Because any BIOS from the last 20 years will allow you to plug in a USB keyboard and press F1....
@@Kundalini12 still makes me chuckle
@@Kundalini12 You, and many others, are missing the point.
Back in the days of the original IBM PC and its successors, there was no such thing as USB. I do remember serial keyboards *the original PC, XT and some early AT models) where one could actually disconnect the faulty keyboard, connect the good one and press F1 to continue. Of course, with the advent of PS/2 keyboards this no longer was an option (disconnecting and reconnecting a keyboard or a mouse on live early PC systems was a big no-no) but at the same time no one gave a flying fvck to change that specific error message.
SirFoggy which is why I said “from the last 20 years” 🙄
how ironic
I thought this was gonna be some ultra overkill PC with the absolute most powerful parts that work on XP, but tbh I like the PC that actually was in the video better.
I just came back from watching LGR's XP build. What timing.

In germany vauxhall is rebranded as "opel" and probably in the us "saturn" or whatever, and also "holden" exists

Fun fact, Crysis and Half Life 2 both work in Windows 9x.
Lmao what. Ik half life 2 had some wierd support for 9x but crysis ran?
jackedup447 yes. Its dumb but t can. Even says so on my disc copies. Only 98SE and ME though. It’s not ideal lol. Both games perform even worse.
jam just take my HD 2600 already
@@classic_jam They've been working on that engine for quite some time, that could be why.
Half LIfe 2 I knew about, Crysis sounds like they just made an error on the box, adding 98/ME/2000. Especially since it has brackets for the RAM/CPU for Vista(as opposed to XP) I've never seen Crysis running on Windows 98.

Will be touching on this in my next video 👍

PS: GREAT VIDEO AGAIN
Woah! I didn’t even noticed, I’ve been with him for a long while now
Your channel is the only tech one where I watch the same videos several times. Very entertaining with some great hints and tips. Love the "power supply junk pile" bit lol
Wonder if theres anything you could do with them, take them apart and sell them parts? Might make your quid back 🤣 x
@@WesleyF1993 Good question. I think a lot of us found our old pcs and want to get them working again (see mine from 2005).
WHAT. I literally just rescued my mom's 530 last weekend that she used since 2009 and put a GT710 in it the other day. I had to replace the power supply once, but other than that, it's been a tank and it was very clean. What a coincidence to see it on here. Did the one you picked up have a Core 2 Quad Q6600 (the original CPU that had to be discarded)? My mom's did and it still works great with a lot of tasks in Windows 10. And I just played some Streets of Rage 4 on it. I have it plugged into a nice 32" 480p CRT TV and am using it for retro things. Love the channel! Take care!
I have one of the Inspiron 530 (I liked the look of the Case for a Retro PC) with C2Q6600, I wanted to put my C2Q9650 & GA-G33M-S2 in it but it doesn't have a changeable I/O shield 😖 it's punched out of the case frame to suit the Dell M/B
@Jimmy S Yeah, I have thought about that But... I shake similar to Parkinson's disease due to a head injury that has affected my Nervous System, so cutting a straight line is a bit of a worry, let alone waving a Dremel around Willy Nilly 😁
I've owned a 530 since 2008, when it I bought it new for £399 from Tesco in Stockport.
Mine came with a Q6600 but was recently upgraded to a Q9400. It has been my main desktop until this year and still runs XP, for legacy games and my video capture card.
It did, of course, come with Vista, so had to be "upgraded" to XP. Long ago, I upgraded the graphics to an X1650, which work nicely for an of the old games that I have.
As a legacy system, the Dell Inspiron 530 motherboard is ideal because it has drive connectors for floppy, IDE and SATA discs.
A few years ago, I also acquired a 2009 vintage Inspiron 545. The latter doesn't give me the option of easily installing a floppy drive, but is now working nicely with Windows 10.
See, it's great to have content like this during a world wide pandemic. Very nice. Keep it up my dude!
i wouldnt mind seeing a group make a winxp great again and get all the updates w modern hardware :) Now that i wouldn't mind :)
That model was my first computer, I don’t remember the specs but I do remember upgrading from xp to windows 8 and it booted 8 once and bricked.
Same but mine still works and has 8.1
Same but it still works and runs XP. Although it came with Vista.
Despite having no control or OC option i love the OEM PCs because they offer you reliability.
Perfect video and perfect PC for other old hardware to throw in.
Yeah no kidding. I still have old Optiplex GX280 components kicking around here and they all still work (even after I absolutely shorted the fuck out of my GTX 10GODDAMN60 when I had it in that system
those dell motherboards from the inspiron 530 and 531 commonly have that orange light issue it usually just fixes when you power cycle it (only time ive ever seen unplugging and holding the power button ever doing something)
So you’re telling me I threw out my Dell Optiplex 780 USFF because I didn’t try that solution?
@@shadowthefurryscientist So you're telling me you threw out a PC?
@@shadowthefurryscientistmine did the same but I kept mine
My old XP PC is still my day to day computer.
I built a new Windows 10 PC recently but its not being used a lot ... yet, my transition is going to be slow as I move over.

