown in there to woo the 16-22-year old suburban girls who's pretty little $500 cowboy boots have never stepped in anything dirtier than the sticky floor of the food-court at the mall.

    I'm just discovering him and it's so interesting to watch others have the experience.
    I think that the weird thing is that we don't normally hear songs with varied tempo and the amount of rise and fall. I personally love it and I'd appreciate mainstream music being more varied.

    Johnny Cash bung the king of them with “ boy named sue” , “ i hung my head” , “ the long black veil” , “cocaine blues”

    Still remember in 16, standing at the Nashville Palace to see Shooter, this dude cussed me for being in the way with a handful of food and beer. I grabbed him later that evening after the show and shook his hand and he asked, how the hell do you know who I am? Just told him I dig his music.
    Wild who you see in the crowd in Nashville.

    The power of a simple melody, and a story well told. Colter is the only thing of substance in country/western music at the moment. He will be a legend.

    I read a comment on another channel that speculates the 'I put three rounds into Kate McCannon" line implies that he killed the 'other lover' first. I kind-of had the same impression.
    With the extreme economy of words Coulter Wall uses in this song, every word serves a purpose, and the 'three rounds' reference is very specific and comes at the apex of the song.
    If he was 'working in the mines' as a casual this has to be a historical ballad and in the time period he likely would have been carrying a six-shooter revolver.
    That he killed the other guy apparently doesn't bother the conscience of the character telling the story, to the point he doesn't feel it's necessary to even mention it, only that he killed Kate, the love of his life, and that is the personal hell he has to live with.

    song should be included in music curricums tought at schools. The song covers several musical basics. The way he uses his instruments to pull you in, dictating the listeners feeling,almost like adding a second singer.
    Colter Walls voice alone stops your heart.
    Not one bad thing about this video or the song. Everything in sync and all contributing the story.

    That was a great reaction. Although you said you were caught up in Colter’s vocals, your comments about the Raven being the “dark side” of the inmate showed that you truly got into the lyrics and story of the song. Well done sir.
    If you are looking for a Colter Wall song that has great story telling depth Do a reaction or listen to his Bald Butte Here is a link of Colter’s live performance of Bald Butte. th-cam.com/video/0FyXOxikGO8/w-d-xo.html. Again thanks for your reaction.

      The 94 Club Your reaction of Kate Mc was of Wall when he was around 19. The link I sent you (above) is a few years later ... so you will see some progression. “Bald Butte” is a great story. I won’t say more, so as to not mess with your “reaction” but the song IMO is historically accurate
