What a great video showing the work in the “Kidd Cave.” I always enjoy seeing the shop work at a museum. The lesson on illuminating the dials, and the operation of a carbon arc were excellent!

Mr. Nate Bergeron, WE SALUTE YOU for your vast knowledge and your wonderful dedication to knowing, restoring and preserving the past !! May this long continue, with you and your students!
For instance, we have already lost the method originally used to cut lettering and dials into the aluminum for the directors. Perhaps you need to write a book or even better make a descriptive audio book (much along the lines of this video) for posterity. All of this goes waaaaay beyond any Fletcher Class destroyer !! THANK YOU AGAIN SIR !!!!

Wow, its unbelievable the amount of mechanical complexity in these things. I'm not all that surprised to see this in a director but I had no idea a search light would have such a complex gearbox and means for the electrical connections. These ship must have cost a fortune to build. It's so sad to think that these things were just smashed up and scrapped along with everything else when the navy was done with them.

@@b.snoodleman5864: Price tag was reportedly $13 million for a Fletcher-class destroyer during WWII. Each.

Quill? On the spot lights? We used to call those slip rings on DDG-21.