I have very fond memories of getting my first XP computer running with a 300Mhz slot 1 Celeron and 64mb of ram. Those visualizations in windows media player at 2 fps was awesome :) Ah memories

I thought I just opened TH-cam with a internet explorer when i saw this video
Brings back so many memories. I had a Dell Inspiron 530S (S meaning SLIM) in my early teen years. Got it from Walmart for god knows how much and it had a Core 2 Duo, 2GB of RAM and a Radeon HD 2400 Pro (I think) for a graphics card, complete with the latest and greatest NVIDIA drivers for all of my blue screen needs. The heat spreader on the card itself eventually tore itself off of the card. A lot of beautiful memories with that beast like 13 years ago.
A classic Budget Builds video! :D Do like this kind of trial and error type of builds. With finds like this you never totally sure what you're going to get and that's part of the fun. I used to have a Vostro 410 with a Core 2 Quad and really like how solid of a platform these desktops are to work on and they they're quite a sleek design generally speaking.
This might be your best video so far, I really like it.
Just a tip, but FM2 platform is also very suitable for XP.
I'm using an fm2 a6-6400k dual core for windows 10 :(
I installed XP on my FM2+ system, not bad, I have 8GB RAM installed even though the 32 bit copy of XP I have can only see about 4GB, but it runs great.
The reasons stated in this video are most of why I want to make a new WinXP system. My personal number 1 reason is that there are several games that either don't like to or can't run on OS's past XP.
Love these videos, even though I'm not the kind of person to build these things often, it's always fun watching how old you can go with hardware and still have lots of fun!
My friend gave me a dual xeon XP machine that honestly works really well in any version of Windows which is nice
woah, is that with the skulltrail motherboard?
@@n0rie9a I remember drooling over those and setting up so many newegg wishlists with that board.
@@RR2BOX46 yeah me too, then after many years that mobo gave meaning to "never meet your heroes" kekw
18:27 Watching you play around with Movie Maker and Windows Media Player literally gave me chills, so much nostalgia! Thanks for the video.
Crikey I feel old, I remember when I had a PC with similar specs to this in my youth which was the dogs dangley parts in its day...
So i was watching your videos on my phone and i decided i was gonna get a desktop but i was also gonna get it for really cheap. So i went down to my local tip and got 2 slightly older desktops. One of them had broken dimm slots and a broken processor. It still had 8gb of ddr3 ram which i took from it and a gtx 560ti, which i took from it too. I put said components into the other pc,a Dell Precision T3500 Workstation, and now i have my desktop that can run some modern titles and is great for general usage. The exact specs are a GTX 560Ti, 12gb of DDR3 ram (i have no idea what speed), Intel Xeon E5640 and 2 500gb hdds both at 7200rpm and one of the dell psus that come with the precision. I got all of the parts for the pc for less than $5 and you are the reason i have built up this pc. Thank you very much.
Loved the inclusion of the Astra 🙏 Much love from Lord Bosnia of Bosnia

