I got to see Wizz in the mid 1970's in Glasgow City halls. As the support act he was actually sitting about six seats along from me in the audience. He got out his seat, walked to the stage and tuned his guitar, it looked like an old beat up Gibson acoustic, with a pair of pliers because some of the machine heads had no buttons. It was a great evening.
This song becomes so much more poignant when you realize the song is about him singing about the love he had when young and the yearning for her now that death has taken his lifes love away... hence the happiness was free.
Thought you all might like to know Wizz is appearing Friday Sept 3rd as part of the wonderful line-up at The Southwell Festival, Notts. www.gtfs.uk/wizzjones
I've been listening to this song for a few years now after seeing a clip of Billy Connolly , he mentioned this track and blues run the game by someone equally amazing,,, I can't believe I've forgotten his name 🤣
I love this tune, from the UKs most underrated artist. Had the honour to support him twice, once in London once in Somerset.
Overlooked. Not underated. There is a difference.
The more I listen to Wizz, the more I appreciate his skill at playing the instrument, but also his great voice.