Astra is a nice car :D Me and my brother had a Opel Astra F 1997 for several years, first we had Opel astra F 1992/1993 GLE, and then the 1997 but its a TurboDiesel and that engine was known to be good one with the isuzu part :) they both Rusted quickly but its west Norway and old cars so cant complain hehe :)

Although i have never played Simcity 3000, those are one amazing jazz tunes. Thank you for the music and the content, which was always of great quality.
i have a lot of optiplexes probably like 8 and often i find that they like to randomly use the igpu only and it takes multiple attempts at taking out the cmos and putting it back in before they finnally play ball
Ok
A bit late here, but I owned the slim model of this computer back in the day (530s). Needless to say, they weren’t very expandable and all help articles were for the non-slim model. I wasn’t very good with PCs then, but this was a great refresher on what my PC could’ve been. Thanks!
Great build. Great video. Glad that I'm not the only one who loved Windows XP as an operating system.
I still have a couple of older XP based laptops that do the job with no issues. Eventually I might build a desktop like this.
And Vista seemed like the idea OS to dual boot with (I much prefer Windows 7, which was much better) because the OEM license was for Vista...
LOVE XP. I have a P5K with a quad core, 4GB, Radeon x1900s in Crossfire on a 128GB SSD. XP lives on... I am still using 7 and if it dies out like XP, then its time for Linux.
Your use of the word overkill, was overkill. Loved it.
When I worked in IT support I must have touched a 1,000 Dell Inspiron 5xx computers. The second your trunk opened and I saw it sitting there a million memories came flooding back. Wow.
A couple months ago, I actually found a Dell Dimension 530 fully working. Just upgraded the ram to 6gb and the cpu to a Core2Duo 3.16ghz. Works like a charm with both Windows 10 and Linux Mint. It seems that there are two versions of motherboards for the 530, one that only takes dualcore/core2duo cpus, and one that works with quadcore cpu.
bruh I didn't expect these video series would be so much entertaining
My main computer is still an XP build I made back in 2005. It's starting to get old because some websites don't work good with it, so I'll probably need to upgrade soon, but I still think XP was the best!
I had a 530 until last summer haha. I got it out of a WEEE skip at work and asides from a broken power button, it worked fine. I put Debian on it and ran a Minecraft server for some friends, but as more joined I had to upgrade. Great video, love this era of hardware.
Those are nice rigs for an OEM, I have the 531 AMD version. I ended up building a vista pc (not the 531) for my older games, no problems whatsoever. AMD 64 x2 6000+ , Radeon HD 3870x2 . I have been enjoying the hell out of it!
Sticking the case on the shed roof to dry - never grows old 😂😂
I've had similiar PC around 5-7 years ago, but with 6600GT. It was good for basic computer and older games.
The background music sounds like something I’d hear at Olive garden
Them Unreal music gets me fired up every time!
Luv this channel it actually fixes computers and enjoys them and doesent try to scalp/ sell for high prices on ebay
I used an Inspiron 530 with a Q6600 until last month on Windows 10, still a decent PC even today
The marvellous steed which is the Vauxhall Astra G makes a triumphant return here! Little things like that in addition to quality content make this channel really worth watching! :)
SimCity 3000 sound track
Haha I got that model in the trunk of my car right now, will make a video about it this week as well, mine is going to be a donation. Nice to have a preview of what is going to happen
Love the tunes you have on! Oasis bootlegs are awesome :)
Hey, I've got one of these! I too installed XP on it. I ordered the fastest CPU the motherboard could support, a Core 2 Duo E8600 at 3.33GHz. It is blazing fast for XP, and on a HDD XP on that Dell Inspiron actually boots up as fast as Windows 7 on an SSD in my custom built system. I love it to just play around with, it's a huge rush of nostalgia.
I still have my old Dell XPS 420 with a Q9400. I'd love to have it running as a server the only issue is space and a lack of spare storage devices. Maybe when SATA SSDs get super-duper cheap I can boot it again.
@Jimmy S I live in the UK. 120GB SSDs are about £40. Actually more vitally it is missing a power supply which are unfortunately quite pricy right now.
You can still play Solitaire on the screen without drivers ;)
I'd probably install some form of Linux rather than Windows. Only benefit of Windows is PC Game support and I have my main rig for that.
I'd much rather have my pc come with Space Cadet Pinball ,than it coming with Candy Crush and Plants vs Zombies
I've got 3 pc's with windows xp on them. I can't give it up completely for the same reasons you can't.
Finally! This is the content I love! Keep it coming BudgetBuilds!!
Took me well into Windows 7's life cycle to upgrade from XP
I got my first computer in 2017, wayy after XP ended support. Upgraded to 7 early 2020... yeah... I later bought myself and made my current PC which is pretty good for gaming.
@@pawer_organos XP was hands down one of the best OS Microsoft ever made
Those caputure cards, like the one you showed in the video, runs fine on linux too.
I have to say that I love just using cheap old computers like the on you showed, to throw inside of them all the hardware i want and have it working, it's just satisfying to have a cheap featurecreep mess that works.
Linux still lacks all the features of XP for this capture card unfortunately.
FSP makes some great stuff indeed, still have an Aopen PSU from 2004 with FSP as OEM, everything looks brand new and it has worked hard for many years.
For new stuff I'd stick to Seasonic tho.

To give you an idea of how bad the MGS2 port is, someone on the dev team thought it would be an excellent idea to have the escape key full on kill the process rather than just bring up a pause menu.
to be fair thats kinda the whole idea of the esc key but by 2002 or whenever the port came out, it was super out dated to function that.
iirc, even some modern titles like cave story or undertale used that and i was baffled that even devs would use that

That Core 2 Duo would work alright in a modern PC, I used one up until April of 2020 just fine. Of course, with a rather modern graphics card to try and make up for the CPU.
I actually created a similar computer for my personal Minecraft server, just with the E7200 instead, no graphics card, and I installed ubuntu 18.04 LTS.
Wow, I want that case... Good looking for a sleeper PC :D

Believe it or not, my main laptop is still running Windows 7, though it's only a matter of time before it is upgraded to a different machine. Also, the machine I will replace it with, has both Windows 7 and 10 installed in dual boot.
Absolutely loved this video from start to finish, even though I'm not a gamer I might just copy everything you did and even have a go at some games, and Yes Windows XP. I still love it too. Thanks.
Another cool thing a lot of Dell PCs do is have four progress LEDs for the Power On Self Test, making it easy to diagnose boot problems.
You're the best, I totally agree with the whole having an XP system for those games and software you can't run on the current crappy Windows 10 systems.
I am just like you, I miss XP, and a Vurtual Machine isn't anywhere near as good.
I've spent countless hours trying to run one specific game on Windows 10 and only got as far as a loading screen then the game would crash to desktop closing the game.
Then, with a lot of trying to install XP on my laptop, (I did get Windows 7 on there but it wasn't the same, and went back to Ubuntu) I discovered my old PC parts, that just so happend to be a Mobo, CPU & RAM, could actually run Windows XP, the mobo's drivers page includes XP drivers. Looking that up was actually a last attempt and wasn't expecting anything of it. I then dug out my old tiny case, that I was using for parts for something else, it has a 120Ghz PSU in it, tiny little thing. I set it all up, booted an XP disc and away I went. Now nothing can stop me enjoying Windows XP again. Thought, I do pray it doesn't randomly kill over now.
Windows 10 can suck it, XP for life!
